GIDS Exhibits At IDEF'23 Originate From China & South Africa

IDEF’23, the 16th International Defence Industry Fair held between July 25 and 28, 2023 at Istanbul, Turkiye, saw Pakistans state-owned Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS) exhibiting several of its products that were clearly of China-origin. This should not come as a surprise, as such a practice has been in existence since the mid-1990s. For instance, the Hatf-9/Nasr MBRL is in essence the WS-32 400mm, 4-tube MBRL, while the Fatah-1 MBRL is the eight-tube WS-35 302mm MBRL.

These MBRLs were developed by China’s Chengdu-based Sichuan Aerospace Industry Corp, but were marketed by China’s state-owned ALIT and China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corp (CPMIEC).

China’s cruise missile design, research, development, and manufacturing are now concentrated in a single business division within one of two state aerospace conglomerates, the China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation (CASIC) Third Academy. One of seven design academies under CASIC—which has more than 100,000 employees—the Third Academy—is China’s principal R & D and manufacturing entity for all types of cruise missiles. Established in 1961, the Third Academy has been involved in the design and development of 20 types of cruise missiles, including the indigenous Haiying- and Yingji-series and their export versions. Today, it boasts of 10 research institutes and two factories, with 13,000+ employees, including 2,000 researchers and around 6,000 technicians.

Hongdu Aviation Industry Group (formerly Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing Co), under Aviation Industry Corporation of China, produces FL- and TL-series of anti-ship cruise missiles for export. Finally, for three decades China has marketed a wide range of indigenously produced cruise missiles (and other weapons systems) through the China Precision Machinery Import & Export Corp (CPMIEC), the CASIC Third Academy’s export management branch. Established in 1980, CPMIEC is a member of the Xinshidai Group and jointly owned by CASIC and the Chinese Aerospace Science & Technology Corp (CAST).

It was CASIC that in August 2001 succeeded in smuggling out of Kiev all relevant production engineering data packages of a LACM called Korshun, which had by then been developed by Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk-based Yuzhnoye State Design Bureau, with production tooling being built by the Yuzhnoye Machine-Building Production Association, or Yuzhmash. The Korshun’s powerplant was a redesigned RD95-300 turbofan that bore a strong resemblance to the 36MT engine developed by Russia’s NPO Saturn.

Dimensions of the Korshun included a wingspan of 3.1 metres, length of 6.3 metres, diameter of 0.514 metres, and a mass of 1,090kg. Range of the LACM was then claimed to be 600km when carrying a 500kg warhead. in 2002, China created a consortium of state-owned R & D institutes and companies (called the Xi’an Sicong Group) that included the Shanghai Institute for Optics & Fine Mechanics, China North Opto‑Electro Industries Corporation (OEC), Changchun Institute of Optics & Fine Mechanics, and Luoyang Opto-Electro Technology Development Centre.

These entities had earlier obtained vital optronic technology inputs from Ukraine’s TOCHNOST. By late 2003, the CASIC Third Academy (also known as China Haiying Electro-Mechanical Technology Academy or CHETA) and 8359 Research Institute had, along with the Beijing University for Aeronautics & Astronautics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China State Electronics Systems Engineering Corp, Sichuan Aerospace Industry Corp and the Tianjin Institute for Power Sources, had completed fabrication of the first six prototypes of the 1,500km-range DH-10A LACM variant of the Korshun, and in August 2004 the first test-firings were conducted at an instrumented offshore range in the Bohai Sea.

CASC’s Beijing Xinghang Electromechanical Equipment Factory (159 Factory) is the final assembly facility for the DH-10A, while Beijing Hangxing Machine Building Factory (239 Factory) and the Xinxin Factory in Shanghai produce the various on-board components.

The LACM and its AKD-20 ALCM variant carries a range of different 770lb or 1,100lb warheads. The GLCM variant has a length of 7 metres, launch mass of 1,350kg, warhead mass of 300kg, and cruise speed of 0.9 Mach. The GLCM variant has since been sold to Pakistn as the Babur and Harbah cruise missiles.

