The Indian Army (IA) on April
10, 2020 carried out its fifth punitive, targetted medium field artillery
fire-assault (between last October and to date) against Pakistan Army (PA) field
artillery and related administrative firm bases located across the LoC at Dudhnial
in the Neelum Valley (34 41 58.21 N, 74 09 25.31 E) of the Keran sector.
This
fire-assault was to avenge the deaths of five 4 Para-SF soldiers of the IA who
were involved in an extremely close-quarter combat (under OP Rangduri Behak) with
five heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists (who also were killed in the process)
in the Keran sector on April 7. IA HQ, along with Lt Gen Yogesh Kumar Joshi General
Officer-Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of HQ Northern Command and Lt Gen B
S Raju, GOC of the XV ‘Chinar’ Corps, had taken a very serious note of such
losses suffered by the IA and thereafter it was decided to commence in a calibrated
escalation of fire-assaults involving the usage of the newly-inducted M-777
ultralightweight 155mm/39-cal field howitzers and M982 Excalibur GPS-guided
155mm projectiles.

The IA conducted its first targetted
medium field artillery fire-assault with the M-777/M982 Excalibur combination on
October 20, 2019 in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district along the LoC by
pounding areas in Pakistan’s Nauseri sector of Muzaffarabad district and its
adjoining Jura sector in the Neelum Valley. While four terrorist launch-pads in
the Neelum Valley were hit, launch-pads in Jura, Athamuqam and Kundalshahi were
also decimated in the fire-assaults in the wee hours.

This was followed by
another similar fire-assault on December 4 in which four terrorist launch-pads
were destroyed at Athmuqam in the neelum valley. The third fire-assault
was carried out on December 26, 2019 in the Uri/Haji Pir sector to retaliate
against the PA’s shelling of Baramulla’s Uri and Bandipora’s Gurez sectors in
Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory. The fourth fire-assault took place in the
Tangdhar and Poonch sectors on February 24 and 25, 2020.

The PA, however, is unlikely
to cease its infiltration attempts anytime soon, since the bulk of its manpower
deployments within PoK comprise irregular combatants. Pakistan’s ground forces deployment
in what it calls AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan (together making up PoK) is 150,000
troops, but of this, only 22% belong to the PA and these comprise personnel
serving with the Northern Light Infantry (NLI), plus other Regiments hailing from Pakistan's Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
The bulk of the combatants
include the 60,000-strong Mujahid Force and the 40,000-strong Jaanbaaz Force that are not officially part
of the PA’s ORBAT, but they nevertheless come under the command of the PA’s
Rawalpindi HQed X Corps. Both the Mujahid Force and
the Jaanbaaz Force exist as irregular combatants and owe
allegiance to the ‘Azad Kashmir Regiment’, which has 32 Infantry
Battalions distributed among 8 Brigades.
The 1 AK Brigade is
located in Muzaffarabad, the 2 AK Brigade in Rawalakot, the 3 AK Brigade
in Kotli (has an area of responsibility located opposite to the Rajouri,
Poonch, Naushera and Sunderbani sectors), the 4 AK Brigade in Bandli, the
5 AK Brigade in Dhani, the 6 AK Brigade in Bagh, the 7 AK Brigade in Bhimber,
and the 32 AK Brigade in Kel. The Mujahid Force comprises the 640, 641,
647, 652, 654, 655, 815, 834, 841, and 886 Battalions of the Pakistan Army. The
656 Battalion is the Mujahid Force Training Centre at Bhimber.
The
Gilgit-based HQ Force Commander Gilgit-Baltistan (FCGB) has under its command four Infantry
Brigades—32 AK in Kel, 62 in Skardu, 80 in Minimarg, and 323 at Dansum. Back in
1999, the NLI had comprised of 14 Battalions (from 1 to 14). Since then, three
more Battalions--15, 16 and 17 NLI—were raised. Of these, the 3, 4, 5 and 7 Battalions
took part in the intrusions across the Batalik-Chorbat La-Turtuk sectors back
in 1999. Elements of the 12 NLI occupied Tiger Hill and the Mushkoh Valley,
while the 6 and 11 NLI were spread across the Drass-Tololing-Kaksar sectors. A
1993 study of the PA had showed the recruitment to the NLI from Gilgit to be at
55%, from Baltistan 35% and from other regions 10%. The
ethnic composition of the NLI Battalions shows that they consist of 18% Sunnis,
49% Shias, 23% are Ismailees and 10% are Noor Bakshis.
If
punitive, targetted fire-assaults of a sustained nature are to be mounted as a
counter-artillery bombardment measure (meaning, the destruction of the enemy’s field
artillery assets), then the emerging, predominant trend worldwide is in favour
of using not tube artillery operating from static gunpits, but rocket
artillery, especially quick-reaction surface-to-surface battlefield support
missiles (SS-BSM). Presently, apart from the Lockheed
Martin-built MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATacMS), such SS-BSM
families have been developed only by China and the Republic of Korea (South
Korea).
The Lockheed Martin-built 610mm MGM-140
Army Tactical Missile System (ATacMS) weighs 1,670kg (3,690lb), is 13 feet
(3.96 metres) high, has a diameter of 24 inches (2 feet, or 610mm), finspan of
1.4 metres, and has a weapons payload of either 560kg (1,240lb) or a 227kg
(500lb) unitary warhead. Service ceiling is 50km, while the range is up to
300km. The powerplant is an Atlantic Research-built 40,000lb (18,144kg) static
thrust solid-propellant rocket. Inertial guidance is provided by a Honeywell
H700-3A ring-laser gyroscope coupled to a GPS receiver using secure,
high-accuracy PY-code navigational updates from the US’ Navstar constellation
of GPS satellites. When an ATacMS comes down, the warhead is descending from as
high as 50km, and moving in excess of Mach 3. The M74 warhead dispenses either
950 M74 spherical shaped-fragmenting bomblets, or M42
anti-personnel/anti-materiel (APAM) sub-munitions that are cast forward at a
45-degree angle over the target area, producing a 33,000 square-metre (360,000
square feet) footprint. Another type of sensor-fuzed munitions (SFM), once
dispensed, glide to their pre-programmed target area, and each selects a target
within its assigned acoustic segment of the formation. Once a target has been
acquired by the terminal infra-red seeker, the weapon guides to terminal impact
and uses a tandem shaped-charge warhead to destroy the selected armoured
vehicle. Effectively, 18 ATacMS equals the impact of 792 155mm artillery
rounds. ATacMS’ launch can be as much as 30 degrees off axis, and the missile
is steered aerodynamically by electrically-actuated control-fins during the
descent phase, modifying the flight path from a ballistic parabola. Offsetting
the launch angle and descending semi-ballistically complicates the enemy’s
ability to trace trajectory back to the launch vehicle. Back in January 1991
during OP Desert Storm, 32 such missiles were fired from the M-270 MLRS, while 450
were fired during OP Iraqi Freedom. In 2002, South Korea’s RoK
Army purchased 111 ATACMS Block I and 110 ATACMS Block IA missiles, which
were deployed in 2004. An affiliated company of the Hanwha Group license-produced
the munitions for the missiles.
NORINCO of China’s complete AR-3 MBRL weighs 45
tonnes and has a cruising range of 650km on roads. It can be fitted with two
pods each of four 370mm rockets, or two pods each of five 300mm rockets. These
can be a mix of guided and unguided rockets. There are at least three types of
300mm unguided rockets: BRC3 with a maximum range of 70km and fitted with a
cargo warhead; BRC4 with a maximum range of 130km and a cargo warhead; and BRE2
with a maximum range of 130km and fitted with a high-explosive warhead. The
BRE3 (or FD-140A) is a 300mm guided rocket with a maximum range of 130km. There
are two 370mm guided rocket options, the BRE6 (FD-220) with a maximum range of
220km and the BRE8 (FD-280), offering a maximum range of 280km. A 30-metre CEP
is claimed for these weapons.
The FD in the designation means ‘Fire Dragon’.
This family of SS-BSMs allows the AR-3 to engage targets at a range between
20km and 280km. The AR-3 has adopted a universal
launching platform to fire 750mm tactical missiles, 380mm anti-ship missiles, and
370mm/300mm guided-rockets. As of now, members of the Fire Dragon SS-BSM family
comprise the 130km-range, 300mm Fire Dragon-140A, 220km-range, 370mm Fire
Dragon-220, 280km-range Fire Dragon-280A, 360km-range Fire Dragon-480, and the
610mm King Dragon-300.
Hanwha Systems, along with South Korea’s
state-owned Agency for Defense Development (ADD), has developed the Chunmoo
family of SS-BSMs since 2011 at a cost of US$418 million. SS-BSMs developed to
date comprise the 80km-range, 239mm Chunmoo-1; 180km-range, 400mm Chunmoo-2;
and 300km-range, 600mm Chunmoo-3 SS-BSMs.
The Chunmoo’s vertical launcher has
room for two—one in each of its two independently elevating pods. The launcher
alternatively can carry 40 Guryong 130mm rockets, 12 Chunmoo-1s (239mm) or four
rounds of the Chunmoo-2 (400mm) and two rounds of the Chunmoo-3. All such
SS-BSMs use bunker-bursting penetrator warheads.
For the IA, there are two long-range rocket
artillery options that can be series-produced. One is the Pinaka-2 MBRL that
can fire 214mm guided-rockets out to a range of 75km with a CEP of 2 metres,
while the other is the 380mm Prahar SS-BSM with a range of 200km with a CEP of
20 metres when using a ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system. The CEP can be reduced to 2 metres if a IRNSS/NAVIC-aided navigation system is used.
Projectiles With PGK Versus
Rockets With PGK
Even though sensor-fuzed
munitions (SFM) are very expensive, their effect is so superior that their use
is cost-effective for counter-artillery bombardments in comparison to either
cluster sub-munitions or unitary artillery rounds. For all unguided weapons,
the ability to hit the target is a function of the environment and the
properties of the launching unit, be it a howitzer or a combat aircraft.
Meteorological factors are also of importance, but that is also the case for
other weapons. The main difference between cluster sub-munitions and unitary
weapons is the descent phase, i.e. from the ejection of the sub-munitions to
the impact on ground or target. Usually, the deviation due to wind during that
phase is insignificant compared to the other factors that influence the
accuracy. This factor is most pronounced when bomblets are ejected from
aircraft-attached dispensers at high altitude. It is also important to note
that the lack of accuracy due to wind is uncorrelated with most other sources of
error for the system. This means that there is no connection between the
bomblet wind-error and errors concerning launching, aiming, positioning and so
on.
This further implies that such an error does not add linearly to the other
errors. As an example, a howitzer may have an error in the positioning of the
bomblet ejection point of say 200 metres. The error due to the fall phase
wind-error could be 40 metres. The total error will thus be around 204 metres
and not 240 metres, as it would be if the errors were correlated. Thus, we see
that it is the largest components of the error budget that dominates the total
error, and that smaller uncorrelated errors may become quite insignificant.
The use of rocket-propelled field
artillery like MBRLs to some extent overcomes these limitations and difficulties.
In addition, the load on the payload is much more benign when being fired by a
rocket than from a howitzer. A howitzer may load the shell to more than 20,000
G, while a MBRL-launched rocket may not exceed 1,000 G. However, unguided
rockets are notoriously inaccurate, as they are very prone to wind-gusts during
the boost phase. This phase typically takes place in the lower 500–800 metres
of the atmosphere, a region characterised by having quite variable and
unpredictable wind-fields. The inaccuracy of a MBRL-launched rocket is thus at
least twice as high as for a tube artillery round fired at the same range.
Rockets are thus well-suited for firing very advanced sub-munitions like SFMs. Such rockets are guided by a combination of GPS and INS. The accuracy
of such systems is usually 2 metres or better. This implies that such systems
can be considered as point target weapons. Provided that the target coordinates
are set correctly, that the target is within range of the system, and that it
arrives fully intact to the target, the collateral damage inflicted by such
weapons is minimal.
A SFM is
guided in the sense that the warhead has a detector that scans the target area.
If a target is sensed, the warhead fires a kinetic-energy projectile against
it. There are no thrust control rockets or mechanical devices that actively
steers the warhead. The term “self-aiming warhead” may thus be the most descriptive
term. This is indeed a high-tech and very expensive type of cluster munition. A
SFM usually comprises a cylindrical high-explosive warhead of the EFP-type
(Explosively-Formed Projectile). The lower end of the warhead is shaped like a
bottom-up saucer. Upon detonation, this saucer is inverted and formed into a
carrot-like projectile with a velocity of around 2km/second. If the design is
right, this projectile will get an aerodynamically stable shape, making it
capable of maintaining its penetrative capacity even when fired at a range of
200 metres from the target. This projectile is intended to hit and perforate
the roof of any armoured target. It may perforate an RHA armour of more than
150mm thickness, creating a hole of roughly 10cm in diameter, with devastating
results to the target. However, it cannot be claimed that any hit with an SFM
projectile implies a confirmed kill. Probably 2 to 4 hits are required. The
projectile can be made of iron, copper or tantalum. The latter is the most
promising material because of its high density at around 16kg/cubic metre. The
sensor usually contains at least two of the following four modes: infra-red
sensor to detect hot targets, optionally at different wavelengths; active
millimetre wave radar to detect the range to the target; passive millimetre
radar (radiometer) to detect objects hidden by camouflage or vegetation; and a laser
scanner that recognizes the height contour of a possible target.
When the sub-munitions
are released in air, their speed is first decreased by a balute before it
enters a stable descent phase by a parachute, an airfoil or a pair of flaps.
The sensory device is then folded out and activated. The sub-munition will
inherit the spin of the original projectile. However, the sensory device, or
other mechanical features, makes the whole sub-munition asymmetric, the axis of
spin will then be oblique to the natural axis of the warhead. The rotational
movement will therefore be nutational and the sensory device will make a scan
track on the ground that is like an inward turning spiral. If the sensor
discovers anything that is identified as a target, it fires the projectile at
it. The search phase usually starts at an altitude of around 300 metres above
ground. The nutational axis may have around 30-degree obliquity. Thus, the scan
area may have a radius of around 180 metres. For tube artillery ammunition,
where there are two sub-munitions per round, while the scan areas have their
centres separated by around 300 metres, so that the areas have a slight
overlap.
Consider a
target area where there are 30 metres of trenches per 1,000 square metres of
target area. The trenches mare all 1-metre wide. The probability that a bomblet
will fall into a trench is then 3%. We may further assume that the design of
the trench is such that a bomblet dropping into it will have a lethal area of 3
square metres. For a 155mm cargo shell having 88 bomblets, the total lethal area
will then be 88 x 0.03 x 3 square metres = 8 square metres. The possibility
that a soldier may be injured by two or more bomblets is then neglected. A
wider trench will increase the lethal area.
SFMs, now
widely deployed after 30 years in the development stage, is a far better
alternative than conventional and passive bomblets when targetting hostile entrenched
infantry positions. The very size and impulse of the projectile being projected
against the target from sensor-fuzed warheads makes it difficult to find a
viable protection. Even if SFMs are expensive, they seem to give far better
cost-effectiveness than both unitary and cluster munitions.
For
rocket-artillery systems like the Smerch-M MBRL (developed by the Federal State
Unitary Enterprise SPLAV State Research and Production Association) ,
the MOTIV-3M SPBE was developed by Joint Stock Company Scientific Production
Association BAZALT (JSC SPA BAZALT) in the 1980s, with the intent to produce a
SFM capable of engaging multiple armoured vehicles and field artillery systems simultaneously.
This work was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1991. Each Smerch-M rocket
contains 15 MOTIV-3M SPBE (samopritselivayushchiysya boyevoy element) sub-munitions,
which use infra-red seekers to target armoured vehicles and howitzers.
The
later model SPBE-D sub-munition employs a dual-mode IR seeker, whilst the
SPBE-K also includes a millimetre-wave radio-frequency sensor that can pick up
cold vehicles with engines turned off. The latest sub-munitions can be operated
in conjunction with an identification friend or foe (IFF) system. However this
is not a function of the SPBE model. The sub-munition functions after a
predetermined time delay, ejecting the parachute-equipped sub-munitions. These
spin in a controlled fashion, sweeping the area below for targets. Upon
functioning, the SPBE series sub-munitions fire an explosively-formed
penetrator (EFP), which is believed to be capable of penetrating approximately
70mm of rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) at an angle of 30 degrees, from a
distance of 100 metres. Some details on the sub-munitions’ guidance and
control can be found in a Russian patent, lodged by
BAZALT in 2006 (link below).
For artillery
shells, the correct performance of the munition depends on the functioning of
the main fuze of the carrier. This fuze should, at a predefined time, ignite
another charge that, consequently, opens the container and releases the
payload. If that fuze fails, and no payload is released, the shell will suffer
a monolithic ground impact. Most artillery and mortar rounds hit the ground
with a speed of 300–400 metres/second if the fuze fails. If the ground is soft
(as is the case throughout J & K UT and PoK), the projectile will usually
penetrate the ground and remain buried. In urban, mountainous and stony
terrain, there is a certain chance that the projectile will suffer considerable
damage and thereby eject the whole payload or parts of the payload. Bomblets
thrown out at such an event may not have time to arm properly and may therefore
likely become duds. However, such duds will have less probability of being
sensitive to handle, but they should still be handled with utmost care.
A fully
guided artillery projectile is intended to be fired from current 155mm howitzers,
but the projectile has a set of wings for the purpose of de-spinning, gliding
and manoeuvring. Both the range and precision will then be dramatically
improved compared with traditional projectiles. An alternative solution for
improvement of precision is to develop a special fuze that enables some kind of
guidance or rather course correction. This concept is now known as the “Precision
Guided Kit” (PGK).
The kit is an advanced fuze that, in addition to the safety
and arming functions, is equipped with GPS navigation and two pairs of winglets
that make course-corrections along the trajectory. The kit is decoupled from
the rest of the projectile by a ball-bearing joint, so that the projectile body
spins as before, while the kit does not. It is likely that this kind of kit can
compensate for the inaccuracy of the current 155mm tube artillery-launched
projectiles, and that it is able to increase the precision by at least one
order of magnitude. Another advantage of such a concept is that the current
stock of unitary artillery munitions can be exploited as it is. Only the fuze
part has to be exchanged.
Several types of such 155mm
projectiles exist today. France’s NEXTER Systems has developed the
Menhir Mk.I, which comes equipped with a duck empennage, an inertial
measurement unit (IMU)and a GPS system to offer a CEP of less than 10 metres.
The Mk.2 variant will be guided on the ground by a manportable laser target
designator, reducing the CEP to 2 metres. NEXTER also hopes to extend its
maximum range to 60km by working on reducing the drag of the base and by
adding additional fins which, deployed at the peak of shooting, will allow
the shell to, literally hover. Other particularly innovative options are
also being studied, such as retargetting the shell and resistance to GPS
countermeasures. NEXTER has also started to reflect on the evolution of the
explosive charges dedicated to “intelligent” shells. These “charges 2.0”
will be produced by 3-D printing using in particular alumide, a very resistant
polyamide and aluminum alloy. The resulting complex architecture, designed
according to the target, will optimise the fragmentation of the shells for an
ideal distribution of the fragments.
Another
NEXTER-developed 155mm projectile is the KATANA, whose guidance is ensured by a
hybridisation between a GNSS signal receiver and an IMU. In the future, sub-metre-scale
precision will be accessible through the addition of an optional semi-active
laser distance gauge.
Orbital ATK Armament Systems M1156 PGK
(which has been on offer to India since 2016), equipped with a GPS receiver,
can be attached to a standard shell, converting it into a missile with a
declared accuracy of 5 metres. Orbital ATK’s PGK is much cheaper than EXCALIBUR
(the unit price is less than US$10,000 and could even drop to $3,000 per unit
with a major order), but is believed to be less accurate than EXCALIBUR. It
also provides traditional fuze functions for height-of-burst and point
detonation.
Israel Aerospace Industries’ TopGun
converts standard artillery ammunition into a precision-guided weapon, by using
a guidance integrated fuze, without significantly altering firing routines.
TopGun performs 2-D correction of the ballistic trajectory, i.e. it reduces
dispersion in both range and deflection for less than 20-metrer CEP at any
range.
BAE Systems/ROKAR’s Silver Bullet is a
self-contained unit that screws into the fuze-well of a 155mm shell. The rear
portion of the unit spins with the shell, but the forward part remains stable.
Included in the unit is a multipurpose fuze with point, delay and proximity
options. Mounted on the guidance section are moving canards that cater for
fire-correction. The ability of the round to self-correct its trajectory means
it only needs rough aiming, in turn saving a considerable amount of time to
engage targets accurately.
Coming now to
propellants, no revolutionary events have taken place since the development of
TNT. HMX and RDX are the most effective explosives in common use, but their
performance is not radically different from that of TNT. One of the latest
developments is CL-20, which is about twice as effective as TNT. A new track of
development, involving manufacture of molecules consisting solely of nitrogen
atoms, has the potential of being close to 20 times more effective than TNT.
This technology is very complex, and it may still take several decades before
such explosives are commercially available. Fuel-air explosives (FAE) and
thermobaric explosives (TBX) are often mentioned as new developments. The
advantage of these types is the elongated duration of the pressure pulse, which
enhances the efficiency, especially when used in confined spaces such as
hardened bunkers.
The Optimum
Solution
When it comes to pinpoint counter-artillery
bombardments, the best lessons can be learnt from the exchanges of
fire-assaults between the two Koreas. For instance, when North Korean artillery
bombarded the island of Yeonpyeong in November 23, 2010, killing four, a Battery of six South Korean K-9 Thunder tracked returned fire with eighty 155mm
shells, but it remains disputed whether that counter-artillery barrage was at
all effective. As a result, Seoul decided to fund the development of a family
of ground-launched precision-strike NLOS-SS-BSMs specially designed to rapidly
take out North Korean tube/rocket artillery systems in their hardened
encasements. The state-owned Agency for Defense Development (ADD) partnered
with Hanwha Corp and spent three years and the equivalent of around $418 million
developing the NLOS-SS-BSMs.
Though the KTSSM-1 has a shorter range of 120km—still
adequate for the role—its GPS-guidance system is five times more precise, with
half of all shots landing within a 2-metre radius of the target, instead of 10
metres for the ATacMS. The KTSSM-1 “Artillery Killer” consists of a fixed
launcher that can discharge all four of its tactical ballistic missiles in a
matter of seconds. Reportedly, the launcher and missiles combined cost roughly
$1.9 million each. The missile’s shaped thermal penetrating warhead allows it
to penetrate up to 1.5 metres of intervening concrete.
Following the South Korean example, the
US too is expediting the development of such NLOS-SS-BSMs, albeit with longer
ranges of up to 500km. Lockheed Martin has developed the PrSM, while Raytheon has
developed the DSM. Such futuristic NLOS-SS-BSMs will be offered with two
warhead options: shaped thermal penetrating warhead, and another containing
SFMs, since the combination of both these types of warheads is widely regarded
as being the optimum counter-artillery bombardment solution.

