For i8nstance, if Al Jazeera claims that violence has broken out in ‘several’ towns of J & K, then the factoids need to be put forth by the GoI, i.e. violence is limited to only 3 towns in the Kashmir Valley.

To JOYDEEP GHOSH: 1) That bis already well unbderway. Range can always be increased by increasing the length of the cruise missile. Nirbhay will carry both nuclear warheads & conventional HE/blast-fragmentation warheads. Russia’s marketing tactics are the most predictable in the world: all that they always do is quote 20% cheaper than what Western OEMs do. Who said the MAWS sensor is locally developed? Only the integrated EW architecture is locally developed. The MAWS sensor is the MILDS, which was originally developed by South Africa’s AVITRONICS (which is already installed on the RMAF Su-30MKMs) & then AVITRONICS was bought over by Saab Tech of Sweden & later there was a JV between SaabTech & Cassidian of Germany. So the RWRs, MAWS & laser warners from SaabTech on the Rudra, LCH & LUH are all from SaabTech, while the Dhruti is indigenously developed by DARE. If you see the Boeing-released images of the IAF’s AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, you will easily see the SaabTech-supplied MAWS sensor in the airframe.

To SUJIT: It is called the Special Frontier Force & it has a Special Operations Group for special military operations inside hostile territory & it is HQed in Chakrata & is led by an IA Brigadier. It was set up in 1963 with US funbding & assistance & it was then manned by fleeing able-bodied Tibetan refugees but nowadays only Ladakhis & other Indians make up the force.

To ASHISH GAUTAM: How? It again is a matter of gaining experience when working on the field & attending lots of aerospace/military exhibitions & seminars. I started doiung this rather early in my life, so I guess the Gods of Yore have so far been kind to me. And do read this about military turbofans:

http://forceindia.net/feature-report/way-behind/Prasun K. And here’s another technological novelty:

https://www.engadget.com/2018/08/21/mit-wireless-water-air-communication/?yptr=yahoo

The Dhruti RWR is already flying on the EMB-145I ‘Netra’ AEW & CS platforms. The MAWS from Avitronics/SaabTech has been flying on the RMAF’s Su-30MKMs since the previous decade. Of course all early-warning sensors are installed in such a way in a distributed manner that 360-degree coverage is available. Each sensor of each type covers 1 of 4 quadrants of the hemisphere. IPR for laser warner & MAWS is not owned by Israel, but by SaabTech. Dhruti RWR’s IPR is owned by DRDO.

To MANU SINGH: 1) The similarity is in terms of airframe construction technologies employed for both aircraft, i.e. old-style riveting instead of machined sub-structures & that’s what causes the Su-57 to lose out on low-observability. While the F/A-22 used metallic machined parts & honbeycomb structures, the F-35 uses greater quyantum of machined honeycomb & composites-based sub-structures of the type now being attempted for the LCA-AF Mk.2. 2) Compared to the AS.555 Pamther, the ALH has inferior endurance. That’s why in my view, HAL in the previous decade itself should have undertaken the development of a stretched fuselkage 7.5-tonne version of the ALH that would also have adopted a new-design rotor-head with folding main rotor-blades & a folding tail-rotor section. It could easily have partnered with AgustaWestland Helicopters for technological assistance & in return AgustaWestland could have benefitted from contracts for upgrading the IN’s 17 Sea King Mk.42Bs, six Sea King Mk.42Cs & six UH-6H shipborne 12-tonne NMRHs.And compared to the 5.5-tonne ALH, the 7.5-tonne version of the ALH would also have been ordered by the ICGS as well as by ONBGC & several other private-sector operators interested in using such helicopters for emergency medical services provision.