China’s PL-12 BVRAAM is equipped with active radar-homing seeker developed by Ukraine’s Radionix. It uses a dual-thrust solid rocket motor and can exceed Mach 4 and endure 38 G. The missile’s omnidirectional sensors are accurate to within 1 metre. Its active radar seeker is the Ka-band ‘Onix’ from Radionix, which has a range of 25km, search area of +/-40 degrees in azimuth and elevation and offers “fire-and-forget” capabilities. It has a 24kg warhead and uses a radio proximity fuse. Initial versions of the PL-12 had used the Russia-origin Agat/Istok 9B-1350E Ku-band seekers.

A ground-launched variant of the PL-12 is the Faaz BVRAAM and its Faaz-SL variant from GIDS.

China’s latest PL-15 BVRAAM, under development since 2009, was first test-fired on September 15, 2015. The missile, which too uses the Onix seeker,  weighs 210kg, has a range of 145km and uses a dual-pulse, smokeless solid-propellant rocket motor for extended range (two fuel chambers and one exhaust nozzle) that was originally developed by South Africa’s DENEL Dynamics for the ‘Marlin’ BVRAAM. For long-range engagements the first pulse fires and the missile glides towards its target before the second pulse fires at a later point in time. For shorter engagements, both pulses can be fired almost simultaneously. Top speed is close to Mach 4. Flight control is by servo motor controlled fins. The PL-15’s airframe can sustain 30 G and its leading edges can function in temperatures of both -50 degrees Celsius and + 900 degrees Celsius once launched.

The Faaz family of BVRAAMs shown by GIDS at IDEF’23 is, in reality, the Umkhonto family of BVRAAMs developed by South Africa’s Dynamics.

The Shahpar-3 UAV from GIDS is, in reality, the FH-95 UAV from the China Aerospace Science & Technology Corporation. Its MTOW is 1,000kg, maximum payload weight is 250kg, service ceiling of 42,000 feet and a flight endurance of 24 hours.

The Tipu 155mm GPS-guided projectile is, in reality, NORINCO of China’s GP-155B projectile.

The range-extension kits (REK) emanating from GIDS too come from China.
The Burq ASM is in reality the AR-1 ASM from China.

Finally, the Taimur ALCM showcased by GIDS is, in reality, a souped-up variant of the TS-20 PGM developed by Tengden of China, which will be powered by China-origin turbojets.

The latest PGM to be imported by the PAF from China is shown below.

    1. What does China gain by allowing Pak to present, sell and profit from products from its own MIC ?

    2. When you said that what NoKo might give Pak depends on what type of canister technology Pak is asking for, does this mean Pak may not get the ability to cold launch a land based MRBM/IRBM from a canister ?

    3. Would India be able to deploy Agni-P ad Agni-5 in service before any Pak canister capability appears ?

    4. To counter Fatah/Weishi series precision guided rockets Pak has, dose'nt India need to deploy the prahar in a conventional role ? Why has there been such a delay doing this ?

To SATYAKI: China gains financially since Pakistan procures such weapons from China & re-brands them for re-sale. 2) The PA is on the lookout for SS-BSMs to replace its old Ghaznavi SRBMs. 3) Yes. 4) Not quite, since the PA will be using such MBRLs within its own territory, such as Chicken's Neck area. Prahar is armed with TNW & hence cannot be used against such PA MBRLs. Instead, loitering drones need to be used against them.

  9. To SATYAKI: It is known as PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY, i.e. If China does not want to be seen as a weapons supplier to Azerbaijan for fear of angering Iran, then Beijing will use Pakistan as the proxy weapons supplier.

To RAGHU: LoLz! Since Pakistn has identified its exploitable mineral wealth as being valued at US$6.5 trillion, I guess it will emerge a few years later as an industrialised & prosperous country with $3 trillion GDP that will be able to afford new-generation MRCAs like the KAAN from Turkey!!!