That was some precision. M982 bought for this very purpose I believe.
DeleteDada, i would be thankful if you could give an estimate of number of PA regular troops killed all these years on LOC in cross border firing and more importantly deep inside POK away from the LOC in punitive strikes. We are suffering casualties along LOC and in hinterland both. Today PA troops can move without any fear in the so-called AJK component of POK while IA has to be alert all the time even in the hitlertand especially after the Pulwama attack. This has to change. The so-called AJK is a narrow strip of land it can be bombed to cast terror in the heart of PA and bring life there to a standstill. Why doesn't the IA do that instead of small scale reactive strikes like this?
ReplyDeleteTo DASHU: Back in September 2016 itself the IA had advised the Govt of India to authorise such fire-assaults at least once every week for a non-stop 6-month period. But for that to happen, the IA requires more 155mm howitzers. Fortunately, the M-777s have started arriving.
ReplyDeleteTo KAPIL: The PA lost about 4,000 of its personnel since the early 1990s & this figure does not include the 1,500+ that died due to OP Vijay/OP Safed Sagar back in 1999. But as I have explained above, the IA requires overwhelming field artillery firepower superiority because the PA does not use its manpower from Punjab or Balochistan or KPK along the LoC or inside PoK & Instead uses irregular forces like the Mujahid & jaanbaaz Force since their manpower-strengths are expendable & do not have any adverse impact on the PA's ORBAT. Consequently, the IAF's firepower also needs to be employed inside PoK but this will only be possible when LR-SAMs like S-400 or XR-SAM or Barak-8ER are available in sufficient numbers to deter the PAF's MRCAs from interfering with the IAF's offensive air-strikes within PoK. Such LR-SAMs will keep the PAF away from PoK's airspace.
Do we have enough radar coverage over the heights of PoK to mount SAM against PAF??..i mean stiff hills and valleys are deterimental to ensure fool proof radar coverage for long range SAM r8??
DeleteIt's time along with upgrading 300 M46 guns to 155/45 caliber, we up gun the Bofors too with atleast 45 caliber gun to extend it's range. Also we need to invest in local production of guided 155mm and 105mm shells , 120mm mortars and loitering munitions.
ReplyDeletehi prasun
ReplyDeleteyout inteligence gathering capacity and write up are great. I believ a hell of a lot of effort and time have expended .
when such precise locations are known is it not easy to target them with excaliber rounds and take out gun pits and all inportant facilities. are they all within the range of the excaliber round ?
what stops pak from acquiring the same excaliber equal form china ? i believe they have one . How did china make those extremely High G tolerant electronics that go into the excalibe r?
Again pinaka type arty can also be used . The US gps guided MLRS is highly precise can we make them now . Is the NAVIC gps integrated on to pinaka sysytems and how accurate are they?
what is the big Deal in sending the LCA to malaysia for evaluation? All they did was exposing the LCA to them and nothing else . what was he thinking of the people who made that decsion. whne fully knowing they will not buy israeli sysytems . some body showing off to the detriment of the country?
Dear Prasun,
ReplyDelete1. Is AAR-60 MILDS-F MAWS pylon based?
2. Is there any homegrown ASPJ solution in India right now?
3. Are you satisfied with the progress of Tejas Mk1A and MWF?
Prasun Da,
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/derekbisaccio/status/1012678667061751809
How dose Azerbaijan has both Barak-8 & Barak-8ER SAM land version in there service before IAF and IA.India and Israel jointly developed it,but it in service in 3rd nation first. Why it is still not been inducted in IAF or IA.
PrasunDa,
ReplyDelete1. You make this important point that the Pakistani Army is unlikely to cease its infiltration attempts anytime soon, since the bulk of its manpower deployments within PoK comprise irregular combatants. So what do these regular fire assaults from the IA seek to achieve?
As you have mentioned that PA too is carrying out regular fire assault in Baramulla’s Uri and Bandipora’s Gurez sectors.
Shouldn't the IA carry out massive fire assault to completely annihilate the PA's artillery forces?
2. To be sure, even highly trained and technically superior US and Israeli SFs also suffer losses in conflict. Given your experience on such operation procedures should India's SF improve some aspects of their training and incorporate communication systems and weapons that they do not have right now?
Thank You
VIKRAM
Prasun, bhai we shell them with precision guided rounds but how we are ourselves prepared against such attack from Pak Artillery.
ReplyDeleteSir, thanks for the reply but what you said about the use of IAF sound a bit defeatist. Is the IAF helpless against PAF without S-400 and Barak-8ER? S-400 will arrive only by 2021 end, Barak-8ER could be delayed because of COVID-19 and XRSAM exist only on papers. All that PAF has is a fleet of 70 F-16s. We have one of the best air superiority fighter in Su-30 MKI. Rafales are coming soon. Our Mig-21s and Mirages can take on their JF-17 blunders. If still IAF is helpless against a non-existent force like PAF than it is very worrying.
ReplyDeleteDada,
ReplyDeleteWhat is the composition of Mujahid and Jaanbaaz force? Is it majority Punjabi like PA? In Kargil, PA did not accept bodies of its dead soldiers because they belonged to NLI. Does PA not care even for its dead Punjabi troops? How do we fight an enemy that doesn't care about suffering heavy loses?
Pls explain the geography of LOC. In terms of terrain and deployment what are the areas both north and south of pir panjal where IA has advantage over PA?
How are you Prasun sir? Hope you are doing good. Back to your comment section after a long time. I want to know about the economic situation of India and Pakistan in post corona world because it has important implications related to national security. Pakistan economy was already declining and WB had projected a very grim future for them with low growth and high inflation while in our case economy was in a slowdown and growth was projected to return to 6% by next year. All that has changed now. Besides building our military strength, which we are, Pakistan's economic collapse is important to take decisive action in POK. Pakistan's economic collapse now seems imminent (unless it is helped by China and KSA in a big way) and CPEC might die as well. But now with our own economy going into the ground because of COVID-19, what future do you see regarding final action on POK?
ReplyDeleteTo VIKRAM GUHA: Such fire-assaults cause: 1) attrition losses of manpower & equipment for the PA. 2) Demoralise the local population of PoK & help the IA achieve moral ascendancy. The PA’s fire-assaults are of the area saturation-type designed to demoralise the civilian population of J & K, whereas the IA’s targeted pinpoint fire-assaults destroy the PA’s battleworthy assets like ammo storage sites & artillery howitzers. If the IA carries out such pinpoint fire-assaults in a sustained manner for 6 months, the PA will be begging for an enduring ceasefire just like it had done back in November 2003. In my view, there was NO NEED to employ SOF personnel on such missions. The specially-trained Ghaatak platoons of the regular infantry were more than capable of carrying out such counter-infiltration missions.
ReplyDeleteTo SHRIRANGA: Does the PA possess such PGMs? Are they likely to procure such PGMs from anyone in future? Certainly China does not produce such PGMs nor does the PLA possess such GPS-guided PGMs.
To KAPIL: It may well sound anything that you may perceive it to be, but that is the ground reality when both air forces have AEW & CS platforms for conducting offensive airborne battle management. Consequently, denial of airspace to the hostile AEW & CS platforms through LR-SAMs is the only option worth exercising. The other option is to destroy the PAF’s principal & forward air bases through cruise missile strikes & if this were to be done, then the IAF will require to expend at least 60 ground-launched or air-launched cruise missiles per PAF air base—close to 600 cruise missiles will be reqd. But the IAF is devoid of such cruise missiles since the ‘desi’ GTRE-developed turbofan for the Nirbhay is still unavailable for flight-testing. Nor are ‘desi’ SS-BSMs armed with penetrator warheads & low CEPs (less than 2 metres) available for being ground-launched & being used against the HAS installations at the PAF’s air bases.
To PRATAP: Composition is the same as that of LeT, JeM, HuJI & HuM, i.e. mostly rural Punjabis & Pashtuns from Punjab & KPK provinces, with the rest hailing from the famiies of Punjabi/Pashtun settlers in PoK. Geography of the LoC & PoK was already explained here:
https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2019/07/behind-much-feted-victory-in-theindia.html
https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2017/10/why-chhamb-continues-to-matter.html
To VARUN: Just because there’s low economic activity due to the countrywide lockdowns does not mean that the country’s purchasing power too has declines. In other words, this is just a temporary lull & the losses can easily be recovered by raising productivity-levels. In addition, major supply-chains owned by Japan & the US are looking for alternate relocation sites as they have already made up their minds to leave China. So it now all depends on how India’s ‘netas’ decide to play their cards, especially since the expenditure on crude oil & LNG imports will stay greatly reduced for the next 2 years due to their reduced purchase prices. Inside PoK, resentment is growing by the day, as evidenced by these:

To ANKIT KUMAR: The older FH-77Bs cannot be upgunned or upgraded. IRNSS/NAVIC-guided 155mm projectiles are in the process of being developed, as is the Pinaka-2 guided MBRL rocket & Prahar SS-BSM.
ReplyDeleteTo RAD: VMT. Different kinds of targets located at different range envelopes require a mix of guided-munitions, ranging from 155mm rounds to guided MBRL rockets & SS-BSMs. That has been the experience of the ROK Army when engaging in artillery counter-bombardments against North Korean tube/rocket artillery fire-assaults. I will upload some additional data on this in this thread later. The NORINCO-developed GP-155B has not yet been perfected as a Beidou GPS satellite-guided projectile & to date NORINCO has developed only the laser-guided GP-155A projectile (a clone of Russia’s Krasnopol that the IA already possesses since the past 19 years. Sending Tejas Mk.1s to any expo abroad was a sheer waste of money & effort. No one in the world wants a half-developed weapons platform.
To ASD: 1) Again, do refer to my previous posts dealing with this subject, where everything was detailed. 2) Yes, the D-29 suite developed by DARE for the IAF’s MiG-29UPGs, a similar internally mounted suite for the Jaguar IS/DARIN-3 & also the suite originally developed for Tejas Mk.1 but now destined for the MWF. Had detailed all these too quite a few times before. 3) No. Not until both platforms are awarded their respective certificates of airworthiness by CEMILAC.
To AMIT BISWAS: LR-SAMs are NEVER used against any combat aircraft. Instead, they are used to deter the airspace surveillance range envelopes of AEW & C platforms. Without AEW & CS cues, the PAF’s airborne battle management capacity will be severely degraded & its MRCAs will be at a severe disadvantage when confronting the IAF’s MRCAs that will be backed up by AEW & CS platforms operating safely from the hinterland.
Meanwhile, yesterday at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, the PLA Navy's first Type 075 LHD that is undergoing fitting out, caught fire. Looks like the fire occurred in the propulsion compartment:
https://defence-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/EVTIgKyU8AErhfv.jpg
To SUSAN: Because n India’s case the Barak-8ER is already ready for delivery & it was even shown at Aero India 2019 expo (look it up in the thread dealing with this expo), but it cannot be deployed unless it is integrated with the IAF’s IACCCS network & for this the Arudhra & Ashwini S-band active phased-array radars are needed. Series-production of these radars has only just begun. The Azerbaijani Barak-8ERs use ELTA Systems EL/M-2084 MPRs.
Dada,
ReplyDeleteYour analysis please on the followings.
1. Has LCA air-frame been redesigned and tested for mounting Gun in LCA SP 21 as LCA air-frame aerodynamic has not been designed and tested with Gun mounted previously? In the past you have explained Gun system should be mounted in air-frame (structural integration) at the time of design and testing unlike LCA development saga which makes incorporation of any Cannon in LCA (as mentioned at the time of FOC) rather improbable (as you mentioned never tried by any nation in past).
2. UNSC meeting turned out to be a damp squib, let-up for China considering Wuhan Chinese Virus/ CCP Virus.
3. Ruskies played dirty politics in UNSC meet to negate Uncle Sam's influence (and consequential spurt in its clout) in terms of asking to revoke non UN approved sanctions (meant US introduced sanctions in Iran, North Korea and potential one targeting China)
4. Triage of events at UNSC meet implies under the table deal between Russia and China.
5. UK and France attitude at UNSC meet suggests prolly these countries are intimated for a face-off with China.
6. West Bengal Government is hiding data for COVID -19 patients and deaths and Muslim majority district (Murshidabad) and other pockets have been openly violating Lock Down and police is beaten up/ threatened in police tried to enform shutdown.
“ PA will be begging for an enduring ceasefire just like it had done back in November 2003”
ReplyDeleteHelp me understand why did India gave in and concluded to have ceasefire agreement ?
Why it did not ask for to stop terrorism? What did India gained in 2003?
Inside PoK resentment is going on for 50 years still nothing happened
Ron
isnt India already operating el/m 2084 radars? In fact this was covered 10 years ago at this very blog. http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2011/06/arudhra-mpr-is-elm-2084-mmr-seeing-is.html?m=1
ReplyDeleteCant IAF use GS100 and already inducted elm 2084 radar for FCR?? AFaik i have seen them in naliya and tezpur...Whats the benefit of using S band over L band sir??
ReplyDeleteTo AD: 1) The GSH-23 cannon was test-fired from Tejas Mk.1’s LSP-7 back in 2015 for the first time, when excessive vibration was encountered. The airframe was designed from the outset to incorporate the bulkhead & electrical wiring for the cannon. With the benefit of hindsight, we all can conclude that no matter what the delays, the cannon-firing trials should have been completed by 2017 on the LSP-7, so that the first 20 Tejas Mk.1s could have incorporated the cannon. 2 & 3) This won’t be the last UNSC meeting on the pandemic. 4) For the time-being, yes. 5) They are buying time for relocating their existing industrial supply-chains. 6) There is no data to be hidden simply because there are not enough testing kits available for an entire local community. In any case, in all semi-urban areas of India, the public health facilities have always been abysmal.
ReplyDeleteTo RON: Because India wanted to buy time for constructing the fence along 60% of the LoC, especially in the highlands. After Kaksar & right up to NJ9842 the LoC is still not fenced. In January 2004 Pakistan officially & publicly agreed to put an end to all forms of cross-LoC movements of people, but that promise was never kept.
To SANJEEV: The IAF-operated EL/M-2084 radars are being operated as standalone medium-power radars for airspace surveillance. Hence they can’t be used now for airborne target illumination/engagement for the Barak-8s. After the Arudhra MPRs become operational, those EL/M-2084s will be modified for providing fire-control cues for the Barak-8s.
To RAD: Have explained above with new slides how & why are SS-BSMs the preferred options when resorting to counter-artillery bombardments.
Following up with your answer to my question:- does that mean that the desi Arudra radars are only for standalone surveillance? Or some of them will be doing fire control for barak?
ReplyDeleteTo AMIT BISWAS & SANJEEV: You will find the answers here:
ReplyDeletehttps://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2020/01/new-weapons-showcased-at-rdp-2020.html
The 'desi' Arudhra is an MPR, while the Ashwini is a LLTR. Both have different functions & missions, just as the S-band Rohini 3-D CAR & L-band Rajendra BLR have for the Akash-1 E-SHORADS. Similarly, the IA's ADTCR variant of the 'desi' Arudhra' has different functions & missions.

