What Boeing has proposed is that the DRDO’s mission management system & search radars that have been developed for its proposed MMMA can easily be integrated with the P-8I airframe. Further technical negotiations are now underway, following which the order for 6 additional P-8Is will be placed. In addition, the MMMA systems developed by the DRDO can also be installed on a Coast Guard variant of the P-8I & if such a common-sensical approach is adopted, then the combined strength of LRMR/ASW & MMMA variants of the P-8Is in India will reach the 35-unit mark. The good news is that Kalyani is now cooperating with NAMMO to co-develop ramjet-powered 155mm projectiles:

Given the vast geographic distances to be covered by them in the Indian context, it is evident that what India requires more are not MALEUAVs driven by rotax engines (like Heron-1 or Hermes-900), but both MALE & HALE UAS platforms powered by turbofans. Prasun Da, could the possible acquisition of the Super Hornet influence the MRFA deal? F-15, F-16, Mig-35, Su-35, Gripen and Typhoon don't stand a chance. So it's basically Rafale vs F-18. Dassault had an advantage in terms of cost and repair and overhaul since we already have 36 Rafales. But that could change with Navy opting for the F-18. i think selecting FA18 over RafaleM will be a bad error in judgment for the Indian Navy to replace the Mig 29k as once TEDBF arrives these jets will become access and useless whereas if RafaleM is chosen after TEDBF arrives it can be used by IAF minus the tailhook, and with reinforced chassis and mid section those RafaleM can carry the 2.5 tonm Brahmos A in addition to 42 Sukhoi30 mki. so I think RAafale M is the best buy

If India wants to compete with China then we must revamp our technical education system. Earlier is better. Military must establish good engineering colleges. To SUJOY MAJUMDAR: The P-75 project was just a licenced-production project that did not involve sharing of IPRs related to structural matters, i.e. how to derive the hull-crush depth parameters, how to determine the platform buoyancy parameters, etc etc. Without such data, the baseline design limitations cannot be modified, i.e. compressed or lengthened. The same goes for the P-75I project, since the design will be an imported one whose design & performance parameter derivations will all be IPRs owned by foreign OEMs. So yes, from both P-75 & P-75I, domestically built clones is very much possible, but no modifications to the pressure-hull designs are possible as they will be extremely risks endeavours.
To PARTHASARATHI: In terms of marine engineering & naval architecture, Indian shipbuilders can easily compete with their PRC counterparts PROVIDED the vessel designs are frozen, i.e. the universal integrated hull outfitting & painting (IHOP) protocol must be adhered to. This is not the case with all Indian warshipbuilding projects, where concurrent design & construction is the norm. AI’s future is totally dependent on advances in NI, or natural intelligence. Without the latter, the former cannot advance & hence human resource development is imperative for any knowledge-based society.
To JUST_CURIOUS: What has changed is the worsening reliability of the MiG-29K fleet. Land-based variants of TEDBF is a possibility in case the AMCA project encounters technological challenges. IAC-2 will definitely be procured. ORCA is a figment of imagination of internet fanboys. No such project exists in the real world. For strategic air campaigns, a procuring a force of 12 Tu-22M3s is a distinct possibility for operating only within the IOR when armed with BrahMos-NG supersonic multi-role cruise missiles (for both maritime strike & land-attack). Operating such bombers over land is a no-brainer ever since the advent of LR-SAMs like the S-400 & HQ-9. That being the case, it remains to be seen who will operate them, the IAF or IN. That was probably what Ret’d ACM Arup Raha was referring to.

What Boeing has proposed is that the DRDO’s mission management system & search radars that have been developed for its proposed MMMA can easily be integrated with the P-8I airframe. Further technical negotiations are now underway, following which the order for 6 additional P-8Is will be placed. Prasun Da, could the possible acquisition of the Super Hornet influence the MRFA deal? F-15, F-16, Mig-35, Su-35, Gripen and Typhoon don't stand a chance. So it's basically Rafale vs F-18. Dassault had an advantage in terms of cost and repair and overhaul since we already have 36 Rafales. But that could change with Navy opting for the F-18. The fact that Tejas MWF will use the same engine could also work for Boeing. In that scenario it will be a difficult choice to make. Which one among the two is the preferred option?

Why India can't follow Turkey's footstep and modernize our private defense Industry. I am sure LNT can built a corvette which much more modern than MILGEM. But they will not get a chance.
What India need is Harpoon and Barak 8 equipped Corvette for coastal defence so that frigates and destroyers can be sent to high seas. Frigates and Destroyers can be made by government shipyards and corvette and minesweeper by private shipyards.