To SUMANTA NAG: 1) That is the 155mm/52-cal MGS co-developed by Kalyani Group & BEML. 2) If India wants, she can easily send one of the IAF’s IL-76MDs to Russia for conversion into an airborne testbed. It is perfectly doable. However, WRT the 73kN-thrust Kaveri, it ought to be installed on one of the Tejas Mk.1 PV/LSP aircraft & be subjected to high-speed taxi-trials. This will allow the Kaveri to be optimised for full-flight tests within a period of 3 years (if 3 Tejas Mk.1 airframes were to be dedicated as flying prototypes powered by Kaveri turbofans). After that, the Kaveri will be capable of obtaining its airworthiness certification. Consequently, such a Tejas MK.1’s tandem-seat variant with a modified cockpit featuring sidestick controls (like those on the Rafale & projected Tejas-AF Mk.2) will be an ideal LIFT aircraft for both the IAF & IN. For the latter, such a LIFT can easily be used for training pilots for conducting arrested landings & takeoffs from STOBAR aircraft carriers.

well fact is that the bastard davinder singh who was arrested for carrying 2 terrorist in a car by another ips official said that don't touch me i have connection and clearance from top. clearance from top for what and who. you can easily connect the dots.

fact is that the official who arrested davinder singh has been sent on punishment posting. why ? perhap he stopped a terrorist attack from being orchestrated that could have been used for political gains just like pulwama. who used pulwama for political gains connect the dots.

fact is that davinder singh was posted in pulwama and was transferred just 2 days before the attack. and after his arrest no case against was taken up by the court because national security agencies said that 'for sake of national security the case be dropped' now connect the dots

facts are that both his daughter were studying costly medical courses in Dhaka university. where did he get the money to fund their education. connect the dots

after the case was dropped davinder singh and his entire family has gone kaput. how and why connect the dots

  14. To SUMANTA NAG: 1) To date only 1 prototype has been built. Up to 6 prototypes are reqd for field-testing purposes. 2) LoLz! You are having high expectations from the DRDO! The ‘Anusandhaan’ airborne testbed was acquired only 3 years ago when it should have been procured 2 decades ago for flight-testing of the Tejas Mk.1’s avionics suites. That’s how decision-making processes work within the DRDO & the Govt of India. For example, what does this man know about quantum computing?:

    http://www.uniindia.com/renowned-scientist-dr-vijay-kumar-appointed-qetci-board-chairman/business-economy/news/3022703.html

To ASD: 1) Why are you asking this when I had already given the details here:

    https://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2023/06/updates-from-vizag-bhuj.html

    2) It is not in a forward area, since forward areas have ‘FBSU’ or forward base supply units, not full fledged air bases like Avantipora. Blame the ‘desi patrakaars’ for getting it all wrong! 3) Not any Monu, but entities like VHP & Bajrang Dal, which will face the axe just like the Hindu Yuva Vahini did in UP. After Praveen Togadia of VHP was turned into a vegetable & no one knows whether he is dead or alive, it is time for the remnants of the VHP to undergo similar treatments. 4) That is due to the ineptitude of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs over the past 4 years.

  16. @ Joydeep Ghosh, Sire, hope you are in great love with the entities called RSS and BJP, and same obsession, addiction may go unabated. However, problem is that since that love is blind enough you try to distinguish between love personified and loveable things all around so that either you fail to spot truth or your probable blind myopic vision simply overlook the fact that your lovers are not from Mars.

"well fact is that the bastard davinder singh who was arrested for carrying 2 terrorist in a car by another ips official said that don't touch me i have connection and clearance from top. clearance from top for what and who. you can easily connect the dots."

---- Has it been proved in the court beyond doubt that Top indeed was somebody from yours love personified ? Or may dots be connected on thin air based on bubbles of sentiment or mere hypothesis, which is rejected by Law of the Land ?

"act is that davinder singh was posted in pulwama and was transferred just 2 days before the attack. and after his arrest no case against was taken up by the court because national security agencies said that 'for sake of national security the case be dropped' now connect the dots"

------ Again your amusing logic of connecting dots are resurfaced like the gibberish by the Juliet blind in love for Romeo. In reality NIA has filed the Chargesheet, and without any enquiry that Fellow has been dismissed from service by the Governor, and that has been done in ambit of Rule i.e. clause 2 of Article 311 of the Constitution.

    https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/nia-to-probe-case-of-arrested-jk-dsp-davinder-singh/article61643421.ece

The reason of his summery dismissal and forfeiting his gallantry award may be traced back to 1990s during the start of his career, when Davinder Singh along with fellow probationary SI was caught selling Contraband, and dismissal was stopped by an IG Rank officer, and later this Davinder Singh guy was rehabilitated in SOG(Elite Counter Terrorism Force of J&K Police) in 1997 !!! Guess who were in power then, both in the State and Central Government ? All so called call for Connecting Dots will burst into air.