prasun,
ReplyDelete-what is this about--http://www.indiandefensenews.in/2020/04/lightweight-integrated-aircrew-helmet.html ... wasn't this already avaliable with the russian / french/isreali helmet combos?
-Is the shaurya missile in production & deployed by the IA?
- You had earlier mentioned about a joint development of next gen smerch rockets(instead of pinaka 3)? & how much better will it be from the existing ones
Dear Prasun,
ReplyDeleteYou lay stress on National Defense University to deal with internal security issues that arise due to anti-nationals or during pandemic.
However, I want to draw your attention regarding Odisha government and Kerala government during disaster time. Few years back, these two government have successfully dealt with the disaster. Even CM of Odisha went a step ahead to rescue civilians from typhoon well ahead of time with least or no casualty.
This was successfully achieved by proper planning by the government and administration.
What I discussed was natural disaster. If I bring to your notice about military disaster, we can have army to plan yand coordinate with MoD or GoI to minimize the casualty.
So I don't understand where we can attribute the failure of COVID-19 pandemic to the absence of NDU. I feel due to minority appeasement, government of Delhi and in Shaheenbagh MoHA failed miserably.
Please enlighten me about the importance of NDU. Of course I am missing something in between.
Dear Sir,
ReplyDelete1. It is reported that Mujhid forces operating on the LC are mainly recruited from POK and are excellent mountain warfare troops. Previously PA's National Guard outfits followed the concept of operating near where they are recruited. Main reason was the local knowledge, train young (college/uni age) part-time and much cheaper. Does this still hold true? Can we do something similar?
2. These Pakhtuns and Punjabis in POK, what percentage of the population are they and when did they move there? (From my understanding the POK residents are quite militant and would not tolerate it.)
3. Love the images above, thank you. Are there any images of the damage being inflicted? The expoding ammo dump would create one hell of a hole.
4. As we have been conducting these fire assults on them, have they not built deep and well protected bunkers? If so what damage would these assults do to their forces. Reason I am asking is that we always hear in their press mainly civilians being killed.
5. Also read few years ago that they were going to raise another 60 Wings (equiv of Battalion) of the FC to free up PA for their eastern border. Can we expect more PA in the future?
RAT2
Dada
ReplyDeleteI think the LOC will further heat up as PA will retaliate and IA will have to strike punitively
Pls clarify
1. The excalibar is a GPS guided shell, isn't US will be fore warned whenever we try to use it
2. Out of 1200 rounds that were acquired how many would have been used and further flare up means dwindling of this vital stock
3. Can not we use Prithvi as Tactical battle missile and make it ready with conventional payloads. How many nos according to ur estimates are there in IAs inventory
4. The Parhar, Pragati and Shaurya missiles are schedule to be ready by what time frames and do the existing infrastructure created for Prithvi, Agni and Pinaka missile suffice for producing these news battlefield missiles in large nos.
5. As these MRLS are the large area weapons, can the same be tweaked for precision strikes by incorporating trajectory correction elements or incorporating GPS guidance. Has anybody in the world has tweaked the tube artillery for the same
Sir, should we expect bigger military operations in POK in the future when S-400 and Barak-8 ERs would be deployed in adequate numbers may be by 2023-2024? That's the sense I get from your replies.

ReplyDeletePrasun Da,
Watch at 1:47 KALYANI GROUP ULTRA LIGHT HOWITZER in School of Artillery in Devlali. How its test going.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPKSodHmfDQ
WB govt is indeed not proactive and transparent in data dissemination as being done by states like ODISHA and TN with daily updated briefings about death, active and recovered cases with Map based ATLAS...whereas in WB committe has been formed who will decide death cause for COVID 19 instead of doctor and hospital which is fishy... instead of clear cut briefing and info, WB with high population density is hotbed for CORONA..politics could have ben set aside this time atleast..hope atleast the administration sees the stake
ReplyDeleteDada, PA today fired shells deep inside Kupwara in which 3 ppl died. Pics show heavy damage at the site. Some ppl on twitter said it was more than 20 KMs inside of LOC. I think they used 155 mm guns. This calls for a large scale action.
ReplyDeleteDo you think India can really use mbrl or short range missiles(this is what ss-bsm are after all)? This will be considered as major escalation(even by our so called western friends).
ReplyDeleteDada,
ReplyDeleteFew more queries,
1. Earlier you suggested in another 12 months timeline Cannon firing trials will be done from different altitude right from Sea Level to Mid to high altitude. Is this window of 12 months sufficient to finish of the testing phase given the fact ADA-HAL should and could have wind up this task no later than by 2017? And who is culprit here all-it-all wisdom of ADA or lackadaisical attitude of HAL?
2. Once Gun mounting exercise is successful, can this experience be translated into easier integration of Gun with MWF and AMCA?
3. Regarding COVID 19 UNSC meet where Russia turned out to be saviour of China, how long this bonhomie rather omen nexus between Russia and China will continue to exist? Mre importantly what is process of ousting China of UNSC permanent membership?
4. Has GoI initiated any economic reform plan/ strategy to ensure once foreign companies leave Chinese shore they prefer to land on India rather than Vietnam, Malayasia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines or Mexico?
To JUST-CURIOUS: You are not paying attention to the details. There are 3 elements in any HMDS: the helmet, the add-on optronic sensor, and the oxygen mask. The latter two are add-ons to the helmet & together constitute the HMDS. For MiG-29UPG & Su-30MKI pilots, the Shchel-3UM HMDS uses the ZSh-5 series helmet (and later ZSh-7 helmets), as shown here:
ReplyDeletehttps://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rpp70LYHfQs/XHiDgtM_vFI/AAAAAAAAQ1A/COYQBUWTHlkuW2QtozOgnpqrUMzEF6ksgCLcBGAs/s1600/Sura-1%2BHMDS.jpg
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D1Gpo9eWsAALiy-?format=jpg&name=medium
The IAF has now decided to integrate the add-on optronic sensor and the oxygen mask to the existing standard IAF helmet of the type shown here:
https://www.eastcoastdaily.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/abhinandan.jpg
The Shourya was NEVER ordered by anyone in India & that’s why the solid-fuelled Pralay NLOS-SS-BSM is being developed to replace the liquid-fuelled SS-150 Prithvi NLOS-SS-BSM. The new-generation Smerch-M rockets contain sensor-fuzed submunitions for use against hostile mechanised formations & such submunitions have existed since the past 20 years. The new-generation Smerch-M rockets have a 120km-range & are also readily available for sale by Russia.
And this arsehole wants all his country’s debts & loans to be forgiven without his country surrendering all its nuclear WMDs or reducing the annual defence budget!!! Such aresholes must clearly be dwelling in cuckooland:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OHWnmvfbkI
To ASD: You’ve got it completely WRONG & are making baseless assumptions. It has nothing to do with NDU, but a dual-use National Wargaming Simulation Centre. Hence, do go through all my earlier related comments & try to understand what was being conveyed.
To RAT2: 1) Totally untrue. Only the guides/scouts hail from PoK, & not the combatants. 2) Almost 60% as of now. 3) What seek images when the video surveillance footage reveals everything, both primary & secondary explosions? 4) That’s because the actual deaths of PA personnel due to such exchanges of fire are revealed 9 years later in the official website of the ISPR under the tag HILAL. 5) That plan was only 30% implemented since the loyalty of the personnel hailing from the Pashyun belt was highly suspect. Hence, Pakistan Rangers personnel had to be deployed throughout GB, while NLI personnel have been deployed along the Durand Line in both N & S Waziristan.
To THE ENGDOC SOCIETY: 1) Why shpuld anyone be forewarned? For what reason? 2) Less than 40 so far. 3) Prithvi ALWAYS had ONLY conventional warheads. Had mentioned & explained it several times before, including here:
http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2011/09/prahaar-nlos-bsm-explained.html
http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2018/10/from-prithvi-to-pralay.html
4) There’s no Pragati or Shpourya. Only Pralay & Prahar. I’ve also explained why the IA requires NLOS-SS-BSMs of the types developed by the US, China & South Korea. Does the Prahar resemble such new-genmeration NLOS-SS-BSMs in any manner? If not, then it means the Prahar needs to be re-engineered & made acapble of being launched not from standalone MBRLs, but from MBRLs that camn launch both such NLOS-SS-BSMs & rockets like the Pinaka-2. 5) NLOS-SS-BSMs are NOT area weapons, but are quick-reaction precision-strike weapons. Pay attention to their quoted CEP figures above. Tube artillery takes a long time to get into position & get aligned & are always vulnerable to counter-bombardment. In contrast, NLOS-SS-BSMs can operate from the hinterland & can be brought into action in a quick-reaction manner.
To SUSAN: It has NOT YET been subjected to any user field trials. It weighs 7 tonnes when made of steel & 4 tonnes when made of titanium, with the latter being too expensive. Only firings at Itarsi were carried out. The IA wants the truck-mounted version of that UFH.
Does iaf has el 8251 escort jammer in service nw??
ReplyDeletePrasunDa,
ReplyDelete1. Even before the nationwide lockdown, two(2) P75 Scorpene class submarine were yet to be launched. Are these delays caused mostly by trade unions?
2. You have explained why the IA requires NLOS-SS-BSMs to carry out these strikes. Can't these strikes be carried out by the BRAHMOS?
3. Are you expecting India to receive armed Predator type drones soon? If yes can these armed drones be used to carry out these strikes?
Thank You

Sir,
ReplyDelete1 In a thread dated 4 June 2011 you had said that Arudhra radar is nothing but Israeli EL/M 2084 radar. Is it true?
2 In your 14 Oct 2016 thread you said India will order Israeli EL/M-2090U LRTR for S-400. Have these radars been ordered? Why didn't we opt for Russian LRTR?
https://youtu.be/A_1tDBBroKM
ReplyDeleteIndians helmets so poorly designed🙄🤔😲
Prasunda,
ReplyDelete1) You once wrote that the Prahar is meant to deliver tactical nuclear warheads. Wo'nt a dedicated MBRL as it now has be sufficient for that purpose ?
2) Does'nt Russia also have conventional precision strike BSMs in the Iskander?
Satyaki
To AD: 1) Both ADA & the IAF are to be blamed for missing the developmental deadlines. Now due to the ongoing pandemic, the 12-momnth schedule will have to undergo extensions. 2) Of course, because the data-points & ballistics charts will be obtained. But anyone who selects the GHS-23 for either the MWF or AMCA will be a certified MORON. 3) Not for long, because Russia’s sufferings have just begun. 4) Unfortunately, mindsets take a very long time to change, especially in India & therefore Vietnam, The Philippines & Indonesia will reap the early harvests.
ReplyDeleteTo AMIT BISWAS: Presently, the IAF does not possess an escort jammers.
To VIKRAM GUHA: 1) No, but by corrections that had to be made after learning from the sea-going experiences of the first two CM-2000 Scorpene SSKs. 2) BrahMos-1 is meant for use against strategic targets like economic & military-industrial & transportation infrastructure. It is far too expensive a weapon system to be used for counter-artillery bombardment, i.e. cost-benefit ratios rule out the use of BrahMos-1 for tactical operations. 3) No, armed MALE-UAVs will not last for more than 30 minutes either in contested airspace or even in friendly airspace close to the LoC.
To RAD: 1) It is still under development. 2) Yes, the Prahar can be modified through re-engineering. The existing design is sub-optimal as evidenced by the mature designs adopted by the US & RoK for the ATACMS & Chunmoo KTSSM & the new-generation PRSM from Lockheed Martin. Will explain it all above through new slides later in this thread. Ev en Excalibur-type projectiles don’t have pinpoint accuracy, i.e. the CEP varies from 5 to 10 metres due to prevailing wind-flow conditions. Hence guided-rockets are preferable as they don’t get affected by winds & hence ensure pinpoijnt accuracy. In addition, 155mm projectiles can’t have penetrator warheads, whereas rockets can.
To SATYAKI: 1) You could easily have done some research of your own to find out the answer. For instance, has the IAF taken delivery of any Arudhra MPR from BEL/DRDO? If not, then why was the MPR commissioned in 2011 called Arudhra & whose mistake was it? Do read this:

Now compare the dimensions of the EL/M-2084 Arudhra & the DRDO-developed Arudhra:

2) Yes, they have been ordered. Russia does not possess LRTRs of this type. 3) The Prahar’s design as a conventional NLOS-SS-BSM is sub-optimal & it needs to be re-engineered to resemble the ATACMS & Chunmoo/KTSSM as it will be reqd to carry different types of warheads, like penetration-type, thermobaric & FAE. 2) Yes it does but the Iskander-E & the earlier Tochka SS-BSMs need to be upgraded with new-generation INS coupled with Glonass GPS receivers. In addition, their sizes need to be reduced. Ukraine has developed such a missile, called GROM.

you mentioned that the excaliber had a cep of 5 to 10 meters . But raytheon videos show the round having pracicaly a 1 meter cep. The wind conditions will be taken care by the control fins. will it be worth to have such an expensive round for 10 meter cep.?
the pics depicting the arudhra and israeli elm 2084 and MPR are confusing . as i understand the arudhra is verticaly designed and the MPR is more rectangular and bigger . I feel the MPR is a screw dirver tech of the 2084?