To KANE: Maldives is already feeling the heat from a reduction of perishable commodity supplies from India, & it is therefore inevitable that Male will eventually have to make peace with India. Similarly, Sri Lanka is being kept on a very tight leash by both the US & UK and therefore Colombo cannot take over the role of supplying perishable commodities to Male. Hence, no India-based whackos & psychos like the one you’ve mentioned are reqd to do anything.Prasun K. I keep hearing from HAL people that only the shaping is stealthlike but inside it's all the same. Even a while ago, Russians were offering similar upgrades i dont know to what extent. If that's true, is it possible to upgrade Su30s into a stealthlike one with i30 engines, better radars and improved shaping ??

2. If AS 555 panther or similar other helos can be considered for NLUH tender, then what is stopping Indian Navy from acquiring Dhruv/Rudra for this purpose? The blade folding issue has already been resolved, and it has immense upgrade possibility. Most important, it can also be produced in PPP or SP model of production so even the logistics will be far more simpler than having six types of helos and crazy united states of spare parts.

What is your reading on these ?
Manu Singhnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-91811754213346734082018-08-27T07:32:02.014+05:302018-08-27T07:32:02.014+05:30Is there any submarine IFF deployed by navies arou...Is there any submarine IFF deployed by navies around the world....I mean how do SONAR operators on board helicopters/MPA/SUBMARINES/SHIPS distinguish between hostile and friendly submarinesAMIT BISWAShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12124952845688810260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-72875344919665298462018-08-27T06:16:10.110+05:302018-08-27T06:16:10.110+05:30To RAD & AMIT BISWAS: The imported SR-SAMs wil...To RAD & AMIT BISWAS: The imported SR-SAMs will be new-build Barak-1s to replace those bought 20 years ago, although I would prefer to procure a shorter-range version of Barak-8. After all, if there is a Barak-8 LR-SAM & Barak-8 MR-SAM, then why not an SR-SAM variant as well? The Astra’s VL-version is still under development & so it won’t be on-time. As for twin-engined LUHs, my personal choice would be a stretched 7.5-tonne version of the ALH that can well be developed in-house by HAL. No foreign OEM will help co-develop it because none of them want a new OEM emerging from India to give them competition. But you are already seeing some ‘desi’ patrakaars who have been taken to foreign junkets by the likes of Airbus Military, they’re now obliquely showing images of the AS.555 Panther! There’s also the issue of ASMs for the NMRH & LUHs, for which Kongsberg of Norway (the HSM) & MBDA (Marte Mk.2-ER) are the frontrunners. As for the 10-tonne helicopters, the designation MH-60 is US-specific, i.e. it applkies to only those machines that are acquired by the USN or USCGS. The export designation is always either the S-60B or S-70B. Ka-226T either for the IA or IAF or IN is history, it will NEVER happen. The LUH reqmt is to be broken into 2 parts: single-engined & twin-enbgined. In my view, both of these can be supplied by HAL.

To SUJIT: How? Lots of reading, lots of research & lots of meetings with the right people at the right place at the right time. There are no short-cuts.

To SUMANTA NAG: Looks like Pakistan is feeling the pinch of India’s worldwide covert operations concerning Gilgit-Baltistan. Now, question is that whether Iran really deploys such types of launcher, and if affirmative, what are its vulnerability.

Thanks in advance.

সুমন্ত নাগhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04909713964058337434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-88780188975250637422018-08-26T20:27:35.631+05:302018-08-26T20:27:35.631+05:30Thanks Prasunda for answering my queryThanks Prasunda for answering my queryAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01410153017620652610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-66733494077310835322018-08-26T19:29:35.052+05:302018-08-26T19:29:35.052+05:30Submarine-hunting copters for Navy and new guns fo...Submarine-hunting copters for Navy and new guns for Army | Tribune India - https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/nation/submarine-hunting-copters-for-navy-and-new-guns-for-army/642689.html

As per this report NMRH is G-2-G deal with LM as contractor whereas NUH is SP model procurement....exactly what u said....

