Aero India 2023 Expo Highlights

On-site hospitality, HAL-style!
Shown above are the AAM sub-systems that the IAF has been hawking since 2017 for indigenisation. No industrial takers of such offers as yet.
The above (generating 46kN thrust) is presently undergoing high-altitude tests at Zhukovsky in Russia. If a suitable afterburner can be developed, then this turbofan can become a likely candidate for powering the HLFT-42 LIFT.
HAL had to undertake a major re-design of the HTFE turbofan, which has resulted in developmental delays. The engine core will now be ready for high-altitude flight-tests by mid-2025. In contrast, development of the much more complex HTSE-1200 turboshaft engine (below) has made significant progress, including the commencement of high-altitude flight-tests of the engine core late last year.
The SAFRAN Aneto-1K turboshaft engine that has been selected for powering the IMRH. That was the reason why this engine was exhibited at the SAFRAN booth.
Below are the new HAL-developed products.
Shown below are some BEL-built products.
Shown below is the PG-HSLD precision-guided munition.
Bharat Dynamics Ltd stupidly labelled the anti-helicopter laser-guided CLGM as an ATGM.
Munitions shown by Bharat Dynamics Ltd.
CATS Project Poster.
Tejas Mk.1 maintenance training simulator.
Cooling system for the twin wingtip-mounted HBJ pods of the Su-30MKI.
MRF-built aircraft tyres.
The above missile is not a BVRAAM, but is a surface-launched supersonic aerial target.
Notice the changed configuration of the rocket nozzle? Even the twin lateral thrusters of HELINA removed to save the launch-helicopter airframe from damage.
However, the booth of Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) continued to pass off the NAG as HELINA (see above) to all visitors, including official foreign delegations and senior Indian military officials! Perhaps, this was because the CMD of BDL is a former naval Commodore and hence is unable to distinguish between the NAG and HELINA!!!
Nose-mounted S-band AESA antenna is a new feature for the AEW & CS Mk.2 platform.
Above are the PGMs being produced by Adani Defence & Aerospace.
Adani-produced artillery ammunition rounds (above).
ELBIT Systems-developed SDR Manpacks built by Alpha Technologies/Adani Defence & Aerospace for the Indian Army.
HAL-built ALH Mk.3 of ICGS with nose-mounted ELTA-supplied EL/M-2022H search radar.
Helicopter-mounted low-recoil machine gun.
HAL is re-designing and upgrading the PTAE-7 turbojet to boost its fuel capacity for the CATS WARRIOR loyal wingman.
QR-SAM exhibits shown at the booth of Bharat Dynamics Ltd.
Guidance kits for artillery munitions shown at the IDEX pavilion.
Astra-1 BVRAAM and DARE-developed HBJ pod mounted on Tejas Mk.1 L-MRCA.
Tejas AF Mk.2 MWF
The ADA-designed TEDBF was shown as an insignificant exhibit.
DRDO-developed family of weapons ejector racks for a wide variety of MRCAs.
NUKON Aerospace-built quad-launcher (above) for the SAAW PGM. Shown below are the exhibits of the DRDO/Centre for Airborne Systems.
Pralay SS-BSM Poster.

DRDO-developed AESA RF seeker (left) and electro-mechanical RF seeker for BVRAAMs, QR-SAM, VL-SR-SAM and Akash-NG.
Below are posters of indigenous RF seekers. Presently, the solid-stated TWTs are being imported from JSC Agat of Russia. Indigenously developed solid-state TWTs are presently undergoing advanced flight-tests.
Shown below are posters of the Akash-NG E-SHORADS meant for the Indian Air Force. The RF seeker originally developed for the Astra-1 BVRAAM also serves as the baseline design for RF seekers developed for the Akash-NG E-SHORADS, QR-SAM and VL-SR-SAM.

They are supposed to use 360 deg coverage radar with round antenna?

What happened ellipsoidal primary radar fabrication which shown in DRDO "Technology Focus" a couple of years ago? Flushed down the drain or brushed under the carpet??

Hi Prasun,

Is BDL going make Lora missiles? If so will they have the 400 km range? And what about predator hawk, will that be made by BDL?

Prasun Da, is there any update about the missing IDAS suit that was supposed to go onboard the LCH?

What exactly is happening with the LUH? Is it a good machine or trash like that pathetic thing called Dhruv which has seen more than 20 crashes and was forced upon the military in the name of indigenisation?

1. Why is there no model or buzz or news about TEDBF at AeroIndia ? This is backed by Navy itself.
2. Why this overhype on HLFT? Looks like another IJT, though it is not good to discourage.
3. If HAL can spare funds of its own for HLFT, what prevented them from doing so for MkII prototype, there was a considerable time difference between CDR approval and CCS approval.

Hi

This is a very good statement by the Defence Minister. Components of the platform too should be made in India, not imported

To AMIT BISWAS: Airbus Military Aircraft, of course, as it is the airframe's OEM. The radome-mounted AESA radar with 4 arrays is a separate project involving widebody airframes like the A330 or B.777.

To DASHU: Tathaastu!

To SRINIVASA NANDURI: The LORA is being shown at the BEL booth, not BDL booth. Have uploaded the Pralay SS-BSM poster above.

To KAPIL: No word yet on the defensive countermeasures suite for either the LCH or the LUH. But both will have sensors & suites similar to that of the Rudra.

To RAGHU: Regardless of what anyone says or insists upon, market/business realities dictate that only components & sub-systems will be made by Indian vendors.

To SUSAN: No word about them, except that HAL is re-designing the PTAE-7 turbojet.

To VENKY: This was a really truncated AERO INDIA expo. Missing are all the outdoor exhibits that were present in previous Aero India expos. Exhibitors at the expo were saying that they had to come only with token exhibits since they had expended their money on the DEFEXPO-2022 expo last October. The organisation of this Aero India was atrocious, probably the worst since the expo's birth.

AMIT BISWAS said...

Astra missile mounting configuration for lca looks so bulky with multiple layers..any details about the same

There was an announcement made on Air India buying 470 jets.
Logically the announcement and the token signing of agreement should have been done during Aero India, this is how it is done everywhere.
So now Aero India will remain a defense show. The external exhibits will reduce since after MRFA, there is no big deal on the horizon.

Prasun da thanks for sharing these insights about Aero India 2023. Two questions:

1. Does Adani manufacture PGMs in house or do they simply import the PGMs from some other vendors?

2. Are composites for India's hypersonic weapons like Silicon carbide fibers and carbon fibres of higher grade still being imported?

Thank You

Prasun sir ye ejector racks Jo DRDO guys have designed, are they for firing both eastern n Western origin missiles or just for eastern n indigenous one's??
That plastic at tip of racks if for antennae for communicating with missile?

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To KAUSHIK: It is the same as the PR-AEW & CS Mk.2. Only the poster's formatting is different. The content/data is the same.

To SUJOY MAJUMDAR: 1) The PGMs are all DRDO-designed. It must be noted that ADANI has acquired a few companies like ALPHA Technologies, Punj Lloyd etc etc that had manufacturing facilities. 2) Yes, from Russia.

To ASHISH GAUTAM: Ejector racks are customised for their payloads & hence those shown at the expo are for DRDO-developed PGMs. For the Rafale, for instance, the racks come from ALKAN of France, which has teamed up with NUKON Aerospace for product-support of such ejectors.

Prasunda,

1) If India is dependent on Russia for higher grade carbon fiber, would it be able to continue importing that from Russia for strategic programs in the future, given the fallout of the war in Ukraine ?

2) Would the upcoming reliance carbon fiber plant be able to manufacture the grades of carbon fiber we currently import from Russia ?

Hi Prasun
Is the design of Arjun MBT capable of facing the ATGMs or is similar to the T-72s/T-90 that seem to have a basic design flaw that makes them highly vulnerable to top down attacks

Pratap said...