To TECHNOLOGY, PHOTOGRAPY & TRAVEL: Containment has already been achieved. Nothing to worry about at all. Far many Indians die ever year due to Hepatitis & dengue.
ReplyDeleteTo RAGHAVENDRA: Why not? These batches are always bought every year to replenish stockpiles that have bee expended during annual tests & exercises. Everyone in the world does so.
To RAD: If you don’t believe me, then here’s the CEP data from the US Arm,y itself:
https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-380VCr5Ja-8/XapPaTuZKBI/AAAAAAAAR1k/s_dfkCOgLXwqCr4vvkyr-So8fXUgDZD8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/M982%2BExcalibur-4.jpg

The EL/M-2084 from ELTA/IAI & the Arudhra MPR from DRDO/BEL are two completely diufferemt designs. The ones who made a stink by labelling the EL/M-2084 as the Arudhra MPR back in 2011 are the ‘desi patrakaars’. As I explained earlier, pinpoint strikes are possible only with fully-powered rockets or cruise missiles with terminal-guidance kits using either IIR seekers, MMW seekers, laser seekers or SAR seekers. Any ammo which is gliding or ballistic will never be able to attin pinpoint hit accuracy. After all, there are some arenas where Mother Nature has yet to be tamed. And that’s why fully-powered standoff PGMs like NLOS-SS-BSMs have been & are being developed worldwide.
To PRATAP: Not killed. It seems he had a heart-attack, i.e. cardiac failure.
To JOYDEEP GHOSH: In addition, the existing Prahar needs to be designed to have a conical shape like that of the ATACMS & KTSSM so that it can accommodate heavier/bulkier warheads of various types. The existing Prahar is optimised for carrying a far lighter low-yield tactical nuclear warhead. Pralay will require a twin-tube inclined launcher like that of the Lockheed Martin PrSM or Raytheon’s DSM:

do you think the MPR will be as good as the elm 2084? given the larger apterure of the Desi MPR in all aspects/
If not in what aspect will the isrtaeli radar be better?
It ssems the LCA did a wonder full job in the execises in rajasthan getting rave reviews from pilot and other . Is it a chest banging exercise or reality as som ecommts say that it out performed the Miarage 2000 in accuracy ? will that hold goo aginst the mitage 2000 upg/
from what i gather about precsion strike , we have to invest heavily in ssbm with precision capability> what stands inouyway for that? as we seem to have all the fundamental tech ie desi gps, laser gyro. sar radar, solid fuel rocket tech etc . will it not be easier to get some help from outside like US given the bonhomie or better Israel who will gladly help for a price?
again i would like know if there has been hardware development to garner the mil spec accuracy of our navic , without which all this investment and talk of accuracy is rubish?.

PrasunDa,
ReplyDeleteSubho Noboborsho to you and your entire family. May you continue to achieve success throughout this year.

Sir, in these times when medical aid and equipment is being send to many countries by India C-17 Globemaster is again proving out to be a great buy. I wish we had 10 more of these aircrafts. UPA govt made a big mess by not ordering more when the production in US was still going on. Our govt should now approach UAE, Kuwait and Qatar with offer to buy their C-17s. These tiny countries don't require strategic airlifter like this anyway. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteTo VIKRAM GUHA: And the very same to you & all your loved ones. Do stay safe & sound.
ReplyDeleteTo VARUN: Rest assured that Boeing will re-open the C-17A final-assembly facility as several countries are now queing up to place follow-on orders. The same will be the fate of the C-130J-30 Super Hercules as well. Meanwhile, this was the state of IAKN yesterday as he is coming under increasing pressure to reduce the defence expenditure by as much as 15%, especially after the FATF decided to maintain Pakistan in the grey-list & financial institutions like the IMF, WB & ADB refused to write off Pakistan’s debts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDc6hXBJ4E8
To mkake matters worse, Pakistan’s leading clerics have united to defy the lockdowns & hold regu;ar prayer meetings at mosques throughout the country during the month of Ramadan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8sa6KG6src&feature=youtu.be
And the Sindh state govt is now directly clashing with the Pakistan Army, since the latter along with the PTI-led federal govt wants to open Karachi & remove the lockdowns, so that imports for the PA & the country’s ruling elite can start flowing in. And this at a time when the following is happening:.
https://www.geo.tv/latest/282966-vips-facilitated-on-london-islamabad-flight-while-others-left-stranded
To RON: Total hogwash, rest assured.
To RAM BHARADWAJ: That project was terminated I 2016 itself due to the vessel’s unsafe design & unavailability of imported periscopes & masts.
To VENKY: That is already being worked upon, starting with the Pinaka-2 MBRL rockets. But even with such customised receivers, no artillery projectile will be able to acheve pinpoint accuracy.
To NAYANDEEP: Such temporary disruptions do not tend to derail the long-term objectives, rest assured. But the neighbourhood too is undergoing changes, like this:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/possible-chinese-nuclear-testing-stirs-us-concern
To AMIT BISWAS: Who has ever stated or admitted that Abdul Majed’s whereabouts were unknown to WB Police or Kokata Police? He was deported to Bangladesh only after certain requests of India were complied with by Dhaka & his whereabouts were always known since the day of his arrival. No EO-based sensor can provide credible early-warnings about cruise missile flight trajectories until the missiles are in their terminal stages of flight. Hence, widespread deployment of such sensors in any state is an impossibility. Indian orders for all variants of BrahMos-1 exceed 2,000. The DEW version of SAAW is far more lethal than escort jamming pod. THD-1955 long-range airspace surveillance radars have all been upgraded with solid-state electronics & hence they will serve for a few more years.
To RAD: All DRDO-developed & BEL-built radars starting frm the PSM-33 have been proven to be robust & reliable systems & so will the Arudhra, ADFCR & the Ashwini. Any MRCA equipped with LDP & flyng during daytime will have superb strike accuracies. The IN already possesses precision long-range strike capability with its existing Type-877EKM SSKs that can launch Novator 3M-14E Klub-S land-attack cruise missiles (variants of Russia’s Kalibre). The terminal guidance kit for Pinaka-2 rockets uses such high-accuracy MIL-SPEC receivers. The S-bamnd AESA antennae array for the AEW & CS is already being ground-tested.
My mistake actually it should be radar sites of drdo to detect and track cruise missile in rajsthan

Any updates about these projects sir
CABS is going for S band phased array AESA radar instead of L band as in phalcon AWACS...any specific reason for adopting the same ??
ReplyDeleteDear Prasunda.
ReplyDeleteKindly share your thoughts on
1. On 3 +3 Kilo offer from Russia if true, is IN going for it? Any chance instead of additional 3 x refurbished 877 types, will IN will opt for 3 or more new 636 series to build up numbers?
2. SIG 716 – will these numbers be extended to all 380 or so Inf Bns? I sincerely hope not with just iron sights as std, any adv sights will go along with them?
3. SSN – Is IN negotiating for a total of 2 more Akulas? So will we eventually in the coming decade have atleast 2 or 3 (if we extend Chakra II) Akulas on lease.
4. SSN – As you had long back mentioned the IN SSNs will be based on a new Russian type, perhaps the Laika’s – is this still valid? Or will there be a French connection here.
Thank you

Dear Prasun,

Please share your assessment.
To AMIT BISWAS: It was all explained in the DEFEXPO-2020 thread. Both S-band & L-band is used by the antennae. For cruise missile defence, the network of Arudhra MPSs will be installed.
ReplyDeleteTo JUST_CURIOUS: 1) Yes, there is. Pakistan will in all probability procure the tablets via Turkey. 2) That will happen in future. 3) Since orders have already been placed, it is now impossible to cancel the contract. 4) H-MRCAs like Su-30MKI are best-suited for launching such expendable UAS, not C-130s since the latter can be used only in uncontested airspace. 5) No, NATO won’t expand to the IOR, but the Quad will morphe into a NATO-like alliamnce. 6) Idiotic rumours as it goes against all laws of physics & mathematics. No LRMR/ASW platform in this world is used for launching land-attack ALCMs. 7) Again, an idiotic rumour. Rockets being vertically-launched? Has any country in this world ever attempted it? That’s why, as I have repeatedly stated, don’t follow such idiotic sources that specialise in spreading disinformation.
To KANE1966: 1) The offer is for dry-leasing of already-upgraded Type-877EKM SSKs. 2) Again, I have repeatedly stated that these SLRs are ONLY FOR the IA’s Northern & Eastern Commands. 3) No. Only for 1 Type 971 (it is not AKULA, but Shchuka). The Project 941 SSBM is called Akula by Russia. 4) Financial reasons will ensure that the existing design of the Arihant SSBN gets re-engineered into a smaller SSN.
To RAD: Because of power-supply & avionics cooling contraints. NAVIC MIL-SPEC transceivers are already in bulk production & I had even uploaded their images last year. Rafale was network-centric long before the birth of the JAS-39 Gripen-E. Had alteady explained several times before the C-band SATCOM, L-band & VHF-/UHF-band SDRs that are to be used for data-linking. SLCM version of the Nirbhay has been under development since 2016. Had already clarified several times before on the SDR meant for Tejas Mk.1A.
To KAUSTAV: LoLz! It indeed is an idiotic proposition & total rumour-mongering. No LRMR/ASW platform in this world is used for launching land-attack ALCMs. Meanwhile, have uploadfed above images of the PA/PR gunpits dotting the LoC & WB.

To BHVK: The Brahmapuitra also flows into Bangladesh & hence China will not play dirty with this river, rest assured.
To GOVIND: This will be a good assessment:

50,000 of 1.7 lakh PPE kits from China have failed DRDO quality checks. India will be REJECTING PPE kits which are failing quality checks. PrasunDa,
ReplyDelete1. Russia is apparently charging $2 billion for the 3 + 3 submarine deal. Isn't this amount very steep? Vietnam purchased 6 (six) new Kilo class (Project 636) submarines for $ 3.2 billion. Construction cost was $2.1 billion plus $1.1 billion for the related ecosystem such as building the necessary base infrastructure, armaments and other equipment, a training and simulator facility, etc
2. If it's true that China has re started nuclear testing secretly, is it possible that India will follow? Already China's reported nuclear arsenal is at least 3X that of India's.

To RAD: If you see the slides I had uploaded of the Pinaka-2 rocket & its guidance kit, you will notice that it was jointly developed & built by MBDA & ALPHA Technologies of India. There will be no Indian version of Smerch-M because OFB has teamed up with SPLAV JSC of Russia to co-produce Smerch-M rockets containing sensor-fuzed munitions. PA’s A-100 MBRLs contain only HE warheads & not any cluster or sensor-fuzed munitions. Any ASCM can be used for land-attack was well. Didn’t the IN back in December 1971 use its P-15 Termit anti-ship missiles to successfully target Pakistani coastal oil storage tanks at Keamari?
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, following the IA vCOAS’ visit to J & K, the IA’s counter-artillery bombardment under OP VAJRA-HAMMERHEAD is now all set to commence. All targets (99% of whose slides I’ve uploaded above) have been locked-n-loaded.
To RON: That loan has been extended so that Pakistan can continue servicing/repaying the previous loan instalments & now for the latest loan, Pakistan will have to repay that as well, thereby further adding to the financial debt burden of that country.
To VIKRAM GUHA: 1) Considering that the dry-leased SSKs will be operating with the IN for at least 120 years, that amount is highly attractive. When comparing it with Vietnam’s acquisition of 6 Type 636 SSKs, one has to take into account the acquisition costs + the annual operating & maintenance costs of those 6 SSKs, which works out to double the amount of US$3.2 bllion. 2) Not yet, but preparations seem to be underway at Lop Nur. But only low-yield TNW warheads are expected to be tested.
To UNKNOWN: Chances always exist. What matters most is grabbing/seizing the opportunities. India’s ‘netas’ failed to grab 2 such opportunities back in 1999 & 2002.