But don't u think better option would be HAL/ pvt sector ties up with any western manufacturer for a medium lift MRH for a base line version and modifying the same as per IAF/ARMY/NAVY needs....then across the service same platform will ensure savings on spare, consummables, logistics and training....or I am missing sonethingAMIT BISWAShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12124952845688810260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-53735025545543237172018-08-26T12:56:57.317+05:302018-08-26T12:56:57.317+05:30Thnkuu very much prasun sir, you have cleared all ...Thnkuu very much prasun sir, you have cleared all of my queries for now..eagerly waiting for your next article..just one question though..how u hv so much information and knowledge of defence matters?? Is this an indirect way to bring in the ka-226? w which is doubtful due to sanctions. again why is the agreement being signed in spite of knowing franc e will not supply engines to russia? is there any issue with the luh and when is the FOC planned .

which is better, the sea hawk B or R? do they come with L3 extra vlf freq sonar?
all this will definitely have an impact on the warship hardware as american systems have to come on board to receive signals form the helis etc and i n that case will have to sign the agreement ? I believe than the warships , helis and p-8 anti sub ac will be all data linked?
radnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3545138702780178046.post-769426779330390532018-08-26T04:23:09.882+05:302018-08-26T04:23:09.882+05:30To ENIGMA: LoLz! Within 24 hours of my explanation of the delusional mindsets of those residing in Lutyens’ Delhi, it was all in glaring display yesterday here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPjEnrI6xjY&t=2s

The only panelist who was making sense was Dr Ajai Sahni. Everyone else was going off in wild tangents beyond the yonder! And thoroughly exposed yet again was MSA, who was selective in his recollections & was economical with the truth. All that they had to do was recollect what Dr Hussain Haqqani had revealed earlier this year at the Hudson Institute about his conversation with the PA’s COAS Gen Kayani in mid-2008 about Musharraf’s much-touted 4-Point Formula. When Dr Haqqani had then asked when & how to implement the Formula, Gen Kayani retorted by saying: “What 4-Point Formula? All those were illegal decisions made by Musharraf.” And since NO ONE in India seems to understand this & what was so illegal about it, kindly let me explain:

Under any of Pakistan’s Constitutions, one person cannot be Army COAS & President at the same time. And that’s because it is the President that is required to give his written accent to either the appointment of the PA’s COAS or an extention to that post. So since Musharraf was both President & COAS, he was never able to approve his own appointment as COAS beyond the 3-year tenure that was approved by President Rafique Ahmed Tarrar in 1998. And in October 1999 that same President had in writing sacked Musharraf & had appointed Ziauddin Butt as the PA’s new COAS. So at best Musharraf could have remained as President of Pakistan by amending the Constitutional provisions, but he could never remain as COAS beyond October 1999. That’s why Ayub Khan upon becoming the President in the late 1950s became a Field Marshal & he in turn appointed Gen Mohd Musa (the only Shia to date to have become the Army Chief of Pakistan) as the COAS. And that’s why Gen Kayani had in 2008 as the PA’s COAS had explained to the then new PPP-led civilian govt that since Musharraf had remained as Army Chief from October 1999 till mid-2008 in contravension of all laws of Pakistan, consequently all decisions taken by Musharraf were also deemed to be null & void. And that’s why the so-called 4-Point Formula too was rejected by all Pakistani political parties as being illegal & null-n-void. Now, it is only the DELUSIONAL MORONS of India (like MSA, A S Dulat etc etc) who are unaware of all such finer legal details of Pakistan who continue to weave around themselves a world of make-belief & spread such falsehoods worldwide through various TV channels. In fact, since 2011 a former PA Colonel who is also a lawyer has been arguing a case at Islamabad Sessions Court about declaring Musharraf a violator of not only Pakistan’s Constitution, but also of the PA’s own internal Rule Book.

The only way the noose will tighten around Pakistan’s neck is through the economic strangulation of China, which is nbow well underway. Once China is demonstrated as being a toothless tiger, that will be the time the sledgehammer will come crashing over Pakistan, just like it has been the case against Iran & Turkey.Prasun K.