Prasun Da,

1) Why and when did we buy LORA missiles from Israel?

2) Has the Navy finalised Rafale M? If yes then wouldn't it be sensible to order bulk purchase of 26 + 112 jets combined?

3) ADA Director is saying that Tejas MWF would be ready for production by 2027. How realistic is that?

4) Russians are offering to collaborate on everything from Armata to FGFA and Medium transport aircraft. MTA looks like a tempting proposition. Should we go for it?

5) There are reports that Germany is offering the Lynx infantry combat vehicle. Should we go for it or develop one on our own using the Zorawar LT chassis?

6) Is Ka-226 deal dead, or are we still considering a limited purchase?

7) How does LUH fare against Ka-226? Is having single engine a disadvantage? Ka-226 appears to have advantage over LUH thanks to it's twin rotors and engines.

8) Can we expect orders for Kalyani MaRG 155, ATAGS, Akash NG, QRSAM and MGS 155 this year?

9) Does HAL have any plans for a Chinook class heavy transport helicopter? After IMRH it should be the next logical step.

10) When are we going to pick a partner for joint development of AMCA engine? Should we go with Safran or Rolls Royce?

Prasun,

1--any news of desi engines - HTFE, HTSE? what is the progress on these & marine kaveri?
2-- Will iaf go IL76MD 90AE conversion anytime soon? i think they should convert all IL78's to strategic transporters as a part of IL76 conversion to MD90AE version thus giving IAF @17 transporters. these will be very useful esp to transport tanks to china borders across ladahk/sikkim & other high areas.IL78's to be replced by MMTT/MMRT's
3- how soon with the IAI B767 MMTT frutify? Can you pls share details on the same from its display in the show. My take is IAf should opt for 12 of these +3-4 A330 MMRT for more strategic missions across the indian ocean. IAF/HAL should also get involved in the boeing unmanned refueller programme -shortlisted as a part of US Navy MQ25 competition. Desi partner can work on making a land based version of the unmanned refueller as well. this can aid in deep pentration missions esp across tibet.
4-- Why no emphasis on TEDBF in aero india?
5-- read somewhere hat IAf wants to go for 40-60 odd MTA- airbus A400M seems to be the best bet but given the number of countries involved in its workshare will IAf opt for it? Why has japan not comeover to display its Kawasaki C2 & C1's? those can be a good options to cover a spectrum from 20K -40K tonnage & given the large order size cost would certainly come down + India can demand a lions share of production to be done by desi companies thus indigenizing it with option to develop future variants

6- the indigenous EW/Jammer pod which is put on the outermost pylon on MK1A seems to be pretty bulky than the israeli ELM8222. why change ? the desi one is primarily for Su30 wingtips. Also in future can the MK1A host this EW Pylon in a dual rack config at the outer most pylon so that it can carry 1 additional SRAAM (SRAAM+ Jammer on 1 side) & the other side anyways will have 2 SRAAM's as its has been depicted by ADA/HAL---https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianDefense/comments/whra72/how_accurate_are_these_specs_and_will_every_tejas/

To SUJOY MAJUMDAR: Here’s a video of Adani Defence & Aerospace’s pavilion:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrI_DbITBWk

Drones on display: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5MaPaNsWyI

Most of the ones shown by NewSpace are mere conceptual designs:

To VIKRAM GUHA: LoLz! Absolutely FAKE NEWS, just like the earlier speculation about the IN ordering the RAMPAGE. The LORA as a coastal defence system is presently operational only with the Vietnam People’s Navy in the Paracel Islands along with the NPO Mash-built K-300P Bastion. There is ONLY an MoU in existence with BEL and not firm contract, as stated here:

https://twitter.com/BEL_CorpCom/status/1625877332509749248?cxt=HHwWgMDTybq0o5AtAAAA

I wonder what exactly are the achievements of the DRDO’s so-called ‘scienfitic community stalwarts:

Have any of them developed some product/solution that no one else previously had not in the world?

What a sordid way of showcasing the IAC-1/Vikrant:

Lastly, here are the 3 show dailies of FORCE on Aero India 2023:

To ASHWATTHAMA: 1 & 2: It is not just about the composites resins, but processed co-cured composite materials that are being imported, be it for HAL-built helicopters or Tejas family of LCAs. Only he moulding is done inside autoclaves in India. Therefore anyone producing synthetic resins in India makes no difference at all. It is like the entire Astra-1 BVRAAM’s seeker being made in India but the most-critical solid-state TWT of the seeker being imported from Russia, or the inertial navigation system designed & developed by the DRDO’s RCI, but the critical ring-laser gyro being imported from IAI. Only by going into the details when conversing with product designers/developers of DRDO & industry can such details emerge, which is what I do. Others, like ‘I wanna believe’ internet fanboys of which there are several out there, don’t bother to go into such details because they are unaware of such details.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To VIN: The Arjun family of MBTs will remain vulnerable to top-attack ATGMs or LAWs until it is equipped with active protection system.

To ANWAY: LoLz! Arey yaar, why dabble in such groundless conspiracy theories? One must rely more on sound common sense & logical reasoning to arrive at rational conclusions & assessments.

To PRATAP: 1) That is FAKE NEWS. 2) Not yet. 3) That depends on how fast the IAF’s NFTC can complete the flight-trials with the 4 projected MWF prototypes. 4) The answer is a firm NO. Again, apply sound common-sense by examinining all publicly available RFIs & RFPs where you will notice that the IA, IN & IAF hve since the past 2 decades been insisting on compliance with Western certification standards, like NATO’s STANAG standards. In such circumstances, Russian OEMs don’t stand any chance at all. 5) The CVRDE/L & T FICV solution is far better than the Lynx ICV. 6) Totally dead ever since HAL began developing the LUH. 7) Even with 2 engines, only a single gearbox is used, so using a single-engine for LUH does not pose any limitations at all. 8) No, not this year. All those products still need to undergo further refinements & fine-tuning, all of which will get completed by late 2024. 9) No such plans exist. Even the IMRH design is flawed because: A) The twin sponsoons are too short & need lengthening for housing more fuel-tanks, just like in the Sikorsky S-92. B) It is a no-brainer to arm the IMRH with weapons-carrying pylons & ejectors, since the IAF already has the Prachand LCH for escorting the IMRH into the battlefield. The IAF had ordered armed Mi-17s & Mi-17V-5s at a time when armed platforms like the LCH weren’t available. Now the principal emphasis of the IMRH’s design should be on enhancing payload/fuel capacity. 10) There’s still plenty of time left, since only the AMCA Mk.2 is projected to use ‘desi’ turbofans.

To UNKNOWN: 1) Because it can’t be. The problem was always the Tejas’s short airframe length due to which the EW suite could not be located internally. That’s why the MWF’s airframe length had to be increased. 2) Yes. 3) Laws of physics dictate that when using a solid-state TWT the seeker becomes active only 7 seconds after receiving electrical power, whereas for AESA seeker, activation begins within 3 seconds of receiving electrical power.

To SANTOSH: It is FAKE NEWS!