Sir,
ReplyDelete1. what exactly is the purpose of drdo shaurya missile? is it a td?
2. When do you think HAL Luh will be inducted? If so do you think ka 226 will be junked in favour of more luh?
3. is there a possibility of IAF might sign for additional 36-44 rafales in the year 2021 due to covid-19 pandemic?
4. despite concluding contract negotiations for c-295 in the nov 2019, contract signing is delayed due to lack of funds or Iaf thinking of buying c-130j as you have been mentioning?
5. will black shark or f-21 torpedo will be ordered in the near future?
To AMIT BISWAS: MGS-155 has emerged as the best replacement for MGS-105. Standardisation of barrel diameter is always the best option since it greatly simplifies battlefield logistics. MGS-105 is nowadays used only by guerrilla forces that do not have to contend with counter-bombardment. This is the area: https://www.dawn.com/news/1347113
ReplyDeleteRajgal area of Khyber Agency 33 56 43.66 N, 70 31 2.91 E
It is 2,000 feet lower than Chushul (14,268 feet) where the IA has parked its T-72CIA & T-90S MBTs.
To DASHU, AD, ASD, NAG & SUMIT SEN: It is the same old story about human error (of the ground maintenance crew) that gives rise to the so-called technical snags. And this is most likely because of non-operationalisation of flight & maintenance simulators. This is exactly what had caused the IAF’s crash of a C-130J-30 Super Hercules, as explained here:
https://theprint.in/defence/cag-report-blames-inadequate-training-for-2014-super-hercules-crash-that-killed-5/192940/
Any brand-new piece of hardware with a proven track-record NEVER produces technical snags UNLESS such snags are a consequence of human negligence. And no wonder when the ‘desi’ press was invited by the IAF to witness the commissioning of the Apache & Chinook sqns, there was ZERO coverage of the flight simulators that had already been delivered, but were yet to be commissioned into service! Not surprising at all, since simulators for the Su-30MKI began arriving only in 2007, seven years after the arrival of the H-MRCAs!!!
To RAD: No SSKs either from Russia or the ones from MDSL (CM-2000 Scorpene) will have AIPs until the first already-commissioned Scorpene goes back to the shipyard for its mid-life refit, when the MAREEM AIP plus-in will be installed. This what the IAF is getting:
http://roe.ru/eng/catalog/aerospace-systems/air-to-air-missile/rvv-sd/
But the Vympel R-37M (RVV-BD, Izdelie 610M) isn’t hypersonic by any stretch of imagination, nor is it as efficient as the Meteor in terms of kinematic performamce. One still requires SFDR-type propulsion for purposes of adjustable speeds against manoeuvring airborne targets in the BVR arena. For this, this is the Russia-origin BVRAAM (RVV-AE-PD) that promises to produce appreciable results:
https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rVyp-RRKPAI/XF4ehw1cQaI/AAAAAAAAQlw/hRMP3U5RMxoSXrtbFT72BLQUVYfnth_CQCLcBGAs/s1600/RVV-AE-PD.jpg

No SRAAM of any type is being developed by anybody in India, rest assured.
As for China’s stranglehold over India, kindly read this frightening but enlightening report:
https://www.gatewayhouse.in/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Chinese-Investments-in-India-Report_2020_Final.pdf
To ANISH: 1) They have mortgaged a lot of their real-estate to various countries in the Middle East for generating the reqd funds since 2007. 2) About 200. 3) Yes. 4) Yes. 5) Sometime late in the following decade. 6) Why should each Battalion have 100 field artillery howitzers? What matters is when a Battalion is on the offensive it should have fire-support from 100 field artillery howitzers. Hence, what you are assuming & what I’m saying are totally different. 7) In an age of manoeuvre warfare, possessing towed 155mm howitzers is IDIOTIC & instead motorised 155mm MGS should be ordered in larger nos, while towed howitzers should be procured in minimal numbers.
To BENO: 1) It was just a TD, never meant for service-induction. 2) LUH needs to be service-inducted yesterday. Its certificate of airworthiness is long overdue. 3) Anything is possible. 4) Lack of funds. 5) The F-21 will, for sure.

In reality, the TSD was created for operating IMSI-Catcher hardware of this type:
https://phantom-technologies.com/what-is-imsi-catcher/
https://www.thespyphone.com/portable-imsi-imei-catcher/
The mandate was to break the backbone of the separatist leaders, as well as the Valley’s political elites who between 2008 & 2012 (when the so-called Intifada-type civil disobedience began) were running with the hares & hunting with the hounds. Naturally, the best way to ‘domesticate’ such folks was to map out their sources of financial support/fund mobilisation. Hence, IMSI-Cathers were procured to eavesdrop on the cellphone conversations that the targetted subjects were having with their counterparts based in both the Middle East & Southeast Asia. Once everything was uncovered, the crackdown against Valley-based Hawala transaction facilitators began & one also a spurt in the number of facilitators being deported from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia & Thailand. That’s how the GoI also uncovered both the cross-LoC narcotics trade & the under-invoicing practices at the cross-LoC trade facilitation centres that were aimed at generating the funds for sponsoring the Valley’s civil disobedience unrests. But for reasons of political expediency, the TSD’s operations were discontinued between the fall of 2012 & late 2015. The Valley’s then ruling politicians took advantage of this & got back to their old discredited activities that led to the 2016 Intifada & this was crushed only by the IA’s OP ALL OUT, but not permanently. It reqd political backing & this was the MAIN REASON why J & K’s then-existing political practices had to be totally wiped out through the revocation of the provisions of Article 370, 35A & change of status from a State to a UT. Hence, the TSD’s mandate was to only engage in SIGINT/ELINT activities, nothing else. In any case, the IA’s MI Directorate was never & till today is not authorised to run covert operations deep inside any foreign country, since the pre-1999 regulations mandated that the MI’s field intelligence liaison officers could run networks of informants only up to a depth of 10km inside any of India’s geographically contiguous neighbours. Although the IA under Gen K Sundarji wanted this limitation to be extended to a depth of 50km after 1986, this was authorised by the GoI only in 2001. Any covert operation beyond 50km continues to be conducted by R & AW. And finally, deep or long-range covert operations cannot be conducted by a small no of personnel, as exemplified by this special operation conducted by the MOSSAD & IDF MI (AMAN) in Tunisia:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhrgyIiYxx8&t=17s
As for planting IEDs among PA observation posts along the LoC, the IA’s Ghaatak platoons have time & again done this & will continue to do so. Outfits like TSD never engage in such kinetic actions.
To PARTHASARATHY: To obtain a glimpse of the future, one must examine the past, such as:
ReplyDelete1) The CPEC, conceptualised back in 2004, was ready for implementation by 2008. But China had also then realised that by 2025 Pakistan will become a water-scarce country. Hence, CPEC had to be moulded in such a way that Pakistan’s water supplies could be sustained. Hence, China then decided to support Pakistan’s efforts to: A) building dams all over PoK. B) Supporting any effort of Pakistan to become the upper riperian state vis-à-vis India. This could only be achieved if Pakistan had sovereignty over the real-estate through the Indus & Kishanganga Rivers flowed. This is how & why China actively supports Pakistan’s policy of having the cake & eating it as well. Consequently, India’s armed forces got convinced about the COLLUSIVE THREAT posed by the full-spectrum China-Pakistan combine:
2) Consequently, starting from 2007, China began eroding India’s sovereignty over J & K by first beginning to issue stapled visas to those hailing from J & K; & following it up in 2010 by openly stating that J & K is not an integral part of India & hence the LAC’s total length is only 2,000km & not 4,057km as claimed by India:
https://www.gatewayhouse.in/decoding-the-stapled-visa-row/
https://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-sino-indian-border-is-only-2000-km-long-claims-chinese-media-1483372
India then retaliated by: A) refusing to state that TAR is an integral part of China; B) Agreeing to become an active member of the QUAD (Australia, India, Japan & the US); & C) Announcing massive transportation infrastructure upgrade projects in both Eastern Ladakh & Arunachal Pradesh. However, India made a mistake by announcing the creation of the XVII Mountain Strike Corps in April 2011 because: A) no offensive war is ever fought on the mountains. Only defensive operations are viable in high-altitude areas. And that’s because the valleys in mountainous terrain offer the only way for any forward movement of men & material & they therefore are highly vulnerable to interdiction by both airpower & fire-assaults from dominating areas. B) If at all the IA wants to go on the offensive, then such offensive battles will be fought over high-altitude plateaux like the ones prevailing in TAR & PoK. Mountain ranges dot only the LAC & LoC. But once one goes beyond such ranges, only plateaux & plains remain, like the Depsang & Deosai Plains, & the plateaux opposite both northern Sikkim & Eastern Ladakh all the way eastwards up to Lake Mansarovar.
Hence, if the IA wants to go on the offensive with mechanised infantry inside either PoK or TAR, then it will require large numbers of both heavylift & medium-lift helicopters like at least 60 CH-47F Chinooks & up to 120 Mi-17V-5s that are backed up by at least 60 attack helicopters—enough to airlift at least 2 IA Brigades & their combat-support arms (like artillery hardware & personnel, EME personnel/hardware, signals/EW personnel & hardware, & battlefield logistics hardware/personnel) as the forward spearcheads of an invading force. Without such a force composition, any talk of an offense-oriented Mountain Strike Corps is both futile & idiotic. In any case, the name itself is a misnomer, as it should really be called High Altitude Plateau Warfare Corps.

ReplyDeleteSo the Armed Forces recognize the Joint Operations Threat from PAK & PRC. The Men & Material along with strategy or tactics is not available. Maybe Pravin Sawhney talks sense, since Govt. of India has been & continues to be unable to since 1947, unlike the British Empire, failed to control or protect it's areas on interest i.e. POK or TAR. Maybe it's time to talk peace 🙏
Even I agree dear, everyday security people are getting killed in jnk for the sake of keeping pride of jnk with india wo any clear cut plan to sort this mess...better to make peace with Pakistan and focus on health and education and jobs...
DeletePrasunda,
ReplyDelete1) Is'nt 200 a very small number of Brahmos to distribute over 4 regiments, the air force and the navy ?
2) At present, does Pak have an edge as far as conventional deep strike missiles are concerned (given that they have 400 babur missiles) ?
3) What would be the outcome if PRC and Pak precipitate a two front war in the near future ? Would they be able to settle borders in their favour as Praveen Sawhney says they will do ?

Prasun,
ReplyDelete1- all does not seem well between India n Canada..
http://idrw.org/indian-editor-accused-of-espionage-influencing-canadian-politicians-against-khalistanis/#more-225491 ... is this some kind of grudge they hold .. how to put them in place & neutralize the khalistanis
2-its shockingly mornoic if my understanding of what 'mischief' IAF has been upto leading to apache emergency landing.. what is the f*@#g MoD doing abt it?(I never had faith in that Raj... guy comes across as so inept & out of depth) why the hell wud they put the cart before the horse? beats me...btw should not the IAF chief be also held responsible? disn't they get trained in the US. thought that's what is done for the inital batch of pilots
3-Guess the govt read ur concern abt chinese investments in india ---https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/india-steps-up-scrutiny-on-investment-from-china-and-its-neighbours/articleshow/75219816.cms.. better late than never.. but given the pandemic given to the world by china where will the FDI now come from which is so imp for India's growth? the chinese r the only moneybags around
4-Given the insghts you shared abt chinese-paki collusion in J&K .. why is India shying away from more formal engagements with taiwan? esp business deals given their advanced hi-tech industry

