The
RFP for building 16 anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft (ASW-SWC) to be
built to an Indian design was issued in April 2014.
It was in December 2017
that Cochin Shipyard Ltd’s (CSL) offer (based on a warship design provided by Vik Sandvik Design India Pvt
Ltd) was selected as the L-12 bid, with the L-2 bid coming from Kolkata-based Garden
Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE).
The following year, India’s Ministry
of Defence decided that both CSL and GRSE would share the cake by each building eight of the
ASW-CWCs.
While CSL estimates its orders
for the eight vessels to be worth Rs.5,400 crore, the contract inked yesterday
with GRSE is worth Rs.6,311.32 crore.
The
first ASW-SWC is slated for delivery by GRSE within 42 months of
contract signature, following which two vessels will be delivered every year.
Scheduled project completion period is 84 months. The contract with CSL was inked on April 30.
In a Sea Acceptance Test (SAT)
performed by the Israeli Navy in early February 2018, a L-3 Ocean
Systems-developed Helicopter Long-Range Active Sonar (HELRAS) dipping sonar was
successfully converted for operation onboard the Elbit Systems-developed Seagull
unmanned surface vessel (USV), which is represented in India by GRSE. Operating
a dipping sonar on-board a USV significantly increases the operational
working time and substantially enhances that detection capabilities and the
effectiveness of ASW. The Seagull autonomous multi-mission USV features
switchable, modular mission payload suites and can perform, in addition to ASW,
mine countermeasures missions (MCM), electronic warfare (EW), maritime security
(MS), hydrography and other missions using the same vessel, mission-control
system and data-links. The Seagull USV thus offers navies a true force-multiplier
by delivering enhanced performance to naval operations, reducing risk to human
life and dramatically reducing procurement and operating costs.
The 42-month period timeframe given
for the rollout of the first ASW-SWC is awfully long, considering that the
vessel will displace only 750 tonnes. This in turn indicates that the Indian Navy
has not yet decided on the fitment of various sensors and weapon systems due to
go on board the vessels—this being also the case with all warships designed to
date by the Indian Navy’s Naval Design Bureau.
This consequently has led to
only 33% of a warship’s superstructure being floated at launch-time (usually
within a three-year period), while the
rest of the superstructure takes more than five years to be completed, thereby
leading to prohibitive cost-overruns and highly visible compromises in build-quality. For this, the Indian Navy, and not the DPSU shipyards, is primarily to be
blamed and held accountable.
Hi sir. What about the air defense of these ship? Ain't we gonna give these ships Air defense missiles? And in case if we will arm these with air defense missiles! Could they be our qrsam( navalised version )
ReplyDelete@Prasun, Why delay in signing the order with L1 bidder CSL ?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
S Nair
ReplyDeletehi prasun
why on earth do they take 48 months for a small ship?.ie positively speaking > Havent they learnt a lesson so far after so many late overruns on all ships? is the navy also to blame??
They have to have the atlas towed sonar along with the APSOH. Is the latter contemporary ?
what about the total integration of the sensors and weapons into a CMS?
is it planned to have the varunastra ?
where will these type of small ships operate within the fleet?
how true is the report of the IIR version of the astra??
why on earth does the drdo take 1 year to make a nirbhay missile after each test? it is exasperatingly slow. what protocols do other maker follow for quick testing. what should be done ?
after russia won the deal to supply Igla-s sam can it b elatered to get the next gen VERBA missile which would be future proof . MBDA says the igla did not meet some specs , what are they?
Why will Submarines Remain in Shallow Waters
ReplyDeleteAre these Ships Ineffective in Deep Sea
Shallow waters means near the Coast
So will these Ships move Close to Pakistani Coast
Hi Prasunji
ReplyDeleteWhy does the navy takes such a long time to decide on Payload and sensors. How can they decide on a design without associated weapons and sensors.
What are standardizing practices of Indian Navy to reduce costs and time overuns.
Thanks & Regards
Hardik Thanki
CSL also got the contract today. Will both the shipyards make the vessels according to two separate designs?
ReplyDeleteDada so P17A will sport flush deck? Will it also have Nirbhay and Brahmos both?
ReplyDelete@prasun da
ReplyDelete1. i have this feeling that with India pressing for Masood Azhar's terrorist tag and China continuing with a hold this time too we may see another Depsang 2013 like incident where China would like to pressure India on a climb down
2. why cant IA use hovercrafts in barren lands of Ladakh & Aksai Chin
3. The Kalyani groups ULH is 155 mm or 105 mm of 39 calibre, i think a MGS version of this on a 4 x 4 will be a true force multipler
4. i think IAF should operate atleast 6 MI-26 Helo not only bcoz of their enormous 20 ton capacity but also bcoz it can carry 1 or 2 ULH M777 inside its belly , btw will we see the 3 currently we have in air ever (just 1 is flying)
5. mr. i me myself said i bombed terrorist in balakot but whatever the shouting seems India doesnt have any foreign policy of its own and is meekly following US line, evidence India has been kept out of Aghan peace talks, despite goodwill
thanks