7- what do you make of the TATA ISTAR jet offering showcased.. ISTAR has been in the news for a long time .. given the MQ('s now being bought will ISTAR be reqd?
8- How feasible will it be for HAl to tie up with AVX to have its own version of this---https://tacairnet.com/2015/04/21/the-kiowa-modification-we-likely-will-never-see/. Also now that Boeing-Sirosky Defaint X has lost to valor 280 in US FARA contest. Should'nt HAL co-operate on the push propeller concept fo its ALH & IMRH copters?
9- Shouldn't all wings of the armed foces go for valor 280 later in the decade ? esp if IN indeeds revives its LPD/LHD requirements. These will be very handy.. https://breakingdefense.com/2018/08/bell-pushes-v-280-gunship-shipboard-variants-recon-in-works/

To VSJ: 1) The PAF wants to have at least J-10Cs while the PA wants about 600 VT-4s. 2) Those are all conceptual exhibits by the €DRDO’s CABS. For example, by applying sound common-sense we can get to know that just like everywhere else in the world, the nosecones of the airborne testbed as well as other combat-support platforms will have to be shaped identically to the nosecones of operational MRCAs, i.e. if the Uttam AESA-MMR’s variant is to go on board an AEW & CS or TEJAS-af Mk.2 or TEDBF or AMCA, then identical nosecones will have to be mounted on the airborne testbed, and not a universal nosecone.

To JUST_CURIOUS: Marine Kaveri gas-turbine project was foreclosed a long time ago. 2) Unlikely. Instead, Rusia may well buy back those IL-76MDs & IL-78MKIs for use by the Russian Air Force. 3) IAI has already supplied B.767 MRTTs & can do so anytime. 4) Because priority is being accorded to the development of Tejas-AF Mk.2 MWF & the AMCA Mk.1. 6) The EW pod shown on Tejas Mk.1 is only a high-band jammer whereas the EL/L-8222 can handle both mid-band & high-band jamming & hence the latter is longer than the DARE-developed HBJ pod. 7) TATA displayed only a scale-model of a small bizjet. 8) India’s end-users are far too conservative to embrace such revolutionary designs. 8) Only 1 poster was shown about CATS, which I have uploaded above.

To RAD: Here’s what you can read up on Vayu Link:

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/iaf-develops-indigenous-vayulink-platform-for-jammer-proof-communication-with-base-station-aero-india-2023/articleshow/98011207.cms

It must be noted that even GPS satellite signals can become unavailable during bad weather. Hence, it will be better to use $-G/5-G cellular networks for data-linking purposes. The Al Tariq PGM is originally from Serbia & so far only an MoU has been inked WRT its offer to India.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To VSJ: My apologies, the number is 60. In today’s battlefield, loitering PGMs & swarm drones are highly effective against both mobile & entrenched infantry/mechanised formations for as long as battlefield situational awareness platforms—manned or unmanned—are available as combat-support platforms. That’s why electronic air-defence is fast emerging as a new arena & comprises both soft-kill (electronic jamming) & hard-kill (DEW like laser effectors).

To SOUMYA RAY: The challenges for any AESA-MMR developmental effort are 3-fold: A) development of the hardware. B) development of software algorithms. C) integration of the AESA-MMR with the rest of the fire-control system of the airborne platform. Hardware development is fairly easy & is done at the laboratory-level. Software algorithm development too is easy since most of it was already done for the EMB-145I Netra AEW & CS’s S-band AESA antenna & thus involves a simple migration of the reqd 18 modes of operation from S-band to the Uttam’s X-band. The last one is the most challenging since a fully functional AESA-MMR has to be synchronised with the rest of the on-board avionics suites & it must be ensured that the fully integrated fire-control system can withstand the high G-loads of the MRCA while at the same time avoiding EMI effects, for instance the AESA-MMR interfering with one’ own radar warning receivers (RWR). Hence, airborne testbeds like the CABS Do-228 & ADA’s Tejas Mk.1 LSP-series aircraft have been used. 2) The SAMAR air-defence system is a no-brainer simply because the IAF itself during Aero India 2023 was offering the R-73E & R-27R missiles for indigenisation, since their Ukrainian OEM, Artem State Joint-Stock Company, has been destroyed by Russian air-attacks over the past 1 year. Then there’s the need to develop an X-band fire-control radar for guiding the semi-active R-27Rs while for the R-73E to be put to use one must have the accompanying ground-based IRST sensor & a helmet-mounted sight for target lock-on. Neither of these exist as of now. 3) QR-SAM is meant for engaging low-flying aerial targets cruising only up to 500 metres over land. As I have stated above, the same family of RF seekers are on QR-SAM, VL-SR-SAM, Akash-1 BVRAAM & Akash-NG E-SHORADS. The posters I’ve uploaded above WRT Akash-NG clearly state that.

To ANWAY: LoLz! The over-enthusiastic chatter-mouths from BDL & BEL seem to be putting the cast before the horse. The figures mentioned are for the expected orders, not for orders already placed. That’s because the BSR of the QR-SAM has some serious deficiencies, i.e. not being able to detect low-flying helicopters at the desired distances & hence the BSR vehicle requires re-designing. This is the re-engineered design:

systems will make kinfe thrust and hold and then attack the strategic locations occupation and holding them will make things bit more possible !! I am not sure if such systems can take higher ground and then lock on to lower flying aircraft's due to ground clutter !!

The world over the effective low level radar like the SAAB giraffe and others are always elevated. like u said the laws of radar physics are not amenable to drdo idiots!

IN the picture you have shown ,can the 4 faced new qrsam aesa radar be elevated to a greater height by a mast or is that fixed at level shown? again the aesa antenna looks smaller relatively than the truck mounted one... i dont see any IFF antenna as well?

why was there no pic or model of the ak630 air defence weapon that was proposed by you at the show? does it mean it has been dropped?.

does the f-35 entry a show of force to china or a carrot to us for being available to buy? will it be more cost effective to build our own so called stealth AMCA than buy the f-35 and of course the advantage of building one by us.

Hello Prasun,
Regarding the comment made in the force video (at around 3:40) about the PM being shocked and capitulating in four days - I am trying to understand how India could agree to give away territory based on a skirmish that did not even involve guns, as is being claimed in the video. If true, there has to be other reasons or engagements or threats from the Chinese side that led us to conclude that the knife fight at Galwan was a good enough sampling of where we stand vis-a-vis China militarily!! Please share your wisdom on this!

Thanks!

Hello Sir,

Hope you are doing well!

I have 2 questions, both not related to defence.

First, the Adani issue. It is a fact that Adani's valuation literally skyrocketed even though we had a pandemic. However, should that rise be attributed to fraud or just very risky business strategy of loan-fed growth. If it is indeed a case of fraud, then shouldn't it be a matter of shame for us that not a single person in country of more than 1.3 billion people was able to detect the fraud. What is SEBI doing?

Second question is regarding the issue with BBC. Even a politically not-so-bright individual like me knows what kind of response one can expect if one takes the kind of action that government of India took against BBC. Yet the tax raid happed. I do believe that British government use the likes of BBC as a foreign policy tool. However, does the government seriously believe that they will be able to intimidate a global media organisation like BBC with just a tax raid? Don't you think it is doing more harm to BJP government than any good? We all know that this was not the first documentary critical of BJP government and will certainly not be the last. If tomorrow a CNN or an Al Jazeera air a documentary criticizing the government, then will the government again respond with a tax raid on them? or is the government trying to intimidate the domestic media, by sending a signal that they are not afraid of foreign media and if any domestic media criticize the government, then they will receive worse treatment. To be honest, I do like BJPP government pro-economic growth approach but I hope they do not get cocky due to their electoral success.

Apologies for the long question. Looking forward to your reply.

Thank you!

Prasun da,

Why does the parlay missile have millimeter wave radar seeker? What purpose does it serve?

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To SATYAKI: A short high-intensity war between China & India is indeed possible between 2024 & 2026 & it will be limited only to areas along the LAC & is unlikely to spread into the hinterland of either country. Hence, I disagree with future war scenarios that envisage IAF air bases being attacked inside India’s hinterland. In addition, in terms of expansion of military habitats & transportation infrastructure, China is laying emphasis on such developments within eastern/central TAR & Sichuan province, with similar developments along Ladakh slated for completion only by the end of this decade. All this indicates that the primary threats will be faced by Sikkim & Arunachal Pradesh by 2026.