Can you please name the 'Sahid' NIA officer who has attained 'Sahadat' by said 'punishment posting' ? Or Provide a link when and where NIA dropped charge against that Fellow ? Rather link suggests that fellow was granted interim relief by the Delhi High Court after Delhi Police miraculously failed to file the Charge Sheet in stipulated 90 days despite claiming his link with ISI's Punjab Unit, but had to be lodged in Kathua's Heeranagar jail, since he is arrested by the NIA.

    https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/davinder-singh-bail-terror-case-jammu-and-kashmir-1690700-2020-06-19

In April, 2021, The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has dismissed a plea by the suspended deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Davinder Singh, seeking transfer of his case from a special court in Jammu to Srinagar. The NIA had filed the Charge Sheet under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) before the Court of Special Judge, Jammu.

  20. @Joydeep Ghosh, Sire, I really like your Highness's comical appearance with everchanging emotional faces in between sentences which may be thy nature of unsound minds provocated by whims and fancies, but lolz Sire, that unlike you I do not owe allegiance to any school of thoughts, that's why I remain unperturbed by any political upheaval and do not bother for whichever political dispensation is in the rule of power. But it is botheration for rational Indian Citizen that whether they like to be ruled or governed or whether they feel fine to be ruled, but be not worry Sire, it is for rational citizen only. Now, let's dissect your comments.

"1. really you talk of kanhaiya kumar but calmly refuse to acknowledge hemant biswa sarma (his actions have proved why rahul gandhi was busy feeding his dog with him around ), shehzad poonawala, rpn singh, jyotiraditya scidia (poor chap was once revered as shrimant but now has been relegated to bhaisaab in bjp ) gaurav bhatia,vk singh (who entered forces hiding his true age )"

---Sire, as I had earlier stated, due to my non-allegiance to any school of thought, I classify the all political clans irrespective of any colour into one grouping called 'Ruling Elites'. Hopefully, your answer was given. Regarding Ex-General's case (though curious as it may be seems first of its kind in history of Indian Armed Forces), the following comments may be seen "The Union government had never questioned Gen Singh’s integrity or bona fides but contested his petition as a matter of principle, which did not cast any reflection on his ability to lead the Army" --- Statement of the then AG as recorded by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in 2012. Finally, Hon'ble Supreme Court's answer may be seen "xxX The matter was discussed in the Army and the ministry, and you accepted that it be 1950. If you had continued to show it to be 1951, you would probably have faced disciplinary action. You had reconciled to the position that for service your date of birth is 1950. Having given that commitment, it does not befit a meritorious officer like you to take such a stand at the fag end of the (sic) career. May be it is an unfortunate happening or destiny, but you accepted the date of birth as 1950 xXX" Seems that the General saved by the UPA in Court had been rehabilitated in the retired life in NDA ? 1) Looks like Turkey has developed a new mini cruise missile (the Kemankes) which is a jet powered loitering munition with a 200 km + range that goes on the TB2 bayraktar UAV. Also appears Pak is procuring this. Does this give Pak an advantage vis a vis AD systems like that S-400 ? Or are SHORADS (incl. radar cued AD guns) enough totackle this threat ?

    2) Are the Newspace ALFA drones going to be inducted in the near future ?

With China allowed to develop with greedy capitalist West's investments, they command a tremendous financial clout and military technical advantage which prop up Pakistan every step of the way. On top of that whilst India spends years deliberating and finally producing something, with China and now Turkey under the wretched President, who act on steroids and can supply stuff off the shelf in a whisker. Then you got the US looking after its own interest and with the influence all over the world can use India and Pakistan as two dogs to pull its sleigh. Meanwhile, China is laughing all the way because now they have Russia by their balls, the US by the short and curly, they are once again luring India into "advanced tech" so Pakistan takes the bait of "security" guarantee and follows, and with ISI and corrupt politicians doing the dirty work- communal violence, religious unrest and political divide and rule - all making sure China continues its global expansionist policy successfully.