ReplyDeleteSir with the adage
"You go to war with the Army you have -- not the Army you might wish you have."
What are our options? I believe 2021 onwards Asia will heat up and there might be a window for POK. .
So what can we do with weapons at hand or will have by 2021-24?
The way i see it, critical systems are still in shortage, mkiA isn't signed, nor are extra mig29 or sukhois.
Budgetary situation will get critical for at least this fiscal and next.
Nor have our military shown any interest in unsolicited offers or even Indian systems that show promise - 6 extra pinaka regts, LUH, LCH.
but yes to third carrier, no compromise on 114 jets, awacs, istar and MRTT on paper or imports cancelled.
So basically can we get POK without ending in stalemate in a quick war? A clear victory as 71 without interference should opportunity knocks?
We won't get close to such a large helicopter fleet in this decade for mountain ops.
Prasunda,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for replying my query. It's very informative.
Just few points are coming in my minds,
1) With all probability the presently the Chinese workers' involvement at CPEC is near to zero. That was also before the outbreak corona-virus. Reason there are hardly any corona-virus patients at POK/Gilgit. But Iran is devasted.
2) Due to devaluation of Pakistani Rs, Pakistan will find very difficult to repay Chinese loans.I have noticed that in last year the electricity rate is not increased much even at Pakistani Rs. ( http://www.hesco.gov.pk/htmls/tariffs.htm ) That is why the electricity cost in USD term is one of the cheapest in the world. Much cheaper than India too. So from where the money for building so may thermal power plants with Sindh's coal will come from ? My guess Pakistan has stopped repayment of Chinese loan.
3. It's not only Pakistan, many other OBOR countries are also in big debt. How they are paying is anyone's guess. (https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/geopolitics/article/3007918/chinas-belt-and-road-extends-kyrgyzstan-are-new-transport)
4. So still the virus dust settled, China has to take some hair cut on her OBOR loans.
Just for your info,
Not only Pakistan produce ' Hydroxycholoroquine'( Bayer's Karachi Plant ) , to be in good book of Mr. Trump they are giving it free. ( https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-bayer-chloroquine/exclusive-fda-may-have-dropped-standards-too-far-in-hunt-for-chloroquine-to-fight-coronavirus-sources-idUSKBN21Y2LO)
Again thanking you for answering my query so elaborately,
Best regards.
Sir, will the govt place new order for more K-9 Vajra guns? PA has 400 M-109 self propelled guns so i believe we need a lot more. Also you once said that India has not ordered K-10 reloading vehicles so how will Vajras operate without them?
ReplyDeleteSDR for iaf aircraft has been ordered or yet pending sir??? Any progress towards two way data link procurement for iaf platforms?? Also how would the aircraft communicate when they are not in Line of sight of each other or ground stations currently and in future??
ReplyDeleteDoes Tejas have enuf power avl in current config to mount El/M 2060 P type SAR pods or even ASPJ /ESCORT JAMMER??
Why IAF/HAL is still hesitating for standardization of weapons and avionics onboard Tejas MK 1A???
To PARTHASARATHI: VMT. 1) Not quite, some Chinese workers are presently hospitalised in Islamabad after they tested positive for COVID-19 after returning back to work after the Lunar New Year holidays. 2) All public utility bills have been increasing in Pakistan every quarter. And due to the devaluation of the Pakistan Rs, there is no other option but to delay the implementation of several CPEC-related projects, like the creation of industrial SEZs. 3) Unfortunately, they will all end up like Sri Lanka. 4) BRI/OBOR will witness large-scale losses & will hit China’s economy especially hard.
ReplyDeleteTo AYUSH: Since the suspension of coalition support funds in 2018, Pakistan’s armed forces have been hard-pressed to pay for spares of all US-origin military hardware & hence all such hardware is rarely used even during exercises. Instead, only China-origin hardware is being made use of. But regardless of all this, the IA needs to invest on highly land-mobile & air-mobile field artillery assets like 155mm UFH & MGS if at all it wants to wage manoeuvre warfare on both the low-lying plains & high-altitude plateaux. In addition, 155mm projectiles equipped with laser seekers (to replace the Krasnopol rounds acquired in the year 2000) are also urgently reqd, along with the Para (SF) being equipped with backpack SATCOM comms units & hand-held laser target illuminators/designators.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWBCkoMvoJ0
To KAUSTAV: I will explain what went wrong until 2014 & how in 2015 the necessary course-corrections were initiated. One will of course take note that all talk about the Mountain Strike Corps (MSC) has stopped, especially after the 2017 Doklam standoff with China. A major re-orientation is now underway & there were some hints last September when EX Changthang Prahar was conducted in eastern Ladakh.
To SATYAKI: 1) Only 200 BrahMos-1 as of now. Total orders placed to date exceed 2,000. 2) Not at all. The IN, for instance, already possesses 200 Novator 3M-14 SSK-launched Klub land-attack cruise missiles. 3) Not quite, and that’s why the QUAD was created & formalised, especially the meetings between the Foreign & Defence Ministers of the countries that make up the Quad.
To JUST_CURIOUS: As I had stated before, India has not been sidelined at all:
https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/khalilzad-reaches-out-to-jaishankar-on-troubled-afghan-peace-process/story-4AKXLb2jNbr6eBqVDhIrJK.html
1) It is a civil suite & is not govt-initiated. 2) Certain long-prevailing bad habits indeed take a very long time to change. 3) It will come from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, the UK & the US. 4) The re-think has already begun, not just inside India, but also worldwide.
To AD: It is just a precautionary step aimed at blocking the back-door entry of China-based OEMs through third-countries like Singapore.
To VSJ: All the more reason for adopting practical/common-sensical policy initiatives, such as not licence-building foreign-origin weapons, but instead buying them off-the-shelf while at the same time utilising the money saved for investing in homegrown platforms like the MWF, 155mm/52cal Dhanush 52 MGS, Kalyani Group’s 4 x 4 155mm/39-cal MGS, SSNs derived from the S-2/Arihant SSBN’s hull design, HAL-built LCH & LUH, and air-launched/warship-launched/submarine-launched versions of Nirbhay cruise missile, to name a few. As for PoK, a lot depends on the sentiments of the subjects living there, i.e. whether or not they are at last ready to dump Pakistan once & for all.

1) By when will the 2000 ordered Brahmos missiles be operational? How many baburs will Pak have at that stage?
2) Is'nt the QUAD a loose alliance as of now? How would that help in the event of a direct military assault ?
3) How game changing are PRCs advances in AI, quantum communications, etc.? Will they be able to prosecute a next generation war due to their lead in these fields?
4) The recent DRDO newsletter mentioned a Agni 5 stage 3 test by ACEM to qualify the propellant. Is this likely to be an upgraded stage with more energetic propellant than before ?
Satyaki
To AMIT BISWAS: 1) had already answered that a week ago (Tejas Mk.1A, Jaguar IS/DARIN-3 getting BNET-A). The MRCAs then better ensure that they remain in LoS coverage. 2) Tejas Mk.1A will have EL/L-8222 ASPJ & RecceLite pod. Tejas Mk.1A weapons qualification will be a seamless process requiring very little time since the weapons management computer is indigenous & hence software integration via MIL-STD-1760A data-bus is very easily done (just as it will be with upgraded Super Su-30MKIs). And it looks like the DRDO & OFB have somehow pounced upon the IPRs of the 155mm projectile’s precision-guidance kit (PGK) developed by US-based OEM Orbital ATK, judging by these:

2) In the event of a direct military assault by China, the QUAD will transform into an iron-clad alliance. Will China risk it? 3) Not quite. China is still 80 years behind the US in such arenas. Till to date, China has not even managed to develop DSRVs meant for rescuing submarine crews. 4) Not just propellant, but also fuel storage tanks made of lightweight composites.

2. Which Indian Radars are actually foreign made/ designed ones? And, source country?

Is indian policy maker serious enough for necessary reforms to transform indian economic stature and its billion people in prosperity..
Is Indian armed forces thinking to induct C17 C130 chinuk in greater quantity for strategic airlift..
To AD: 1, 2 3 & 4): All such hardware was/is being designed in India. But those DRDO personnel doing such work were trained since the 1960s in the UK, US & Germany.
ReplyDeleteTo RAD: That’s why to ensure deterrence against Babur LACMs, the BrahMos-1s have been inducted into service. I was told at DEFEXPO-2020 by ADE officials that for unknown reasons the DRDO HQ has been unable to market the Nirbhay to the MoD in a way that BrahMos Aerospace has been able to. There’s no need for TSD since the NTRO now handles all such activities.
To RON: All answers are available in this documentary:

It was Taiwan that first alerted the world on December 31 last year on the possibility of this virus transitioning from Bats to humans. More deaths are occurring in those countries that have a large proportion of elderly citizens as they are most vulnerable to this virus.
To UNKNOWN/JB: Most unlikely, since certain DRDO-affiliated laboratories will claim that they too can do such R & D work without any foreign collaboration. Back in the previous decade, the Chandigarh-based CSIO had claimed that it was developing a fly-by-wire flight control system for the Dhruv ALH, but till today it has not surfaced anywhere.
To THE ENGDOC SOCIETY: 1) Contract was placed with BAE Systems through the US military’s FMS channel. 2) Yes. Vulcano cannot be ordered until Italy’s Leonardo Group remains blacklisted by the MoD. 3) Not reqd. The existing nos of MiG-29Ks are enough for the 2 aircraft carriers. 4) No use speculating when the figures are already available from sources like Godrej & Boyce, which was contracted in 1999 for supplying 110 BrahMos-1 airframes between 2003 & 2017. Similarly, here is the figure for BrahMos-A:
https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/godrej-aerospace-delivers-first-of-100-airframes-for-brahmos-1909444
5) BrahMos-1/Onyx/Yakhont/Bastion are all one & the same/ Only the BrahMos-A onwards will the DRDL-developed X-band imaging SAR seeker (made by both ECIL & Data Patterns) be made use of for all versions of BrahMos-1. 6) Akash-1’s ramjets were re-engineered from the ramjets of the 3M9M1 missile used by the 2K12 Kub/Kvadrat SAM system that the IA had acquired in the 1980s. 7) Hypersonic BrahMos-2 will come sometime in the following decade. Prior to that the lighter & smaller BrahMos-NG will have to be developed.

To EVERYONE: Have uploaded the text & slides above to explain the pros & cons of using PGK-equipped field artiilery projectiles and MBRL-launched rockets, and why the NLOS-SS-BSM is the optimum solution for counter-artillery bombardments. Hence, if at all the PRANAASH variant of PRAHAR is to be developed for conventional usage, then it needs to have a re-engineered airframe body resembling that of the Chunmoo/KTSSM.
ReplyDeleteTo BUDDHA: Hilarious photo of the MoD’s top decision-makers meeting yesterday in that news-report. What will the world think when it sees each of those personalities wearing a different type of face-mask? No standardisation even for face-masks, leave alone military hardware???

To SATYAKI: The disinterest exists because the ‘desi’ turbofan for Nirbhay has yet to emerge. At DEFEXPO-2020 no one from GTRE could answer what is so difficult to develop a turbofan that will be used only once in its lifetime.

ReplyDeleteCan you write a blog on Gen Zorawar Singh please?
ReplyDeleteHi prasun
i really dont understand the reluctance of MOD towards the Nirbhay. After all russia will supply us the m-36 turbo fan engine as we are in the mctr . Even then is not so important for the country`s defence to make cost effective crusie misisles like pakistan .
what ever happened to the desi manik engine that was supposd to power the nirbhay?
The last 6th trail,of the nirbhay seems to be ok as it flew at low level and touched all the pre progammed way points. How much of that is true? If so .
what about pakis raad missile programe does it continue or stopped , is denel still helping them out? i suspect so as the msissiles failed and need re testing .
will china allow he raad to be integrated on the jf-17 as proposed?
I hear the jf-17 has got a 2 channel FBW sysytem on the block 3 along with the existing
4 channel FBW in pitch which is gong to make it as agile as the LCA.? what is more perplexing is aerodynamicaly how can a fighter that has been built for normal stable flight be converted into an unstable aircraft ? As the center of lift has to move forward of CG to be unstable.?How can it be done without a total redesign? I remmeber BAE made a FBW jaguar by adding ballast etc.
godrej boyce is making nirbhay 110 missile in 14 yeras ? some thing fishy . I would only comconclude the figures are classified?
the navy has a lot of mig 29k, and the desi carrier is along time away form induction . In case of war it is prudent that the remaining are moved to IAF bases to join the fight . have the naval pilots been trained for that?

To RAD & AMIT BISWAS: A turbofan to be used only once in its service-life can be built with 3-D printing in a matter of days. But when it refuses to surface, then what can we conclude about the HTFE-25 turbofan or HTSE-1200 turboshaft? Absolutely embarrassing & utterly shameful that the Manik or Laghu Shakti turbofans have been shown since 2015 at various expos, but their flight-tests are still being awaited.