To TECHNOLOGY, PHOTOGRAPHY & TRAVEL: LoLz! You seem to be competing against JOYDEEP GHOSH when it comes to undertaking ‘flights of fancy’. Just ask yourself a few simple question, like why has the IAF not yet shown the passive/active target acquisition system for ‘SAMAR’? If it has been or is to be inducted into service, then why has the IAF not yet announced it & has not hailed it as a major in-house innovation? Why have to date SAMs been used as ASMs & AAMs (both Iran & Russia have done it & used it with success), but no AAM has been used as a SAM? Why have MANPADS like Stinger, Igla & Mistral not been used as AAMs by MRCAs? Since the OEM for the R-27R & R-27T is Ukrainian, it would have been fairly easy for OJSC ARTEM to bulk-produce them for ground-based air-defence. Yet that has not happened. Why? The answer are elementary: SAMs have airframe bodies made of thicker materials while AAMs don’t, because the former have to undergo higher stress tolerances. The materials used for the airframe of Python-5 SRAAM are, for example, much thinner than that of a Python-5 used by SpyDer-SR SHORADS. Same goes for the IRIS-T & MICA & QR-SAM & VL-SR-SAM. Coming now to using legacy AAMs as SAMs, the problems are 2-fold: re-lifing & refurbishing. For the former, the IAF has experienced that it is possible to do so only 1.15 times & even then there have been 3 in-flight accidents in which 3 IAF MRCAs were damaged. Refurbishment involves replacing the AAM’s internal sub-systems with new-technology substitutes. This isn’t now available from either Russia or Ukraine. Hence, neither re-lifing nor reburbishments are economically viable options for the R-27€R/T & R-73E. Consequently, even the mere thought of using legacy AAMs as SAMs is an absolute no-brainer. Luckily for you, all this was explained at a seminar on aerial armament sustenance during Aero India 2023 here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWjOgZ4kdIA&list=PLZ66LjNh6MUc4dHZ_AeQT6jJEU2gp8RHy&index=6

Therefore, it will do you much good if you take the FAKE NEWS being peddled by spurious websites like the one you’ve quoted with a fistful of salt. BTW, since 2017 the IAF has been asking private Indian industry to indigenise the seekers of the R-27T & R-73E, but there have been no takers. This time too the IAF booth at Aero India 2023 was asking the same. I have photos of it & will upload them later today.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To RAD: The scale-model showing the pedestal-mounted four-faced antenna can be hydraulically elevated up to a height of 7 metres above the truck. IFF antenna is on the Battalion-level surveillance vehicle, not on the Battery-level radar vehicle. As I had stated earlier, this year’s expo was extremely truncated, with both Indian & foreign OEMs having very limited products to exhibit. LEONARDO Group had a booth but it was empty of exhibits! Even the 4 alloted booths meant for selling beverages were full of CISF security personnel & only a Starbucks booth was allowed to serve beverages & snacks. The F-35 JSFs at the expo were meant to rub Russia’s nose into the ground, especially since Russia failed to bring its Su-57 FGFA. But since India has now signed all 4 foundational agreements with the US, India now joins the ranks of Israel, Australia, Japan & Republic of Korea as major military non-NATO partner of the US & consequently, there is a chance that the F-35 may be offered only to the Indian Navy & not the IAF.

BTW, the BDL booth this time showed a Nag ATGM with HELINA sticker that had all 4 rear thrusters of the Nag. The latest variant of the HELINA whose photo I have uploaded above was shown at the DRDO pavilion I will upload the BDL booth’s photo later today. This was perhaps because the BDL’s CMD is a retired naval Commodore & therefore he cannot tell the difference between different ATGMs!!!

To ICU40: The simple answer is that India’s conventional deterrence posture against China has failed. Nor has the whole story about the Galwan clash come up as yet. For instance, there have been similar clashes before, but this time why did tempers flare to such an extent that both sides engaged in hand-to-hand combat of the type that proved to be fatal? Was Col Santosh Babu under such enormous pressure from his immediate superior, the Brigade CO, which in turn forced him to take drastic measures? Why was China continue to insist that the IA should apologise for Col Babu's insubordination?

To SHESHANK: Because the Pralay SS-BSM comes in different versions & a MMW seeker-equipped variant is only one of them for attacking SAM sites & railway marshaling yards.

To SOUMYADIP: Both SEBI & the Adani Group itself have committed to conducting independent audits of the Group’s business activities & prudence demands that we wait for the outcomes of both. As for the BBC documentary ban & Govt of India’s reaction against the utterances of George Soros, all I can say is that the Govt of India has all the powers at its disposal to come up with a documentary that details the results of the Indian Supreme Court & should do so, instead of staging IT ‘surveys’. In addition, the Govt of India elevated George Soros’ status by coming up with official reactions by some ministers. So now a non-state actor like Soros has moral equivalence with an Indian minister! The response should instead have come from some BJP spokesperson. All in all, the Govt of India’s responses to such incidences is reflective of a lack of self-respect/self-confidence & a very low sense of self-esteem.

why was the latest aero india a flop,?

there were hardly any visitors around,, due to modi coming?

is it cheaper to put a scene recognition sensor on the pralay like the Israeli agm 145 or a costly imaging radar?

as it is the f-35 has a poor load out , when it takes of from a ski ramp the load out is going to be horrible. It can carry subsonic cruise missiles if so internally? obviously we cant put a bramos NG on it. So whats the big deal about the f-35 for the Navy?

do u think having reaction control jets on the VSHORADS is a good idea? who is going to make the dual band ir seeker for it,?

Prasun da,

Not so long ago Turkey was kicked out of the F35 program because they purchased S400. What has changed that US is trying to woo India with F35 now?

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To SATYAKI: Only those areas of Arunachal Pradesh that have been given Mandarin language names (15 in all) by China.

To RAD: It is a Kalyani-RAFAEL logo. Aero India 2023 expo was a low-key affair from exhibitor’s standpoint because the expo’s dates were announced only 4 months prior to the expo’s staging. Everywhere else in the world such dates are announced 2 years in advance! Pralay can also have the same type of X-band SAR radar sensor as that on BrahMos-1 & Nirbhay. F-35 will have internal weapons load only for the initial air-strikes, after which it, just like the AMCA scale-models shown, it will be able to carry wing-mounted payloads as well.

To KUNAL: You’ve completely missed the fine point, i.e. Smriti Irani holds a ministerial portfolio & is thus a minister of the Union Cabinet. Consequently, any statement made by her comes as the official statement of the GoI in response to utterances from a non-state actor—a false then equivalence emerges. This is the problem when ministers also start wearing the hats of party spokespersons. The two should be separated. Even the Indian MEA’s S Jaishankar should have been dismissive about it instead of trying to psycho-analyse Soros. By not doing so he too made a big mistake. As for her utterances, there was no nuance & instead was a sign of desperation, over-hype & panic. Do you really think anyone with US$1 billion can destabilise India? If yes, then our security agencies are either of no good, or their early-warning red-flags are being ignored by the GoI. Such are the implications of defending the irrational statements emanating from Indian ministerial-level officials of the GoI.

To INDRAJIT: That’s precisely why I had stated that the F-35 is likely to be offered ONLY to the Indian Navy (which has not ordered the S-400) & not to the IAF, which is now receiving the S-400s.

Hi Dr Raj, till the time indian history writings ADHIKAAR is institutionally not indegenised and therewith decolonised, this problem would continue to fester. Our ministry of culture is housing people of the mindset of Raj Gupta and thats where the institutional problem is. Then these narratives enter governments policy making, which is tragic. Now based on critical race theory, critical caste theory is entering through Harvard University in India. It is saying caste discrimination is institutionlaised and the institutions therefore need to be structurally changed. This may result into reservations in private companies also therby impacting competitiveness of Indian industry. None of the indian universities have bothered to counter these thought logically. Hell they are clueless about it and are actually lapping up what Harvard is saying. In China, they have ring fenced them selves very well from such external meddling entering their policy framework. No wonder why their gdp grew above 10 percent for more than a decade!