Yeah sir that's Himalayan snowman, hope v get to see it's real photos n videos soon officially by army or any other competent organisation...
ReplyDeleteQuestion is k, what u say about this interview of team Nirbhay missile with Ananth Krishana M of tarmak007...
(1) Tessy Thomas is claiming achieving 5m sea skimming sustained flight... How did they managed it??
Is it coz since it flew without seeker completely on internal pre-programmed flight path, it managed 5m sea skimming capacity?? What instrument did they used to maintain n manage it??
2) they r clearly seen Saying Manik being used on it within an year, so is it gonna use some low cost single use version??
3) regarding this ASW-SWC thread, it's a great one sir,fully self explanatory...👌👌
Only thing I am curious to know, y don't we go for smart designing approach?? I mean to say that y don't we arm our ships with more amount of weaponry making weapons handling systems automatic or even using max possible space to arm the ship??

To HIMANSHU: None of that has been decided as yet, i.e. the final design configuration is still awaited—the usual problem bthat’s been prevailing since the 1990s.
ReplyDeleteTo S NAIR: That contract was inked yesterday.
To RADHA/RAD: Simply because the final design configuration is still awaited, i.e. only nowe the DAC will convene & start approving the processes of competitively selecting the CMS, propulsion system, weaponry & accessories like RHIBs, etc etc. ATAS isn’t used for shallow water ASW sweeps. Instead, Seagull-type USVs equipped with dipping sonar (see the slides above) are far more effective. Astra-1 with IIR sensor is not workable, since the IIR-guided SRAAM is for all-aspect AAM engagements, whereas BVR engagements do not involve all-aspect targeting/vectoring. The Igla-S contract also involves upgrading the IAF’s & IA’s existing Igla-1s into Igla-S configuration.
To ARUN: These ASW-SWCs will be used for guarding the approaches & channel entrances that exist throughout the Indian coastline. Thus, they will be used for protecting not just naval bases, but also commercial shipping ports.
To HARDIK THANKI: Why? I can only assume that this is a long-standing BAD HABIT that refuses to die, & an obstinate mindset.
To ANKIT KUMAR: Yes.
To SUMIT SEN: It will have BrahMos-1s, not any Nirbhay LACMs.
To JOYDEEP GHOSH: 1) Not possible, since the enire Depsang Plain is now under UAV surveillance 24/7 & therefore the PLA has lost the element of surprise. 2) Because there’s not enough air & no air-cushioning is possible. 3) Kalyani Group has developed a truck-mounted 105mm light gun but the 155mm howitzers will be towed & heliborne as well. 4) Mi-26T cannot operate with such loads at altitudes that the CH-47FI can. Also, Mi-26T is much more expensive to operate, i.e. 100 man-hours of maintenance per flying hour, whereas the CH-47FI & AW-101 require only 40 man-hours of maintenance.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: There are many strange creatures at those high altitudes that still remain to be uncovered. Some of them may even be humanoid robots, as revealed in this report:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/nation/story/20121112-ufo-seen-in-ladakh-jammu-and-kashmir-by-indian-army-itbp-760402-2012-11-02
The interview of ADE officials was FARCICAL at best, since it conveyed a very wrong methodology of data presentation, as illustrated by the short & halting answers of the ADE officials that outwardly convey a lack of confidence & self-esteem, i.e. totally losing the information warfare domain. I have NEVER seen any official from any country provide descriptions of weapon systems in such an insecure manner. Answers & presentations must also be given with confidence & conviction. 1) Her statements were hilarious, i.e. cruising at an altitude of 5 metres ASL, but for how long & up to what distance? And cruising below treetop-level??? What does that mean??? In that case, the enemy won't require any AAA to shoot down such LACMs since the trees will take care of the job of destroying the LACMs!!! That is why I always say that the devil always lurks within the details & one must think 10 TIMES before opening one’s mouth to make outlandish claims! Mazekakhez baton se door rehna chahiye. Altitude can always be maintained through the use of a radio altimeter integrated with an autopilot. 2) X-band terminal seeker is only for the last 20nm of the flight, i.e. terminal stage, be it in sea-skimming mode or top-attack mode. And while the ADE officials were explaining what digital scene co-relation was, the interviewer showed his stupidity by butting in & claiming that this was DSMAC!!! Digital scene co-relation is all about all-passive terminal-homing that's used by PGMs of the SPICE family, while DSMAC is only about long-range navigation using passive optronic sensors when GPS guidance was not in vogue. 3) Manik & Laghu Shakti are one & the same turbofan & so far no one from GTRE has stated through posters & brochures that the Manik/Laghu Shakthi will be the Nirbhay’s definitive powerplant. This is what powers a long-range LACM:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/23/Williams_Research_F107.jpg
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/Williams_Research_F112-WR-100.jpg/1024px-Williams_Research_F112-WR-100.jpg
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_44d3OT-xI3U/SR78B79U2-I/AAAAAAAAAaw/eKftpAbnI_Q/s1600/36MT+turbofan.jpg
And this is how Manik looks till today: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-K2OtMCAAAbeg7.jpg
Even if we are to assume that a derivative of the Manik will become the Nirbhay’s definitive powerplant, the absence of any detailed engineering drawing or mock-up of such a derivative at expos like Aero India & DEFEXPO only indicates that such a turbofan will not be available for at least another 2 years at the very least for flight-tests. Had a workable, fully-engineered derivative existed, then by now it would have been exhibited, just like HAL’s HTFE-25 turbofan & HTSE-1200 have been since 2016.
The only new visual shown in the interview was that of the air-launched Nirbhay, sporting an extended belly-mounted air-intake snout (meaning it won't have an expendable first-stage rocket booster).
So, if you really want to know all about the Nirbhay LACM, then I suggest you go through this:

Hi Prasunji
ReplyDeleteUS has said that due to bialateral nature of US-Pakistan F16 deal it cannot provide India with specific details asked by India on Pakistani use of F16 on February 27. Hi prasun
ReplyDeleteis SAAW a standard PGM like spice 250 or a EMP emitting PGM.

ReplyDeleteTo HOODS007: Yes, the SAAW is an EMP-emitting Spice-250 PGM. Only attacfk helicopters with fire-control radars are the AH-64E Apaches. The news-report refers to the 6 AH-64Es destined for the IA. The 'desi patrakaar' misunderstood all that was said & discussed at a seminar yesterday on 'Army Firepower & manoeuvre' that was organised by CLAWS.
To HARDUK THANKI: The Foreign Policy 'expose' was FAKE NEWS.
To VED: The MAREEM AQIP module is still undergoing endurance tests. The Varunastra HWT is only on the P-15A/P-15B DDGs. The Scorpenes all have THALES-supplied hull-mounted cylindrical-array sonar suites.

China is under severe pressure due to its activities inside Xinjiang & even Russia this time refrained from supporting the Chinese PoV. This has nothing to do with any tradeoff WRT FATF. The FATF is all about ensuring compliance with its regulations, & failure to do so will make Pakistan end up in the black-list by this September. This in tyrn will affect the higher education abroad of all the children of Pakistan’s ruling class, especially the senior officers of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Meanwhile, the same mistakes keep getting repeated:

There is no contract between FORCE & myself, but gentlemanly code of conduct demands that I refrain from immediately uploading those articles that appear in the current editions of the magazine. Nor is there any need to do a comparative analysis of MRCAs of the IAF & PAF. So then why does IN persist with Ak630? Can't we move on to a missile based CIWS like mica VL?
2) Can Barak 1 defeat supersonic anti ship missiles like the Chinese yj12?
3) Why didn't IN get missiles for the kashtan on the first batch project 11356? You said IN was very dissatisfied with kashtan performance but it was not armed with missiles on batch 1 11356, just Guns.
4) What is difference in performance between kashtan and sosna CIWS?
5) Any chance of retrofitting either kashtan or sosna with missiles on project 11356, on either side of the hangar? Is there enough under deck space available for storing missiles?
6) Have any of the ATAS sonar equipped Delhi or talwar class reentered service with IN after refit? If not when will they arrive?
7) What is the max range for mf star radar on kolkata class?
8) How does MF star compare with radar on Chinese type 052d?