  42. To JOYDEEP GHOSH: LoLz! You are missing the woods for the trees. How can policing be done in 2023 when the legislaion for it is the 1867 Police Act? I had explained this mis-match several times before. That’s why even the 950 Constitution is not in sync with the Indian law-enforcement machinery’s SOPs. It is all qute common-sensical, not rocket science. Consequently, all govts—past & present—are to be held accountable for the dysfunctional state of affairs. As for CISMOA, Pakistan had inked it WAY BEFORE India in 2005. The latest signing is just a RENEWAL of the earlier agreement. Regarding MiG-29 SLEP, the rport you are drawing inspiration from is FAKE NEWS & three figures explain it all: MiG-29UPG upgrade began in 2014; the TTSL of the RD-33-3 turbofan’s TTSL is 4,000 hours; & each MiG-29UPG logs only 120 flight-hours every year. So, if you do the math, you will easily obtain the figure of the MiG-29UPG’s remaining service-life.

To SATYAKI: 1) Loitering PGMs cannot undertake terrain-hugging flight-profiles & are therefore clearly visible to ground-based air-defence networks. And as I had stated several times before, such UAV/PGM combinations are used within uncontested airspaces, i.e. Turkey will employ them against Kurdish separatists in northern Syria & northwestern Iraq, while Pakistan will use them inside Afghanistan. 2) Unlikely, because of this:

Sameer Joshi, founder of Bengaluru-based NewSpace Research and Technologies, a supplier of small drones for India's military, said 70% of goods in the supply chain were made in China. "So if I talk to, let's say, a Polish guy, he still has his components which are coming via China," he said. Switching to a non-Chinese pipeline pushed up costs dramatically, Joshi said, adding that some manufacturers were still importing material from China but would "white-label it, and kind of keep the costs within that frame".

    https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/india-bars-makers-military-drones-using-chinese-parts-2023-08-08/

    3) India does not require such PGMs because India’s battlefields are unique & therefore require indigenous solutions. For example, back in 1999, IAF MiG-23BNs had to attain an altitude of 44,000 feet ASL before commencing the bombing run & then had to level off at 25,000 feet ASL for avoiding Pakistani MANPADS—something the MiG-23BN was never designed for.

    To HARSH: 1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) Nothing else is reqd. 4) Barak-8. 5) More than 400.

  44. Hello Prasun

I hope that you are doing well. I would bring to your notice something that appeared here: https://thediplomat.com/2023/08/chinas-j-20-gets-another-upgrade/

The article claims that WS-15 engine will feature a thrust to weight ratio of between 10 to 11. WS-15 engines flown on the J-20 prototype 2052. WS-15 features supercruise, more electrical power generation, better thermal management properties, thrust vectoring nozzles, and provide much greater long-term growth potential and redundancy. The new variant of J-20 was initially dubbed the J-20B. The enhancements of the J-20A are so significant that it may in the future contend as a “5.5th” generation. The annual J-20 production rate may approach 100 aircraft per year by the end of 2023, and comfortably meet 100 per year in 2024. The number of J-20s that have been produced is estimated to be anywhere between 200 to 250 aircrafts. J-20 has attained a relatively mature operational capability.

It comes in direct conflict with a report probably from CSIS about PRC-CCP aero-engine capabilities sometime back. Is this a yellow journalism or disinformation or imagination gone wild or somethingelse?

One thing that keeps frequently coming up in Twitter-X & elsewhere also, is the "SERIAL NUMBER EXAMINATION" of aircraft rudder to find the total number of aircrafts in service. Is this a reliable method in case of PLAAF? https://www.defensenews.com/air/2022/11/08/display-at-zhuhai-airshow-reveals-info-on-chinas-j-20-j-16-inventory/

  48. To AMIT BISWAS: China has for several decades been using North Korean citizens seeking employment in Russia’s Far East as spies. Hence, this latest disclosure is nothing new.