To NIKHIL: So are you implying that the billions of US$ at the disposal of Soros will result in massive vote-buying inside India & cause the BJP to lose the 2024 general elections€? Is that your understanding of India’s democratic functioning?

To SATYAKI: 1) of course. 2) That depends on how the PLAAF will wage the air campaign, i.e. whether it will mount immediate air-support sorties, or will desist from doing so & leave it to the PLGF’s Army Aviation Corps to conduct such sorties with attack helicopters. That’s because missile strikes by BMs & cruise missiles by the PLARF will invite retaliation by India with BrahMos-1 & Pralay missiles.

To KUNAL: So if behind S Jaishankar there is no BJP logo or Ashok Chakra whenever he is making any statement does that then mean that he is neither a member of the BJP nor a minister of the Govt of India? Just analyse the irrationality & stupidity of your argument. You are trying to equate symbolism with the substantive. WRT Pakistan, it is a 1% republic, not an Islamic republic. And this 1%, comprising human resources from across the political divide, has no intention of surrendering their existing privileges. Consequently, for the future, it will continue to be unstable like wobbling Jelly, which of course will pose several challenges for India, like the unceasing violations of Indian airspace by drones originating from Pakistan & ending up in southern Jammu & northern Punjab. To KUNAL: Arey yaar, When asked about Soros, all that S Jaishankar should have said WITHOUT uttering even the name of Soros was that: everybody is entitled to their own opinions, but what should be crystal-clear & common-sensical to everyone is that India's destiny will be determined by Indian citizens & not by any non-state actor. And as recent events have proven (in Turkey), this Govt of India believes in serving humanity first & foremost as one of the earliest responders to any humanitarian tragedy.

Had the above been said, all of Soros' utterances would have been drowned into totl insignificance. By taking Soros' name, S Jaishankar violated the rules of international diplomacy that are taught to every IFS intern, thereby according legitimacy to non-state actors like George Soros. The same also applies to Smriti Irani, for she did not renounce her ministership before the press conference. If India states from time to time that she believes in international rules of the game, then she should abide by it in a consistent manner & not on a case-by-case basis. That's why when a BJP functionary had last year made some derogatory statements about the Holy Prophet, it was the BJP that had issued a clarification & listed out the corrective measures taken, thereby ensuring equivalence. That same principle should have been adhered to this time as well WRT Soros.

This is because the IMRH can be used as ship born awacs with aesa radar panels stuck flush on the sides of the IMRH to reduce drag rather than the a clumsy rotating antenna.
also it can be used for EW as well. There is ample room for equipment inside. You think the idea is feasible ??

It should be able to be in the air for 6 hrs at least. It should be able to detect low flying targets out to 300km and higher targets at more distances. ?
will the rotor vibration be a problem?

is it possible to make our own gps guided 155m ammo, given the navic advantage ?

will there be enough electical power from the engines of the su-30mki to power the asea radar ands also power to cool the radar?.

However most of the crude ( 65-70% even more ) is purchased by two private refineries and products are trans-shipped to all over Europe ( particularly Euro Port Rotterdam ) and some shipments to even as far away to Brasil.
Few days back one shipment of crude was received at a cost of only 57 USD per barrel ! At that time the rate was around 76 USD/barrel for UAE crude.

1. BMD
2. LR SAMs
3. MR SAMs
4. SHORADS and E SHORADS

Are you happy with the direction in which the Armed Forces are moving? ANything you feel are glaring gaps which need to be addressed ugently? Any new concepts/tech or doctrine which you feel India has missed during this period?

For instance one of the things that the Naval personnel of US, UK or Japan when talking in the public domain always emphasize on is the number of VLS Tubes available to a particular vessel.

In this context, it seems that the IN's large combatants with 32 SAM Tubes always appear inadequately armed as compared to similar vessels (in terms of tonnage, dimensions & sensor capability) of US, Chinese, Japanese or European. Is that a concern at all? Or can the Kolkata, VIzag, Shivalik and Talwar classes be upgraded to add more VLS? Also, if the upcoming VL-SRSAM can be quad packed like american ESSMs then does that address the situation to a certain degree?

Thanks

all these tech are available with israel our friend why the sudden change ?

but the problem here is what stops china from buying the tech to negate india`s initiative? or pakistan who have a bought CCM missiles form denel

again wont it be use full to get TOT from edge of denel just as the chinks have, to develop our desi version CCM? this is the only missile that seems to be lacking in the IAF arsenal. we can develop it according to our needs like a longer range version of the asraam. It would greatly enhance the PK ratio if 2 missiles with different seeker are fired at the same target as the russians do. would be help full against 5 gen fighters?

can the tariq equal the precision and performance of the spice family?or have edge given us more deep tech than the Israelis like the scene matching recognition software ?

HI prasun
the kaveri seems to have come of age now if one believes drdo that it has achieved the rated thrust of 48 kn. we dont have an after burner for it. i believe after burner tech is not cutting edge like the hot section of the engine. so why cant we ask russia to help us out as they know the engine more than any other company?

or am i missing some thing here regarding the the tech of after burner where fuel is injected into the exhaust for additional thrust.

Hello Prasun da,

As you mentioned Kaveri dry engine is undergoing testing in Russia and as more news is trickling in of this engine clearing High altitude testing - producing 48.5 Kn of thrust. My queries are
1. Can an afterburner be produced that produces 90 Kn of wet thrust using this engine.
2. Can this core be converted to turboprops and used for re-engining of C295s India is buying now.
3. Can this core be used to convert to KMGT, now that it is improved over previous version of Kaveri and may have addressed problems faced by KMGT earlier(sea env degradation).

Amol

Is the above correct? if not whats the truth?
Wil it fly as advertised by mid 2023?
How effective is it as weapons or ISR platform?

To AMIT BISWAS: LoLz! How the fatal Yeti Airways Crash in Nepal Happened:

https://www.gatechecked.com/yeti-691-preliminary-report-engines-accidentally-feathered-7231?utm_source=flightaware.com&utm_medium=social

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIlO-TBDyaw

To RAGHU: This is the operative part: “As far as the minesweeping vessels are concerned, we have worked on the QR sometimes back. Now there is a rethink. Instead of going for a pure mine sweeping vessel, we are looking at the new concept of using drones — underwater autonomous systems which is being followed worldwide. So, we are looking at new concept of Motherships with autonomous systems around the ships.” This clarifies as how IN is proceeding towards the new approach for the Minesweepers. The Indian Navy will be calling out for such Minesweepers with autonomous vehicles very shortly. It is pertinent to note that there will be new RFI based on the new design and tech infusion based on high-capacity sensors and detectors.

Here are the errors in such a narrative: 1) Before minesweeping operations commence, the minehunting operations need to take place. 2) For this, either vessel hulls made of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) or demagnetised steel need to be employed. This is the global norm. 3) Only after this are underwater ROVs employed to remotely attach explosives to the floating/moored naval mines that are then remotely exploded. Optionally, airborne minesweeping gear mounted on helicopters can destroy the floating mines.

Thus, the idea of using commercially available 'mother ships' equipped with ROVs for hunting & neutralising mines is a no-brainer. There is no substitute for GRP-hulled minehunters (MCMV).