To DASHU: Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar who had been shifted by the Pakistan Army from Rawalpindi CMH hospital to Goth Ganni, Bahawalpur, after February 14, is now lodged in an Islamic seminary in Sheikhupura, Gujrawala, around 300km from Islamabad. Interestingly, Azhar last week visited and stayed in Athmuqam, a major camping town for terror groups, in Neelam Valley near the Line of Control at the same time as the PA’s COAS was visiting the ‘Azad Kashmir’ Regimental Centre:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCwqmv94zEo
Just four days ago, he stayed with the Pakistan Army in Jura town of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, over 100km northeast of Islamabad. Azhar had gone there to discuss the future of his outfit and persuade the Pakistan Army to allow his cadres, who are now members of Al Badr, the new name of the JeM.
In addition, several Frontier Force Regiment’s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzmHRr2HG1k) detachments are now being inducted into PoK to replace those NLI Battalions that have had to be shifted to the west due to the heating up of the Durand Line.
So with this hullah bullah all possible action against Pakistan comes to standstill

Whilst everything in India moves at a slow pace and wastes time and money - Pakistan on the other hand can stay put because everything that you see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R943r1jU4KY is on offer to Pakistan as and when required as emergency assistance. This plus hundreds of trucks and planes ready with Chinese ammo, missiles, rockets...poor economy has nothing to do with funding these as Turkey and China will give them for free and seek favour at a later time. These aspects should be corrected by new govt hopefully.
To ARUN: Why? Because they were either launched in abgreat hurry before being armed, or they were not armed at all. Here’s one possible explanation:
ReplyDeletehttps://cenjows.gov.in/article-detail?id=164
To AMIT BISWAS: Not necessary, because the global crackdown has already begun:
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/us-arrests-pakistani-american-for-ties-to-jem-after-helping-designate-its-leader-masood-azhar-as-global-terrorist/articleshow/69167180.cms
To ABIR: Not yet. The winning design has not yet been selected.
To PRATAP: That depends on actionable intelligence of a precise nature, i.e. when & at what time his motorf-convoy will pass along roads close to the LoC, so that Harop killer-drones can be employed for an ambush-type air-strike.
To UJJWAL: It is FAKE NEWS. Because the Ruskies demand money for such procurements & Pakistan does not have the money to buy such hardware. It does not even have money to buy spares for its SSK fleet, hence only 1 Agosta 90B SSK remains operational.
To ANKIT KUMAR: No. The reqd no of MiG-29Ks (45) are enough for both INS Vikramaditya & IAC-1.
To BUDDHA: here’s an excellent analysis of India’s foreign policy shortcomings:
http://www.freedomgazette.in/2019/04/the-existential-crisis-in-indian-foreign-policy/
And this is how successive Pakistani govts have been LYING about Dr aafia Siddiqui:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZLhOcPF8-Y
And this is the BASTARD who has been peddling the lies off late:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAtuzow0xS0&t=32s
This is the ‘concern’ the Pakistani deep state shows for its own citizens, leave alone their ‘tortured Kashmiri brethren’!!!
To KAUSTAV: Word from Qingdao is that the PLA Navy was extremely amused to see INS Kolkata without its complement of shipborne NMRHs. And here’s the reason why this comment ewas made:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/india-replies-to-chinese-media-criticism-of-navy/story-XUxZ8NLuvVT4ViE5v0Nq9J.html
During the 2016 IFR held by the IN at Vizag, when a PLAN group of officers was showen around some of the IN’s warships, they were astounded to discover that the IN was using interior furnishings (like cupboards, bookshelves etc etc) that were not in compliance with fire-hazard prevention regulations. Upon being questioned by the PLAN officers, the IN officers had said that these hardware procurements were being undertaken with the help of funds allocated for ‘Habitanility Improvement’ to eachj warship & it was up to the crew complemnent of each warship to procure such furnishings on their own & without the need for adhering to any fire-hazard prevention parameters & thesxe furnishings were never insulated from internal cabling or power junction boxes. And this practice continues to this day!!! And this is also what led to the fire on-board to the INS Sindhuratna SSK when an IN inspection on board was subjecting that SSK to full electric power generation/consumption.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: The Ka-31 is the only helicopter along with the Ka-28PL that fits imto the hangars of the INS Vikramaditya, IAC-1 and the Project 1135.6 FFGs. Unlike parking lots for automobiles, hangars for helicopters on warships are built to the specific dimensions & weights of the shipborne NMRHs.
To ROHIT: ELINT satellite of India is NOT meant for pinpointing locations of ground-based radars. Instead, it is meant for eavesdropping on SATCOM communications. Near Balakot there were no ground-based radars that needed to be neutralised.
To HOODS007: Yes, that project began last year itself, starting with procurements for the IA’s HQ Northern Command. The IN’s LPHs will not be ordered anytime soon, rest assured. The IN’s Fleet Expansion Roadmap 2027 therefore has been junked.
Why Chinese were amused to see INS Kolkata without NMRH??what's the significance??
DeleteNew MH60R NMRH could not be deployed by INS vikramaditya...in that case what are the ships that could accommodate them...I am guessing all Indian shipyards make shivalik class and Kolkata class ships could accommodate them??
Prasunda,
ReplyDeleteA very distressing picture that you paint! The Refusing to Develop mindset continues. Hope, circumstances push the change required in India, since our fatalistic shortcut minded intellect certainly will not.
However, I do hope that the Scorpene or extended class of same is slated for Project 75(I). 9 (6+3) under Project 75 Scorpene class and a further 9 under Project 75(I) will certainly take care of the 18 submarine requirement as the Kilo & HDW class retire in the years ahead. The remaining 6 has to be then the projected SSN Attack submarines to complete the 24 submarine (18 SSK & 6 SSN) quota. It is very sad that the LPD as well as 24 Minesweeper requirement of the IN did not work out. Very Dangerous situation. The Chetaks have to be replaced ASAP, but that doesn't seem to be on the fast track yet. The shortage of medium NMRH, Ka-31, SeaKing replacements are alarming as well. The IN is neither being smart about utilisation of resources nor is the MoD serious about Naval requirements with the IAF & IA taking lions share of CAPEX.