Bankrupt Pakistan Hires Propaganda Lawyers In Middle East To Poke India.
ReplyDeletehttps://news-communique.com/index.php/2020/04/19/bankrupt-pakistan-hires-propaganda-lawyers-in-middle-east-to-poke-india/
Large scale Anti India propaganda is currently going on in middle East and is unfortunately supported by Indian Islamists. Check out the replies to this tweet: https://mobile.twitter.com/DrAlshoreka/status/1251540465549221888
How will this impact India GCC relationship given that we were recently able to corner Pakistan in these countries.
To ANIK: But one must also take note of various types of irrational & unparliamentary tweets that have emanated from certain parliamentarians & politicians from Karnataka. These foul-mouths from Karnataka for the past few years seem hell-bent upon not only making a mockery of the law of the land, but also go out of their way to embarrass India. Such tweets would have gone unnoticed if anyone else would have made them, but when ruling politicians make such tweets or statements, it gets noticed & highlighted worldwide. Hence, some urgent house-cleaning is now called for.
ReplyDeleteDear Sir,
ReplyDeleteAnother excellent thread. I have the following questions on their systems:
1. It was reported that BABUR II failed in another test. Could you shed some light on what is going on? Are they trying to extend its range, new engine, etc? There is also a naval version of BABUR. Is it true that it is being fitted on to PN ships/new subs? Is this system the tip of their spear and how to couter it? How much of this is made in Pakiland?
2. How many RAAD I does PAF have? When will they start production of RAAD II, which they test earlier this year? What percentage of these are actually made in Pakiland? (is it true that these have some sort of stealth coating?)
3. It is said that NASR system is based on WS-2, but its stated range is only 70km, is this ture or does it have the same range as WS-2 of 3-400km? How much of this is being made in Pakiland?
4. How many A-300 do they have? It was in their press that all missiles are being manufactured in Pakiland? There was also a report that they are working with Turkey to produce sensor fused munition for these. There are also reports that they are working on V2 of this system in-house. Your thoughts on the possiblility of this?
5. What is the current status of their HATF 1B BRBMs? How many are in service?
Thank you,
RAT

Prasunda,
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the main reason of so much sudden anti-India sentiment is not Pakistan but corona virus and India's recent decision to buy American crude.
It is not that anti India propaganda is anything new at Gulf Papers. One lady anchor from NDTV is a regular contributor to a Dubai based news paper. And she was not doing any favour to India. ( https://gulfnews.com/world/asia/india/covid-19-and-now-it-is-corona-jihad-in-narendra-modis-hate-filled-new-india-1.1586764709554 ) But so far they were overlooking it due to business relation ship. India was one of the biggest crude oil customer.
But recently the crude oil price is plummeted due to corona virus related economic turbulence and India also not buying as much crude oil as before. Mainly to reduce the trade gap with America. So Gulf countries are not happy. Particularly Saudi and UAE. are main contributor to India's crude oil pool.
Previously Essar was also buying from gulf but after taking over by Russians they are now started buying Russian crude.
And above all the some MP's tweet is not doing any good. They may be tweeting as a personal capacity but as they are with Government, so outsiders take it as Government tweet.
Best regards

ReplyDeleteDoes Arab back lash will hurt much deeper to the Indians living and earning abroad mainly in arab
And will it help pakistan
I can't believe some readers here are worried about the Arabs. How terribly we underestimate ourselves as a nation. Not a single Arab leader would say a word against India. Yet It's become a topic of discussion merely because some Arab twitter handles posted against India. Bhai abhi hamare itne bure din nahi aaye hai hi hum inn arabo se ghabrane lage.
DeleteDear Prasun,
ReplyDeleteAccording to you which is the in-house product that has been designed, developed, and produced in India that is upto your satisfaction.
Further, can DRDO develop pylon based MAWS and ASPJ? Does it have the required intelligent workforce?
You are right Prasun da. Idiots like Tejaswi need to be kicked out of parliament.
ReplyDeleteOther thing of great concern is pakistani involvement in social media campaign. As of now #islamophobia_in_india is trending #1 worldwide and many of these tweets are by handles based in Pakistan.
It cannot be a co-incidence that what Imran Khan was tweeting after 5 August is now being propagated in Gulf countries. Also doxxing of Indians based in gulf appears to be a plan of someone who is not happy with our relation with GCC. Have they caught GoI napping? What can be the future course of action for GoI?
To RAT: 1) The Babur GLCM continues to fail because it was never designed for vertical launch. In fact, the Babur is a clone of the DF-10A GLCM that is launched from an inclined launcher, as shown here:
ReplyDeletehttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/EWJK1S8U4AAUU1y?format=jpg&name=large
2) Not more than 100. None of them were made in Pakistan & as an ALCM it has been a failure. Logically, an air-launched, shorter version of the Babur would have been a better prospect. 3) had already explainhed it here:
https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2019/09/china-developed-long-range-tnw-armed.html
4) The same no as the IA’s Smerch-M MBRLs, i.e. 2 Regiments, or 36 TELs. 5) They were discarded long ago. 5) Malaysia has already made up with India through the new Malaysian PM Tan Sri Muhyideen Yasin & India has since reciprocated by quietly withdrawing the high tarrifs she had earlier imposed on Malaysian Palm Oil imports. Pakistan cannot supply such tablets simply because the chemicals & intermediates reqd for their production are all sourced from India & for the past several months Pakistan has banned their imports from India. This is the real situation inside Pakistan today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIDqQHltLs4
To PARTHASARATHI: Not true at since, since India is already buying oil from the UAE to boost its strategic crude reserves. The only reason, as I had explained yesterday, is that these wretched MPs from Karnataka are going overboard & they are not only an insult to India, but they also bring dishonour upon their parents by displaying their lack of cultured upbringing. In fact, such MPs do not even belong to the same human species as the rest of us do. And that lady is not an NDTV anchor now, but a freelance journalist & her rants are of no consequence to anyone in the real world.
To BUDDHA: The backlash was correct & just, for it came ONLY AFTER certain Indian MPs hailing from Karnataka went overboard in total disregard of their constitutional responsibilities. Left to me, I would have castrated such retards long ago. It also thus appears that either the Indian PM or the President of the BJP are unable to control their MPs—a very bad sign of loss of command-n-control.The royal families, especially from the UAE, have always regarded India as their second home & since the 1970s they always spend time in places like Mumbai, Daman & Diu on extended vacations because they always like to enjoy the monsoon season in India & hence when they highlight anything that brings India into disrepute, it means they too feel bad about it & do not want India to step into the wrong directions & hence any well-meaning Indian citizen ought to welcome their opinions & advice.
To ASD: All the ones that were mentioned earlier by AD. DRDO can only design such hardware. Development includes engineering methodologies that the DARE can achieve through participation by Indian industry.
To ANIK, KAPIL & PRATAP: All this will pass, but what will not pass is the sordid behaviour of some MPs of the BJP hailing from Karnataka, who from time to time have become serial national embarrassments for India. The BJP must now ensure that such MPs tender an immediate & unconditional apology, citing temporary mental disorders due to the extended lockdowns as the reason for their unwarranted outbursts.
The first 24 of 600 VT-4 (MBT-3000 model) MBTs made by the Baotou-based Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO), will arrive by sea at Karachi by May 10, 2020 after setting sail from Guangzhou. i dont understand the logic of pak to buy tanks at this juncture whenthey are broke for 2bill$? though it suits china to ensnare pak deeper . where is this funds coming from?
how do you rate this new tank / this looks good with all the modern sensors and era?
In you r opinion should we go ahead with nirbhay with a russian engine as all basic parameters have been met?
yo u mentioned that the the raad was not made in Pak , so i assume they were all made in S africa by denel?. Are som e of them nuclear tipped?.How many typed of RAAD do they have and what are the equal in denel products?
can you high light the FBW capability on the JF-17?
Hello Prasun, et al, all the outrage about the Karnataka BJP MPs comments on twitter, I suppose people should understand the prevalent scenario in coastal Karnataka. I happen to travel through Kodagu (Coorg) up to Ullal (border town to Kerala) where the religion of peace people openly blocking roads (like anywhere in Kerala) to preach their religion. The demography of the places are changed and without this timely action, one could see places up to Bhaktal ceded to Kerala like Kasargod, Kannangod lost. The reason for their belligerence is the money that comes from gulf region by cleaning toilets. One needs to visit Malabar region to understand the density of mosques; anyways for the enlightened, Momoto Bunurjee the patron in chief of land of milk and honey has given all people free pass to move around freely; my cook from Digha confirms this. Regarding the towel heads lesser told is better; need to humor them but not take them seriously, they might want more hunting sessions in Pakistan to soothe their twitter worked up nerves. India is better off keeping the internal politics internal. Nobody objected what Maunmohan Singh as Prime minister told - "Muslims have first right on all Indian resources"; showing the place to people where they belong is required
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ganesh
To HARSH: LoLz! Haven't you wondered as yet why China is not revealing how many PLA personnel have been infected with the virus?
ReplyDeleteTo RAD: Funds have come from real-estates mortgaged by Pakistan to China. The MBT-3000/VT-4 does not come even close to the T-90S in terms of mobility/firepower/protection parameters. Any homegrown cruise missile must have both 'desi' propulsion system & navigation/terminal guidance avionics. Ra'ad isn't carrying any nuclear warheads, rest assured. About the JF-17, do browse through this:
https://www.pac.org.pk/jf-17
To GANESH: How is any religion to be blamed for the attitudinal/behavioural problems exhibited by India's natives? If -ve belligerence prevails, then the shortcomings of the successive Govts of India in terms of both educational curriculum & social norm prescriptions. Why should any religion or Arabas be blamed for India's shortcomings? These are the questions that never get answered due to whataboutry/whataboutism.
Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your answers. I found your link on NASR really interesting and very valuable souce of information. How many of these does PA have? (You mentioned that they have 18 at Sialkot in the article). Are these for TNW only or can/will they be used to target deep into India with conventional munition, considering they are mobile systems? Also do you know why the launcher is different between what China/NK show and what PA showed?
Final point, China is really screwing us!
RAT
Dear Prasun,
ReplyDelete1.GoI ready to deal with terrorists infected with COVID-19 who are about to infiltrate into J n K? Instead of killing them in our soil, isn't it good to eliminate them by punitive attacks as you suggest once in a week. This is how we can thwart it.
2. Further as per your assessment, are you happy with the center tackling the pandemic. Or could it be handled in a better way?
3. In your answer to Ganesh, I agree with you partially. As even you have seen, that despite of education too muslims remain radicalized. They never put country before religion. As suggested by you even if educational curriculum is responsible, still you will find Hindu majority are nationalistic despite of being many uneducated. Hindu community can put country before religion; but you can't expect the same from muslim community. Further in case of reformation, you see Hindu community is progressive. Bali pratha is almost nil now except few in Assam etc. Even in Durga Puja too I have seen on Dashami bottle gourd etc. are cut; not any beasts.
But can you expect reformation from muslim community? Hell no. Or a very very very very slowwwww process. Just think about FGM case. Better to ignore it. My conclusion is that muslims will always be anti-national as usual.
I've just put my thought openly and I know it's half knowledge. I want to know yours. As you have a realistic and a close look upon religiosity, please enlighten me.

To RAT: The Nasr/Hatf-9 MBRLs are only for TNW fire-assaults. For conventional fire-assaults, the A-100 MBRLs are used. The DPRK wanted cannisters of different design, (rounded, not square ones). China is screwing Pakistan, not India. On the contrary, investments have begun pouring into India:

To ASD: LoLz! Time & time again it gets proven that the average Indian citizen lacks a scientific temperament. 1) Just ask yourself what exactly will be the lifespan of a COVID-19 infected Pak terrorist. And who inside J & K will provide shelter to such entities? Hence, do not fall for unscientific statements from anyone. 2) Always get the fundamentals right. For instance, nationalism prevails only in occupied territories/countries. After any country attains independence, nationalism gets replaced with proud patriotism. Hence, all those IDIOTS/MORONS who nowadays describe themselves as being nationalistic have not clue about what they’re talking about. Although the so-called ‘Hindu’ communities are socio-economically upward-mobile, they still have elements of bigotry & superstitions within them (i.e. belief systems) that prevent the emergence of & respect for a scientific temperament. In other words, there’s no one who can claim to be ‘Holier Than Thou’ & hence the only solution for this dilemma is more & more & more education. Nothing more & nothing less.
To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) The CM-400AKG is still undergoing development inside China. 2) Yes, India despatched a testing centre by air last month itself. 3) Why does India present such opportunities to the OIC?
To RAD: There won’t be any LCA Mk.2. It has now morphed into the heavier & longer MWF. Yes, the MWF will be both agile & net-centric. Have you noticed that Zakir Naik seems to have disappeared from the face of the Earth? There’s no word about his whereabouts. About the Karnataka MP, do read this:

To MOHAN: You will have the answers in the following thread.
To VIKRAM GUHA: 1) It’s not design work, merely fabrication work. MDSL can begin assembling the fabricated sections of the hull within 12 months & the entire hull will be ready for launch within 18 months. 2) No, it wasn’t reqd.