To SUMIT: No updates on them. As for Project 75I & TKMS, since the IN wants a proven AIP solution, the only option now left on the table is the TKMS/Siemens-developed fuel-cell AIP. South Korea cannot supply this (although it is claiming otherwise) because the IPR of the fuel-cell built by South Korea is held by TKMS/Siemens. In addition, though the IN would like to have the German AIP integrated with a Scorpene SSK hull, this is impossible due to the unwillingness of both TKMS & France's Naval Group. This then leaves TKMS as the only OEM with a credible offer (of the Type-218 SSK) for Project 75I that can respond to the IN's RFP, making it a sole-source bid. However, this goes against the DPP, which mandates competitive bidding. Consequently, the only way to to award a contract under such circumstance is a G-to-G agreement that provides the legal umbrella for India for signing the contract.

Hi Prasun

Pic of the recent Brahmos test released by IN:
https://twitter.com/indiannavy/status/1632356640233254913/photo/1

Though the IN announced the test of a Brahmos at sea (with new desi seeker and booster), it did not mention the ship which launched the missile.

Now this looks like the vessel was almost certainly a Shivalik class. But it appears that it has been heavily modified - 3S90 Launcher is gone and the 8 Cell Brahmos VLS has been moved further forward closer to the bow and most interestingly there seems to be a another smaller VLS module in the foreground aft of the larger Brahmos VLS.

Does this mean that the Shivaliks are now receiving the BArak 8/LRSAM and/or VL SRSAM. And does this mean that their Russian radars have now been replaced with ELTA Radars?

Was this test then meant to validate operation of the Brahmos under this new configuration?

Thanks

To RAD: IMRH will have a range & endurance of 800km/3 hours. All the performance parameters are given here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8hsLllWy-o&t=36s

As for AESA-MMR fitment, this is already available:

https://www.leonardodrs.com/media/5350/osprey-mm_data-sheet.pdf

UAE’s EDGE Group has only inked a MoU with BDL. It is not a firm contract for any procurement. MoU in only an indication of intent, not firm will. You & I can also sign an MoU right now to co-build a hyper-loop linking Earth & Moon, but it will amount to nothing until a binding contract is inked.

The Kaveri without afterburner is the same as the 81kN-thrust Kaveri with afterburner. The afterburner nozzle is fully developed. However, there are still 12 high-strength alloys that need to be indigenised for the engine’s core, as explained here:

http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2022/06/turbofan-turboshaft-r-d-challenges-for.html

VEM Technologies has not developed any MPATGM. Instead, all that was done was that the DRDO gave the blueprints of MPATGM to VEM for fabrication & that’s all VEM did. That’s because when the bulk orders are placed, BDL alone will not be able to make the deliveries within the stipulated timeframes.

As for Varunastra, it is presently an autonomous HWT & this cannot be used by SSKs for hunter-killer operations. For that, HWTs that are wire-guided are reqd. A wire-guided variant of Varunastra is now under development.

To MOHAN: India currently lacks hypersonic weapons whereas China has them. In addition, immediate fire-support weapons like breech-loading mortars are lacking. This is the PLAGF’s 120mm mortar:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6uefMXle9o
120 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVwzHNOsx9g

The IA has issued RFIs for similar systems, for which the following are the contenders:

https://www.expalsystems.com/en/news-and-media-resources/news/dual-eimosdemonstration

https://www.ruag.com/system/files/media_document/2017-02/RZ_Brochure_Cobra%20Mortar%20System_en_low_Original_8779.pdf

https://www.patriagroup.com/products-and-services/protected-mobility-and-defence-systems/armament/patria-nemo

In addition, for persistent long-range ISR, both the IA & IAF require MALE & HALE UAVs with high-definition optronic sensors, plus a seamless 4-G or 5-G cellular comms network from Turtuk & DBO in the north right up to Walong in the east for dissemination of voice & imagery data among various IA & IAF formations deployed along this arc.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To TECHNOLOGY, PHOTOGRAPHY & TRAVEL: Those responsible for coming up with ‘SAMAR’ should be severely reprimanded for trying to reduce the IAF into the world’s laughing stock!

To VSJ: Most probably Armenia. No loitering munition will survive for long with contested airspaces.

To AMIT BISWAS: Both the IA’s & IAF’s Barak-8 MR-SAMs will likely be used for bringing down the PLARF’s subsonic AKD-20/CJ-20 subsonic air-launched/ground-launched subsonic cruise missiles that do not have terrain-hugging flight capability.

To ROHIT GILL: The PLAGF will not be able to launch any high-intensity limited war campaign against India till 2026, since it will take that much time to operationalize the 3 new combined-arms brigades that are now being raised inside Tibet Military District, while the re-arming of its 4 combined-arms divisions under Xinjiang Military Command will not be complete until 2026. Lastly, the same timeframe will be reqd for building all the new highways & railway lines that are meant to located closer to the Indian border areas.

To JUST_CURIOUS: As I had stated several times before, when it comes to PoJK, India will have to wait for the 1971 template to be repeated, i.e. when the population of PoJK unites & stages a popular revolt against Pakistan that will make it virtually impossible for the PA to do anything inside PoJK. WRT Solar Group’s data-breach, these provide some insights:

https://www.nagpurtoday.in/alarming-breach-nagpurs-solar-industries-making-military-weapons-hit-by-cyber-attack/02021030

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/nagpur/cbi-may-probe-ransomware-attack-on-citys-ammo-maker/articleshow/97561141.cms?from=mdr

To KIDDO: Things are shaping up in the right direction, put at a painfully slow pace, especially WRT QR-SAM & Akash-NG. In addition, the pace of procuring long-range L-band radars for airspace surveillance has been painfully slow. The same goes for subsonic LACMs. The Nirbhay could easily have been operationalized long ago by using the HAL-built PTAE-7 turbojet, pending the arrival of the STFE. On top of that, the IAF has failed to restructure itself by failing to raise commands like Air Combat Command & relying instead on regional theatre commands. The quantum of VLS cells in a warship becomes a non-issue when there are up to 10 warships making up a carrier battle group. To get an idea of how such a battle group functions, do watch this 5-part series on the Royal Navy’s QE-2 aircraft carrier’s maiden operational voyage to the IOR, South China Sea & East Asia, which will give you valuable insights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lomLIXl-GM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzJKS1m1BAs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuCZekguZ2Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LijQOiHefJo

Both BrahMos-1 & Barak-8 firings were from Project 15B DDG, this being part of the weapons validation firing regimes within the stipulated warranty period as mandated by the IN’s regulations.

To KUNAL: Such incidents are most probably due to infighting among various factions that want access to steadily dwindling financial resources. A credible explanation can be found here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6JaZfV2fWs&t=4s

To LITTLEMASTER89/AMOL: Not high-altitude testing, but tests inside a high-altitude test CHAMBER/CELL, like this:

It is not a high-altitude test on an airborne testbed aircraft. 1) What for? The Kaveri derivative engine is not a brand-new engine, but the same as Kaveri turbofan, but without an afterburner. 2) No. turboprop engines use turboshafts similar to one found in engines for helicopters. Hence, a turboprop engine can be developed from the HAL-developed HTSE-1200 turboshaft. 3) Not for the moment, but theoretically it is possible.

Kalyani-made Components for SSKs & Su-30MKI:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR627XoYMqE

To HARSH: The orders were placed in late 2019.