--your thoughts on these??
1) Did we not have even 1 seaking or dhruv on board the ship sent to China recently? If so it would be ghastly, considering the p15a can carry two helis on board.
ReplyDelete2) Is this true? https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/how-sink-3-billion-dollar-submarine-forgetting-close-hatch-55942
3) Considering IN is so low on anti submarine warfare assets, would it have been prudent to spend money on ka 28 instead of ka 31?
4) How many ships does IN have that have a towed sonar, even an old one?
5) How many anti submarine warfare choppers does IN currently possess?
To BUDDHA: Even the UK, France & Pakistan have been left out. Hence, India need not worry.
ReplyDeleteTo KAUSTAV: yes indeed, the situation for the IN is alarming, when senior officers of the PLAN, when asked about how many warships will be commissioned this year, the standard reply was: maybe 10 or 12 warships. Meanwhile, here are some interesting & amusing analytics:

To CAPRICORN: Both contain stupid analysis & are not worth commenting.
To VINAY: 1) Not even one. Dhruv ALH is not qualified for shipborne operations & all of them now flown by the IN are from shore-based installations. 2) Not true. There was only minor corrosion caused to some pipes & transmission gaskets & now sea water ever entered the compartment housing the PWR. The accident involving the INS Chakra that caused the hull-mounted sonar dome to crack had caused az US$20 million loss for which the then CO of the SSGN, retired Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat’s son was to be held guilty & accountable. Hence, before a verdict could be pronounced, he resigned from the IN. 3) The 11 older Ka-28PLs are being upgraded & will be delivered starting from this year. 4) None. 5) About 20 of which 16 are Sea King Mk.42Bs.