Even assuming that the defence equipment purchase from the US is a transactional relationship, should we not restrict that to equipment that will help to counter China? I really don't see how buying F-18s for the IAF will as the US would keep a check on how it is used, especially against Pakistan, which is where we need it.
Should we not restrict the purchases to weapons which will help to counter the Chinese Navy and perhaps something to counter the Chinese along LAC?

i think selecting FA18 over RafaleM will be a bad error in judgment for the Indian Navy to replace the Mig 29k as once TEDBF arrives these jets will become access and useless whereas if RafaleM is chosen after TEDBF arrives it can be used by IAF minus the tailhook, and with reinforced chassis and mid section those RafaleM can carry the 2.5 tonm Brahmos A in addition to 42 Sukhoi30 mki. so I think RAafale M is the best buy

The MAREEM AIP module needs to be tested in sea-trials involving an in-service single-hulled Scorpene SSK & only after it demonstrates its safety features & functionality at-sea can the MAREEM be service-inducted. This AIP module cannot be tested on-board any double-hulled SSK like the Type 877EKM.

It seems we are at the crossroads. Our armed forces are dependent on Russian arma and ammo. We also have dependence on Russia in strategic economic sectors like nuclear energy, oil etc.
We are also facing pressure from west to cut out or minimize relations with Russia which we obviously cannot do. How do you see future relations developing with Russia, what impact will the corridor through Chabahar port to Russia will have on developing economic relationship with Russia? What about payment modes, especially if Russia is totally cut off from Western payment systems? Currently, dirhams and yuan is being used for coal payments? But that may not be a feasible approach for the private sector if we are going to explore the Pharma, apparels and consumer items sector where there are opportunities.

Just now completed ' The Last War ' by Mr Pravin Sawhney. Few things may be just borderline of science fiction but some of them may be true.
I am aware of Chinese capabilities of commercial ship building. They are good but not as good as Japan or even Korea but years ahead of India.
Let me be frank that China is way ahead in Marine engineering and Naval architecture. Their workforce is also much more dedicated.
Probably same is true for other engineering departments also.
The main problem I feel in standard of engineering education. Beside IITs and NITs and beside some good universities like Jadavpur or Anna most of government and private engineering colleges are just certificate mill.
If India wants to compete with China then we must revamp our technical education system. Earlier is better.
Military must establish good engineering colleges. And no one other than STEM graduates can join as officers.
AI is the future. And earlier we understand it is better.

To Venkatramana Siddheshwar: One must not conflate SLRs with carbines. They are for 2 distinct reqmts.
To INDRAJIT: China is using this incident as a test case for mapping out the new Sri Lankan govt’s strategic manoeuvring space vis-Ã -vis India & the US. India’s fears on the other hand are baseless since the YW-5 is neither a spy vessel nor a survey vessel used for seabed mapping & hence India is over-reacting.
To SUJOY MAJUMDAR: The P-75 project was just a licenced-production project that did not involve sharing of IPRs related to structural matters, i.e. how to derive the hull-crush depth parameters, how to determine the platform buoyancy parameters, etc etc. Without such data, the baseline design limitations cannot be modified, i.e. compressed or lengthened. The same goes for the P-75I project, since the design will be an imported one whose design & performance parameter derivations will all be IPRs owned by foreign OEMs. So yes, from both P-75 & P-75I, domestically built clones is very much possible, but no modifications to the pressure-hull designs are possible as they will be extremely risks endeavours.
To PARTHASARATHI: In terms of marine engineering & naval architecture, Indian shipbuilders can easily compete with their PRC counterparts PROVIDED the vessel designs are frozen, i.e. the universal integrated hull outfitting & painting (IHOP) protocol must be adhered to. This is not the case with all Indian warshipbuilding projects, where concurrent design & construction is the norm. AI’s future is totally dependent on advances in NI, or natural intelligence. Without the latter, the former cannot advance & hence human resource development is imperative for any knowledge-based society.
To JUST_CURIOUS: What has changed is the worsening reliability of the MiG-29K fleet. Land-based variants of TEDBF is a possibility in case the AMCA project encounters technological challenges. IAC-2 will definitely be procured. ORCA is a figment of imagination of internet fanboys. No such project exists in the real world. For strategic air campaigns, a procuring a force of 12 Tu-22M3s is a distinct possibility for operating only within the IOR when armed with BrahMos-NG supersonic multi-role cruise missiles (for both maritime strike & land-attack). Operating such bombers over land is a no-brainer ever since the advent of LR-SAMs like the S-400 & HQ-9. That being the case, it remains to be seen who will operate them, the IAF or IN. That was probably what Ret’d ACM Arup Raha was referring to.

How reliable are these assesments of India's deterrent? They claim India has about 160 warheads but only about 10-12 Agni I, II and III with no Agni IV/V as yet, with warheads limited to 40 kt or less. The same people attribute a larger nuclear missile force to Pak even though Pak BMs are less tested. They claim India has no MIRV capability.
Are they just indulging in wild speculation ?