To 3RD-EYE: According to figures released by India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) in July 2022, indigenous content levels on the Tejas Mk.1/Mk1.A (slightly more than 53%), and the Dhruv utility helicopter (almost 56%), Light Combat Helicopter (54%) and Light Utility Helicopter (52%).For the Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Dornier-228 light transport, both built under licence in India, the MoD cites figures of 51% and 44%, respectively. The HTT-40 BTT has high imported content, for instance the cockpit displays & instrumentation from here:

https://cmcelectronics.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/4.2.1CMC-COCKPIT4000-19-003.pdf

On the Do-228, the cockpit avionics is sourced from here:

To KANE1966/KIRAN: HAL already has an industrial cooperation agreement with IAI/Malat Division under which the Archer-NG will be just a re-branded Heron-2. Only difference is that the Archer-NG will be powered by an indigenous 220hp diesel engine. The ADE-proposed HALE UAV will be powered by a 940hp Garrett/Honeywell TPE331 engine. What this means is that the Tapas-BH will become just a technology demonstrator. In any case it is a bizarre design, since €I have never come across any MALE-UAV that features a T-tail design.

To VED: 1) The SUT HWT but minus its wire-guidance kit. 2) Yes. BDL already officially stated at Aero India 2023 that the Astra-1 BVRAAM has a maximum range of 100km. 3) Yes.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To KARTHIK BARMAN: 1) No, because the Leclerc MBT was offered to India for co-development back in the mid-1970s. In the late 1990s, more Arjun Mk.1s should have been ordered. 2) No it cannot & should not. 3) No, the Kalyani-developed 52-cal/155mm MGS will be ordered. 4) By this fiscal year. 5) Archer-NG & the ADE-proposed HALE-UAV powered by TPE331 turboprop engine.

To DHANSHRI D: The IA will fight with this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjFvYqJwaFA

To SOUMYA RAY: With friendly navies, such is frequently shred about operating ‘zones’, not exact locations.

To VIN: No verifiable figures are available.

To SATYA: Such fleet groundings are nothing new & are the global norm. Ecuador rejected the ALHs due to inadequate product-support & the high cost of such support & that’s because HAL did not have any regional spares stocking facility anywhere in either North America or South America. Hence, in the absence of such facilities, the direct operating cost of any HAL-built end-product will be very high, be it in Ecuador, Argentina, Egypt or Philippines. Without direct flights to such countries, spares supplies will be late & costly.

To JUST_CURIOUS: LoLz! Such folks make a living by monetising conspiracy theories.

To JOYDEEP GHOSH: LoLz! Again you are relying on ‘might be’ €& ‘maybe’ that’s being peddled by internet fanboys. Iran has officially stated that it is going for Su-35BMs that were originally destined for Egypt & Indonesia, not MiG-29s or Su-30MKIs. If the IAF won’t go for additional MiG-29s & Su-30MKIs, then can it also be concluded that the IN will have to forego its four Gregorivich-class FFGs on order? Instead, this is the reality:

To JOYDEEP GHOSH: Let us, for a change, indulge in some serious crystal ball-gazing. For instance, why are US & India teaming up for the NISAR SAR satellite usage. Officially, the reasons are given here:

https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/

https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/get-to-know-sar/overview/

Unofficially, could it be that the 2 countries have embarked upon a deep-ocean & deep-sea mapping quest that could unearth ancient megalithic structures that could provide valuable technological insights? €Could it result in the unearthing of that piece of landmass €(now submerged) that is widely known as Atlantis? There is a substantial body of evidence that such a landmass was actually known as SUNDALAND.

Gunung Padang Megalithic structure (GPM) that appears to be Mt Suryavān described in the Vālmīki Rāmāyana was part of a larger landmass known as Shāka Dwīpa that is currently named as Sundaland in the Indonesian archipelago. GPM is likely to be the place where Sun-worship known as ‘Saura’ of the Vedic society evolved. The Vedic religion (known as Dharma, which refers to eternal concepts that are applicable to all places, to all people and at all times) has six types of worship methods (Shanmata) of which Saura or sun-worship is one. Though there are sun temples in India where the Sun is worshiped, the exact Saura worship method is not followed now as it used to be, if we go by the description given in Bhaviṣya Purāna. This text describes how the sun worship was done and where it originated. It didn’t originate in present day India! But since it is part of Vedic Dharma, it is understood that those ancestral to the Vedic people had conceived and spread this worship. Its location of origin was Shāka Dwīpa. The very name Shāka in Shāka Dwīpa was derived from the tree Shāka that was abundantly found there. It was like how Jambhu Dwīpa (housing India) was called by the name of Jambhu tree found in abundance there. Shāka tree is native to South Asia and South East Asia and not to central Asia or Europe. Its botanical name is Acacia sirissa. This was known as Uzhinjil or Unna or Pālai in Tamil. Its flower was held in high esteem and worn as a mark of victory in war. In Sanskrit it is known as Shirīsha and in Tamil it is known as Vāgai. The second reason why Shāka Dwīpa could not be located in Central Asia was that as per the description found in the Mahābhārata and Vishnu Purāna, Indra gulped the waters of the seas in Shāka Dwīpa everyday and gave back as rains in time to the same place. This perfectly fits with the monsoon activity in the Indian Ocean regions, thereby indicating the location of Shāka Dwīpa in that region. The Brahmānda Purāna verse on the location of Shāka Dwīpa says it is close to the north of Tropic of Capricorn. The presence of seven countries (varsha-s) in Shāka Dwīpa sounds similar to the seven divisions of the olden Tamil country of the 1st Sangam Age located outside India, each having further seven divisions, making the overall number of 49 countries in the Tamil Pāndya kingdom having Southern Madurai as its capital.

Cont'd below...

The seven mountains based on the description of the Mahābhārata are as follows:

Meru also known as Mahākāśa--Likely to be Pura Besakih in Bali

Malaya stretching towards east–appears to be New Guinea Highlands

Jaladhāra--From where Indra takes water every day and showers as rainfall – Fits with Titiwangsa mountains of the Malay Peninsula.

Mount Raivataka--the star Revatī (Zeta Piscium) is placed directly above which means the mountain was on the equator. Later the region came to be known as Kaumāra after Skanda alias Kumara who lived here. There was a crater formed by an extra-terrestrial impact some 22,000 years ago and where the first speech of the ancestral Vedic society evolved.

Shyāma--Means black. Dark complexioned people resided here. This matches with the Papuans and Malenesians who continue to live in Papua New Guinea. The mountain range is Papua New Guinea High lands.

Kesarī--In Sanskrit it refers to lion, and also a tree. Lion doesn’t seem to be native to Sundaland, but a tree variety known as Ceylon Ironwood (Mesua ferrea) is found abundantly in Philippines, Sumatra, Malaysia.

Durgaśaila--No specific description is available for the mountain but it was a Varsha (country) where Shāka trees were found in abundance as per the Mahābhārata.

River Kumāri was in Southern Madurai where Skanda lived (circa 9990 BCE) and the Pāndyan dynasty thrived for 4,440 years. That land had gone under water. Southern Madurai was lost to the seas some 7,200 years ago. (the chronology of the periods that followed three floods since the end of Ice Age as given in Tamil texts)

In Vishnu Purana’s description of Shāka Dwīpa, a river by the name Ikshu is mentioned. Ikshu means sugarcane. So, sugarcane growing region has lent the name Ikshu to the river. Sugarcane is native to Papua New Guinea and South China. We rule out South China as it is not part of Shāka Dwīpa. Historically the Papuans and Austronesians were found to have domesticated sugarcane. A river in their location was known as Ikshu. Sugarcane was later introduced to North India in the Gangetic plain (the glacier-fed River Ganges / Ganga started flowing only in Holocene).