T VIN: 1) It translates into less flying on the MiG-29UPGs €& Su-30MKIs, both of which can log in only 120 flght-hours every year. Other combat aircraft of the IAF don’t have this limitation & can easily log in 25flight-hours per month. 2) Of course, effortlessly.

To SOUMYA RAY: That is a highly speculative news-report replete with ‘could’. China is notorious for falsifying aircraft registration nos. For instance, while the PLAN has only 24 J-15s, the registration nos of the J-15 have exceeded 86! Same goes for the PLAAF, which recently began absorbing all PLAN shore-based combat aircraft assets into its fleet inventory:

“However, it is highly likely that in the event of military hostilities between the US and China due to a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan, the naval enclave of the ICTP at Galathea Bay could will be at the receiving end of the PLARF’s DF-27 IRBMs carrying hypersonic glide-vehicles (HGV). The only defence against such a threat then will be either the Indian Navy’s projected NG-DDGs armed with endo-atmospheric LR-SAM interceptors optimised for ballistic missile defence (BMD), or land-based AAD interceptor missiles.”

  49. To SANTOSH: No, that is not possible since the frontage of the India-Pakistan & China-India battlefields will be highly limited in the Chhamb-Sialkot sector & in eastern Ladakh & Sikkim/Arunachal Pradesh, unlike the 2,000km + flat terrain frontage in Ukraine. That’s why many of the events in Ukraine hold no lessons for India’s armed forces. 2) Then you must ask him to produce photos of such a jammer pod & also ask him what AESA-based jammers ar used for. BTW even soe of the Uttam AESA-MMR’s & EL/M-2052 AESA-MMR’s T/R modules can be used for directional jamming of conventional airborne MMRs. I hope the Indian Armed Forces and Military strategists are able to make good use of the fruits of such espionage attempts as the ones you have shared above.

I had a question for you though, do you think our forces are over-rated when it comes to long term vision and strategy? They showed no appreciation, as per most information available in the public domain, of the fact that a rising China would not hold back on their expansionist aims and could very plausibly seek to alter the boundary with us. Instead, they seemed to have a Pak hangover for well into the 2010s. I am talking of a consensus on China arriving at in the relatively tranquil 2000s itself. The necessary reorientation of the forces for a collusive Pak-China threat scenario was done just a few years back when push came to shove following the events throughout the past decade. And considering the attention span that Pakistan has been given by the security establishment, we have very little to show- Not even a flattening of the LoC has been achieved. It is alarming as it is shocking.
The IAF is well short of 20 squadrons imho and they can only be attributed to lack of strategic foresight. What otherwise, should explain the pathetic number of surface combatants such as DDGs and FFGs for the Indian Navy especially given the fact that India is bound to emerge and remain as the third largest economy with the size comfortably at 10 Trillion USD and beyond, it is perplexing that they never envisioned a larger fleet size.

I do realise the shortcomings of the civillian administration, however as the major component of strategic military thought, it was upon the armed forces to sell the idea to the government. None of which was done, at least as successfully. I do realise that the integration of armed forces into various aspects of strategic admin cum decision making was never given the push it deserved except only perhaps, since 2014.

    What are your views?

    @Sumanta Nag Babu
I made a typo earlier, it should have been "with all due respect to Sumanta Nag Babu".

I appreciate your comments. Frankly, I don't mind any political debate. I had to rear my voice against outlandish propaganda. Sample the blame 'hindutva' had received, at a philosophical level, for the events in Manipur. It doesn't even pass the basic smell taste. Hindutva afterall, right or wrong, seeks to deemphasize tribalistic and caste based affinities towards a more uniform Hindu identity. The events at Manipur on the other hand are purely ugly tribalism. Secondly, at a more political level, it is the UPA, now renamed I.N.D.I.A., that has sought to make the issues a Hindu-Christian thingy, while explicitly taking sides of the 'Christian' side. But, hey, who cares for basic commonsense? Since, supreme leader of the high command, the perennial 'young man', has decided to give it a communal basing, our useful idiot will have to tag along. And the whole thing is funny if not ironic, given the situation at large is a result of years long 'migration and infiltration' yojana that was implemented by leaderji's party and affiliates. If 'normalcy' in Kashmir took decades and is still an active problem, I don't see why Manipur or for that matter the whole of North East (yes they are all plagued) will be different.