ReplyDeleteFirstly, the term’copycat’ has negative connotations, meaning it is meant to be an unlicenced clone like what China has done with the erstwhile Varyag. These Anglo-Saxon Caucasians therefore need to improve their command over the English language. In reality, it will be a re-engineered version of the QE-2 design since the IN would like to put some of its own specific weapons & sensors, like the MF-STAR radar, LM-2500 gas-turbines etc etc. If the IN opts for the STOBAR configuration, then the Rafales will go on-board since the QE-2 design cannot accept Russia-designed MRCAs below-deck hangars. Furthermore, only UK-based OEMs & not Russian ones can supply the elevators necessary for supporting the operations of AEW platforms like the E-2D Hawkeye. Even if the E-2D is not selected, then the only other AEW helicopter option is the AW-101, since Ka-31-related operations or MRO activities cannot be supported in the below-deck hangars (since such hangars will be BAE Systems-designed & not Russia-designed. Lastly, the STOBAR’s compatibility will have to be demonstrated with Rafale & E-2D flight operations, which cannot be done in the Goa-based facility of the In in Dabolim since the ski jump there is optimized only for the MiG-29K. Hence, a new ski jump facility will have to be built by the IN either alongside or somewhere else.
Prasunda,
ReplyDeleteThe Indian Navy ORBAT is alarming indeed when compared to the Chinese Navy https://www.businessinsider.in/China-is-building-a-powerful-navy-to-take-on-the-US-in-the-Pacific-Heres-what-their-arsenal-looks-like/Type-001-aircraft-carrier-/slideshow/69121385.cms
1) Prasun sir, what is the reason for not equipping the Kolkata class with a helicopter when it went to china. I believe the seaking 42b is used for operations from Kolkata class. Is there any issue with the chopper or are all available choppers deployed with other ships so there was none to spare for the trip to China?
ReplyDelete2) What is the max range at which the ka 31 and upgraded ka 28 can detect a frigate sized target for over the horizon targeting with ship based anti ship missiles?
OTOH, The extensive use of unmanned USVs & even unmanned submersibles might help to even out the odds. Of course, Indian efforts are as usual in conceptual R&D mode. The Israeli & American tech might help. http://www.futurism.com/the-byte/giant-robot-sub-prowl-ocean

i have a 2 pence idea on finishing the PAF with a salvo of 1500 nirbhay missiles targeting the main paf bases HAS. Now the the cost of the nirbay will come down to 1 mill$ much lower than the brahmos. The cost can be brought down on such a large production run. when the manik engine and desi imaging radar come on line things should be brighter .15% may be shot down but just with 1.5 bill$ we can finish them.
The nirbays can be followed by brahmos targeting C4 and underground bunkers and radar sites . This can be followed by waves of strike an fighter ac to finish the rest? workable??

1. Why did we threaten a missile strike after the 27th Feb. by PAF?
2. The ISPR said that none of the bombs were primed (to explode) on the 27th Feb, did he speak the truth and if so why?
3. Do you see the Air-Land Op during the second term?

3.What I have noticed is sudden change in attitude of Pakistanis like Hassan Nisar,Najam Sethi,Rauf Klasra, etc.Especially after 2016.What happened in 2015/6 that crackdown on such media intensified on a massive scale?
Thanks....
To AMIT BISWAS: Because whenever any warship takes part in any IFR, it is expected to show off its very best. Absence of shipborne NMRH therefore means either there are not enough NMRHs to spare, or those in service are unavailable due to serviceability problems. MH-60R Seahawks are for the Project 28 ASW corvettes, P-17 FFGs, P-15 DDGs, P-15A DDGs & P-15B DDGs.
ReplyDeleteTo K KUMAR: 1) In order to secure Wg Cder Abhinandan’s release from captivity ASAP. After this threat, the UAE & the Saudis got involved to resolve the issue. 2) They were neither primed nor were they carrying any explosive materials on-board. He had to speak the truth because the IAF’s explosives ordnance disposal squads had alreadt found out the truth. 3) Anything’s possible.
To PRAJJWAL DALAL: 1) If the militants use civilians as human shields, then there are bound to be collateral casualties. 2) Because the Fremnch carrier is of an older design & the QE-2 is of more recent vintage. 3) At the end of the day they are Pakistani citizens who have nowhere else to go & their audience is also Pakistani, they have to earn their livelihoods from Pakistan itself & hence they have no choice but to tag along & abide by the deep-state’s diktats to the extent of 60%, while opposing them 40% of the time. That way, they can continue to stay afloat & save their skins. And here’s the latest about the unraveling of the CPEC:

To VINAY: 1) The Sea King Mk.42Bs are sparingly used because almost all of them have reached the end of their service-lives & therefore require re-lifing. And that is not possible because of Leonardo Group’s & AgustaWestland Helicopters’ blacklisting. 2) It is all explained here: https://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/ka31/
ReplyDeleteTo HOODS007: No more CASTOBAR & E-MALS or PWR-based propulsion. INS Vikrant is too small for generating sorties thrice daily involving 2 full sqns of carrier-based MMRCAs. E-MALS requires enormous amounts of surge electrical power that can be supplied only by PWRs. And since the priority now is the SSN project, development of a 190mWT PWR is not a priority & so this kind of PWR won’t be available for IAC-2 as well. CLGM was never meant to be a MP-ATGM. And the concept of CLGM works best with smoothbore cannons, not rifle-bore ones. Hence, the ‘desi’ CLGM is nowhere near to being made available for firing trials. The LPH project has been denied funding due to financial constraints.
To SANDY: No, because it is too expensive a proposition now for the IN, given the more pressing reqmts like SSNs, MCMVs & shipborne NMRHs.
To KAUSTAV: What has been happening since the latter half of the previous decade is that each & every country bordering China or in its immediate periphery (in south/central/southeast Asia) has been subjected to DE-INDUSTRIALISATION. For India this is the second process of de-industrialisation now underway, with the first being done by force by the colonial Brits and the present-day one being perpetrated by China through financial inducements, which have resulted in India’s manufacturing sector becoming un-competitive. For instance, by encouraging the use of plastic bags for carrying potatoes & other commodities, the GoI has totally destroyed the jute industry, as a result of which almost 100 factories along the Hoogly River from Howrah right up to Barrackpore are today under lock-outs!!!
To RAD: The Ka-31s can be used for both AEW & OTHT. In that sense, they are the most versatile shipborne NMRHs now in service with the IN, & they will be joined later this year by the upgraded Ka-28PL NMRHs. And the IAI-supplied RISAT-2BR will be replacing the RISAT-1/TecSAR/Polaris overhead recce satellite later this month.
Could u give us any detailed insight of Kamov Ka 28PL upgradation project along with ATOS suite from leonardo.

Where is the requirement of NMRH for ASuW role heading after recent acquisition of MH60R? For the 114 NMRH competition which will be preferred NFH from NHI or MH60R.....Is NFH of NHI is better than MH60R in capability
I could not understand the logic of going for tender route for future NMRH when MH60R already selected by navy is available on FMS at cost effective rate.

THANK YOU
To BUDDHA: Well, I had already documented them chronologically here:
ReplyDeletehttps://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2019/01/compendium-of-indian-armys-cross-loc.html
And the dates mentioned by the INC directly coincide with the dates I had givem albeit with more details coming from me.
The RTI was addressed to Indian Army HQ & hence the answer came from Military Operations Directorate’s DGMO. What this means is that no past cross-LoC raids were authorised directly by the DGMO or IA HQ, but those were instead authorised by the IA’s HQ Northern Command. So, if another RTI is filed directly with IA’s HQ Northern Command, then the correct response will come.
To THE INDIAN: 1) It has reached the end of its operational life, i.e. 10 years. 2) NONE. That’s how serious the ‘netas/chowkidaars’ do their chowkidaari nowadays. 3) No. The moment the order is placed, Russian Aircraft Corp will announce it, rest assured. 4) NONE. 5) NONE.
To ARUN: The PAF never flew its MRCAs closer than 10km from the IB & the same is the case with the IAF. The ‘ambush’ was planned by the PAF over PoK airspace & there’s no border demarcating the airspace over PoK because the LoC itself is just a temporary ceasefire line & not a border. Furthermore, since India regards PoK as her own integral territory, then the airspace over PoK should not be regarded as belonging to Pakistan. But why the GoI & IAF thinks otherwise is mysterious. Similarly, the Durand Line between Afghanistan & Pakistan isn’t a border at all, since the Line was never demarcated on the ground & it therefore only denotes the FRONTIERS of each country’s administrative control. And that’s why Pakistan’s forces that patrol along the Durand Line are known as Frontier Corps & Frontier Force Regiment. Bear these specifics in mind since the devil always lurks within such minute details. And in case you overlooks them, then these self-proclaimed ‘netas/chowkidaars’ will very happily drag you by the nose into uncharted wilderness!
To HOODS007: Even sensors & weapons can have a profound impact on a warship’s design, since entire rows of cabling/electrical wiring have to be changed to cater for new sensors.
To ASD: This is the one:
https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2018/06/when-how-religiosity-inspired.html
To AMIT BISWAS: This is the only description available:
https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2016/07/manohar-parrikar-made-to-bite-bullet_31.html
Sea Kings can be re-lifed but with US-origin kits. 114 NMRH will be the MH-60Rs. Even the 111 NLUHs will be NMRHs. Ka-31 does not require any upgrades. And for as long as India remains reliant on foreign-origin MRCAs, there will not be any standardisation of AESA-MMRs as well.
To PRRANSHU YADAV: It is shown in one of the slides I had uploaded in the Aero India-2019 Show Highlights thread.
To SIDHARTH: That is FAKE NEWS.
To BUDDHA: Such missiles are available from FN of Belgium & are 2.75-inch/70mm rockets that are on the Rudra, LCH & will also be on the LUH. There’s no need for MiG-35s since the MiG-29UPG is more than enough to take care of both China & Pakistan.
To UNKNOWN: The PWR must be of the life-long type that wonlt require refuelling for 40 years.
To PRATEEK: Yes, it is, awaiting the 127mm naval gun from BAE Systems, for which the contract has yet to be signed.
That's quite assuring if 114 NMRH is MH60R...but about NLUH I am confused ...is navy going for only one type of heavy helicopters in future instead of light and heavy mix ???
DeleteTo KAUSTAV: This effectively sums it up:

sir,
ReplyDeletesorry, but I have an irrelevant question for this blog.
how many seats do you think bjp will win?
usuaully your analysis is correct, and I would like to know your views about the expected result.
Thank you
To PRATEEK: According to the worst-case scenarios being spoken of by the Delhi-based sons & daughters of the highest-level members of the BJP, it is being expected that the the BJP will win about 220 seats.
ReplyDeleteTo BUDDHA: Being a ‘Chowkidaaron ka Chowkidaar’ (i.e. the one who is expected to guard the guardians), I don’t have the luxury of having fixed/pre-determined working/sleeping hours. I’m sure you will understand.
The IA had conducted ‘surgical strikes’ across the CFL against Pakistan as fare back as 1964:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ4Zl2ySGf0&t=4s
To PRAJJWAL DALAL: 1) Not true at all. To find out what really happened, you need to reead this book:
https://www.amazon.in/My-Enemys-Enemy-Afghanistan-Withdrawal-ebook/dp/B075GJ8YD8?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=_k_CjwKCAjwwtTmBRBqEiwA-b6c_yC2JRMI2D-cT2nlH02QziAJaEUnOxu0O7Rjv6pdr_mfqlBFbIFyoxoCImwQAvD_BwE_k_&gclid=CjwKCAjwwtTmBRBqEiwA-b6c_yC2JRMI2D-cT2nlH02QziAJaEUnOxu0O7Rjv6pdr_mfqlBFbIFyoxoCImwQAvD_BwE
2) Not only PA troops, but also some civilians & especially during the month of Ramadaan/Ramzaan this leads to the PA deployed along the LoC losing its moral ascendancy. 3) They are highly respectable only on matters of politics & not on military-technical/military-industrial matters.
To RAJESH MISHRA: This interview of Admiral Arun Prakash explains in great detail all that is wrong in India’s national security planning/policy implementation processes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWNpiUGeZ8Y
Bechaaraa Sadmon Jacob bahut ghabraayaa thaa.
To GOVIND: That is needless speculation. Here’s the true state of Pakistan’s steadily economy & how the IMF will soon force Pakistan to drastically cut down its defence expenditure, i.e. eventual de-nuclearisation:

Future of Pakistan Iran Relations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoOo5Pvab9A

To BHOUTIK: Without a detailed military-technical/military-industrial vision, every such product is very hared to develop & build, rest assured. Indonesia is already buying radars from THALES & air-defence artillery from Rheinmetall Defense. And before buying any aircraft carrier, the IN must first be given the four PLHs without which India can never be a nett security provider for the IOR area.
To RAHUL: That is only possible if India has a declaratory national security strategy that clearly states that any foreigner entering India fully armed to cause death-n-destruction will be treated as the enemy of enemy & the act will be an act of aggression/war. This isn’t the case today, since successive Indian govts have instead embraced terms like cross-border terrorism & non-state actors. So, unless the Govt of India stops wearing blinkers, folks will continue to attack India by any & all means & the Indian state will be unable to put an end to such attacks.
To RON & AMIT BISWAS: 1 & 2) It is indicative of something that I had mentioned earlier, i.e. India excels in producing ‘netas’ that are both literate & educated, but at the same time they are totally ignorant of domestic & international ground realities. And here are 2 interesting articles:

Prasun what you said above I have been saying and have commented on Youtube and other forums for a very long time: any transgressor with an intent to cause death, destruction or sabotage - that is intent on attacking the sovereignty of India is an enemy and any state or group found to sponsor such actors will be deemed to have declared an act of war against the nation of India therefore will be in a state of war. That will cover Pakistan and China and send a strong message to anyone contemplating such actions. Instead by saying wishy washy things, India in effect is saying, all those nations are essentially good just some rogue elements are creating problems.

ReplyDeleteI’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I stumbled across this in my hunt for something relating to this.