Here is an excellent piece by https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-66161535 clearly articulates how the present day issue is a result of war on illicit poppy farming and mindless infiltration and migration from neighbouring Myanmar and states.

Anyhow, I don't wish to start with another debate so I will stop right now and wish you good.

    Regards,
    Abs

Surprisingly it is mentioned in the video that it was becasue it fits more eaisly in vikrant's lift is what clinched the deal for rafale. Rafale for now is able to carry only 1 antiship missile on its centre line pylon. Assume it can be configured to carry 2/4 more on its inboard & mid pylons, pls confirm

  58. To NORTHIE: SDRs & IFF transponders are LRUs, while data-linking is just another mode of operation using SDR. That’s why ELBIT’s E-Lynx vehicular SDRs can be used for data-linking, as I had explained recently in a previous thread.

To SOUMYA RAY: 1) How? I had already answered that in the past, i.e. re-painting of airframe & then Twitter accounts like this spreading rumours:

    https://twitter.com/RupprechtDeino?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

    2) Yes. But only for R & D. 3) Because they’re short-range SS-BSMs. Pralay is a longer-range SS-BSM. 4) Yes. 5) Such AAAUs are of the fixed-type.

To DHANU G: Here is the video of the seminar:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z_qDOICjPA&t=5s

To ABS: It is not the fault of th armed forces, since they are subservient to civilian decision-makers & hence it is the latter that is to be held responsible for not providing strategic visioning vectors. For example, have you ever seen the PM or RM visiting the command-n-control rooms of any military exercise or a humanitarian disaster-response operation?

Regarding Manipur, the reasons for the on-going ethnic conflict are deep-rooted & all of them are beautifully explained here:

I’m sure you must have been as much distressed as I was by the recent needless cockfights fought in Parliament on the Manipur issue. This only shows a total lack of alacrity among India’s ‘neta’ communities. Contrast this with the actions of French parliamentarians who got together within 24 hours of the ISIS terror-attacks in France & within 48 hours enacted legislations reqd for combatting such thteats!

On another note, the following totally exposes the contempt expressed by the US towards Pakistan:

    https://theintercept.com/2023/08/09/imran-khan-pakistan-cypher-ukraine-russia/

To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) Rafale M-MRCA can carry 3 ASCMs, if reqd. 2) It is the NASM-MR. Warship-launched & submarine-lauinched variants of the ITCM are mant for land-attack, like the IN’s existing Novator 3M-14E Klub subsonic cruise missile. 3) More test-firings are reqd to establish the reliability of the GTRE-developed Manik STFE.

To JOYDEEP GHOSH: Elementary: different end-users have different performance parameters for range & penetration effectiveness. For air-defence, 35mm will suffice, whereas for ICVs 57mm is the gold-standard now.

    ReplyDelete
  63. To VIN: Deliveries will start 36 months after contract signature. Thered are no huge backlogs since all the export orders are in double digits only: Croatia (12), Egypt (54), France (192), Greece (24), India (36 + 26), Indonesia (42), Qatar (36), UAE (80). Contrast this with global F-16 orders since the early 1980s for 4,000 + of them, due to which final-assembly lines had to be established abroad in Belgium, Egypt, Holland, Japan, South Korea & Turkey. In India, despite Su-30MKI licenced-production having begun in 2004, even today there are several thousand components still awaiting indigenisation! And given the limited numbers of Rafales reqd by the IAF (114 under the MRFA project), the cost of setting up even a final-assembly line for them in India will jack up the acquisition costs of each such assembled Rafale by 4 times!!! Land will have to be bought for setting up such a facility, new jigs & toolings will have to be bought, a whole pool of highly-skilled workforce will have to be trained. All this will consume both funds & time of the kind India does not possess. Above all else, history has proven that licence-assembling/licence-producing combat aircraft in India both during & after the Cold War has only led to the creation of DPSUs that now cannot be privatised, thereby posing a heavy financial burden on the national exchequer. It would have been far better had foreign-origin combat aircraft been imported off-the-shelf & the money saved should have been invested in developing homegrown fixed-wing combat aircraft & helicopters.

To HARSH: 1) Because the Russian Navy was caught napping in Crimea, i.e. it never expected such an attack to take place & hence the AK-630M CIWS stations were neither activated nor manned, just like what had happened to the Israeli Navy’s Barak-1-armed corvette in 2006 when it was struck by a C-802 ASCM fired by Hezbollah off Beirut. 2) LoLz! A simple glance at the ship-launched YJ-21E will reveal that it isn’t hypersonic at all. Only its air-launched variant is hypersonic & it can be interceptd by the S-400 SAMs. Supersonic sea-skimming ASCMs don’t exist. All supersonic ASCMs cruise at medium altiudes right up to impact. 3) This is how I see the war progressing:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSrdnGwtM-4&t=8s

How Russia is Dodging Sanctions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgKU5maYuGQ

To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) Like the SMART, any such long-range LRAShM will be just a technology demonstrator vehicle, unless an entire regional constellation of about 150 low-Earth orbiting SAR-equipped mini-satellites is available for target acquisition. Presently, only the US has such a capacity due to which missiles like LRASM & Tactical Tomahawk Block-VA have on-board data-links that allow them to switch targets while in flight. Both missiles can loiter for hours and change course instantly on command. China too is trying to develop a similar capacity for its YJ-21 BSMs & DF-27 IRBMs & here is what it has done so far:

    https://news.usni.org/2021/11/07/china-builds-missile-targets-shaped-like-u-s-aircraft-carrier-destroyers-in-remote-desert#:~:text=It's%20not%20the%20first%20time,times%20and%20is%20frequently%20repaired.

    https://news.usni.org/2021/11/09/second-u-s-aircraft-carrier-missile-target-spotted-in-chinese-desert

    2) Arjun Mk.3 will be part of the the FRCV family.

To VENKY: The IA will go for the 155mm/52-cal MGS built by Kalyani.

    A) In your reply to Venky you have mentioned that Indian Army would go for 155mm/52-cal Mounted Gun System built by Kalyani. Will it be Truck mounted version of Kalyani developed MAG-ER ? As you have mentioned that only 1 Prototype of 155mm/52-cal MGS co-developed by Kalyani Group & BEML, has been produced

    https://www.armyrecognition.com/images/stories/news/2022/october/India_unveils_new_MGS_155mm_8x8_truck-mounted_artillery_gun_system_925_001.jpg

While at least 6(Six) should have been manufactured for Field Testing Process.

what is the reason behind such a sluggish rate of development, while both of the Adversery of Indian Army have already inducted or under process of induction of such MGS in their arsenal ? Can a proven system like CAESAR be acquired off the self as a Stop Gap measure?

As this video stated that Sri Baba Kalyani expects to receive the order for 814 Mounted Gun System for the First Quarter of 2024.

  69. Hi Prasun
Thanks a lot for the reply. But based on the current Production rate of 24 a year and a planned 36 a year, it will take 5 years to just clear their current backlogs. So that's 6 years down the line before India starts receiving the new jets. So we are looking at a timeline of a minimum. 10 years before our aurforce plus naval requests are delivered. https://sldinfo.com/2023/03/dassault-report-march-2023/
    Thanks once again In advance.

    ReplyDelete
  70. To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) Perhaps in future. 2) Thought-process has existed since 2018. Here are 2 presentations by the IAF & IN:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXw9wzXI09w

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfSNT67mt90&t=43s

To SUMANTA NAG: A) Yes, the one that was shown at DEFEXPO-2022. B) The delay was due to the extended user-trials of the ATAGS, since the very same howitzer will be truck-mounted as the MGS solution. For the MGS, only mobility & platform stabilisation trials will be reqd, since the firing-trials have already been concluded for the ATAGS & hence unnecessary duplication of effort will be avoided. B) In the last quarter of this year, after ADANI Defence & Aerospace finishes supplying the initial batches of the VSHORADS missiles.

To VIN: The IN’s Rafale-M orders will be delivered between 36 months & 48 months of contract signature. If 114 Rafales are ordered by the IAF, then Dassault Aviation will be able to supply all of them within a 7-year timeframe.