The missing pre-history hidden in Sundaland is further revealed by the Indic texts. Both the Mahābhārata and the Vishnu Purāna state that there were four classes of people (varna-s) such as Brahmins (priests), Kshatriya-s (warriors), Vaisya-s (traders) and Shudra-s (tillers) in the presence of these four classes in addition to three more namely, astrologers (Arivan), ascetics (Tāpathar) and war-field singers (Porunar). The first four classes exists in the Shāka Dwīpa. It is also stated that Shāka Dwīpa was the only place other than Bhārata varsha (India) where this four-some classification was in existence. The Tamil connection to Shāka Dwīpa is found in this context too, as the Sangam Age Tamil Grammar book, Tolkāppiyam, states the social order are mentioned as Magā, the Maśakā, the Mānasā and the Mandagā. The Magā-s (Brahmins of Shāka Dwīpa) were also known as Mriga in Vishnu Purāna, but found mentioned as Magā in Bhaviṣya Purāna and inscriptions. The Magā Brahmins initiated the sun worship. Shiva-worship also was done in Shāka Dwīpa. The Mahābhārata states that Shiva was the deity of Shāka Dwīpa. This must have started only with Skanda about 12,000 years ago (during Younger Dryas). Saura (Sun) worship must have started before that when the southern hemisphere started receiving more heat from the sun (Older Dryas -14,000 years ago). The first experience with the sudden increase in solar heat was welcomed by the people of Shāka Dwīpa, most probably by those living near the equator at GPM. Thus started the Saura worship.

The inhabitants of Shāka Dwīpa made extensive use of Copper-made structures that were driven deep into Earth for producing energy. The top-side of such a structure was what we today call the Shivalinga. Here’s more data on the descendants of such ancient civilisations:

Tambralinga, “the land of the Copper [Coloured] Shiva Linga”, was an unlikely candidate for a superpower. In the Tirukkaiyur inscription of Rajendra Chola I—one of a handful of Chola records claiming overseas conquest—it is described as “the great Tamralingam, firm and fierce in many great battles”. In reality, it was just one among the many squabbling ports and city-states that dotted the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra in the 11th century CE, participating in the globalised exchanges of the Eastern Indian Ocean.

https://theprint.in/opinion/a-medieval-malayan-king-beat-cholas-at-their-game-almost-created-a-superpower/1425362/

Data on the usage of Copper was obtained through tactical remote-viewing by this lady:

Remote-Viewing Atlantis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY50Nx_R6Ew&t=101s

And the location of this landmass was revealed by Prof Arysio N dos Santos, who demonstrated that Plato’s dating of Atlantis’s disappearance in 11,600 BP (before present) precisely corresponds to the catastrophic end of the Pleistocene Ice Age, as well as a historic flood event of cataclysmic proportions. The rising of the sea level by nearly 500 feet, he argues, submerged continent-sized lands—including Atlantis, which he connects with the biblical Garden of Eden. Provocative chapters cover such topics as the continent’s appearance in ancient maps, Indonesia as the true site of Eden, American interpretations of Atlantis, the four rivers of paradise, and more, giving a clear form to the ghostly outline of this fabled land.

The inhabitants of Sundaland were great seafarers who took advantage of the unique wind-currents prevailing within the IOR. Winds have played the most important role of all the climatic factors in shaping the historic destiny of the IOR. They are part of a vast process of air movement involving all of South Asia, Southeast Asia and Eastern Asia: the monsoons. The principal characteristic of the monsoon winds is that they reverse themselves at different periods of the year, almost always at the same time, a feature which is of great importance for long-distance navigation. The principal features of the general system of the monsoons are simple. In summer, pronounced low-pressure rules, not over Southeast Asia, but much farther to the north, over Central Asia. Because of overheating, these low-pressure areas create a demand for air. The high-pressure areas are likewise situated outside of Southeast Asia, over Australia, where, during the Australian winter, they prevail over the whole northern part of the continent, with extremely high pressure that can reach 1,030 millibars. This produces a flow of air which, attracted by the low-pressure areas of Central Asia, becomes a monsoon. When crossing the Equator, the monsoon winds assume a roughly southwest-northeast movement. Usually dry at the outset, they ride over the warm oceans, gathering humidity, which then becomes the summer monsoon rains. In winter, the situation is reversed. Marked high-pressure areas due to the cold settle over Central Asia and Eastern Siberia. At the same time, particularly in northwest Australia, the southern ocean mass, which has been overheated during the southern summer, now corresponds to low-pressure zones that draw air towards the previous high-pressure areas. This is the winter monsoon. This monsoon is dry, coming as it does from the Asian continent, but it picks up humidity locally, especially over the South China Sea. It will therefore also bring abundant rains to certain very southern sectors of the Asia of the monsoons, and especially to the Indonesian Archipelago. The Malay Peninsula occupies a unique position in the heart of this system of seasonal winds. Surrounded on all sides by the seas of the two oceans it divides, it could be expected to be uniformly watered throughout the year. This is not the case, however, because it is protected from the summer monsoon in the southwest by the Island of Sumatra, and from the winter monsoon in the northeast by the overhang of the peninsula of Cit Mau, the extreme point of the Indochinese Peninsula, a set of circumstances whose effect on alluvial deposits along the coasts. These seasonal winds, in addition to the rains which they may or may not bring, have a decisive influence on the surface movements of the local waters, because, as we have already indicated, the water is not very deep above the Sunda Platform (the Bay of Bengal, the Strait of Melaka and the South China Sea). The great systems of the neighbouring ocean currents have no influence here. As a matter of general interest, the relative isolation of the large nearby ocean masses by the encircling garland of the Indonesian Archipelago and this in latitudes where the equatorial rains are copious-leaves the local waters with a weak salinity, and an abnormally lukewarm temperature throughout the year.

Let us now consider the local effect of the general system of the monsoons on the pattern of the winds and on the creation of surface currents. In April, because it is the month of transition between the two monsoons in the latitudes of the Malay Peninsula, the southwest monsoon is heralded by west winds rising far away in the Indian Ocean. These winds approach the coasts of Sumatra between the Equator and 5° north latitude. During the same period, weaker west winds coming from the northwest cover the northern part of the Bay of Bengal. The northeast monsoon still prevails over the South China Sea, but it begins to weaken here, and undergoes changes in direction; in fact, there is a less than fifty percent constancy in the direction of the winds, and below 5° north latitude, the sea is calm. In May, the southwest monsoon advances into the Malay Peninsula and beyond, into Thailand and Indochina; the northeast monsoon is in full retreat. At the same time, the southern winds gain in strength and stability of direction. The movements of the surface ocean currents conform to the direction of the prevailing winds. The situation is similar to what occurs in October when the northeast monsoon advances and the southwest monsoon retreats. In June, the northeast monsoon has completely withdrawn from the South China Sea, by around the middle of the month. The prevailing air currents come from the south and the southwest. Between them, they form a front situated at around 5° north latitude. The southwest monsoon, after passing the Malay Peninsula, takes a south-north direction in the northern part of the South China Sea. At the level of the Peninsula itself, the stability of these winds is about seventy-five percent or more. The surface ocean currents, moving in the same direction, are strongly established. In July and August, the situation remains the same as in June; the strength and stability of the winds, however, increases. In September, the northeast monsoon reappears, but only in the northern part of the China Sea.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

South of 1 5° north latitude, that is, in the Malay Peninsula, the winds come from the south or the southwest. Their strength diminishes, but their stability of direction remains strong at the level of the Peninsula (50% and higher). The southwestern and southern winds meet, forming a front at the level of Singapore. The ocean currents are troubled here. In October, the whole Peninsula is still under the influence of the southwest winds, but these come up against the implacable forward movement of the flow of the winds from the northeast, added to those remaining from the south. These southwest winds are light and variable (there are calms on nine to fifteen percent of the days of the month). On the surface of the South China Sea, a vast northeast current builds up again. In November, the southwest currents disappear, yielding to the west winds, which cover the whole Peninsula to the south of the Isthmus of Kra, creating a front with the winds of the south at the latitude of the Sunda Strait. The confrontation of these winds with the advancing northeast monsoon over the Peninsula takes place in the open sea off the eastern shores. The ocean currents from the northeast are firmly established. In December, the northeast monsoon covers the whole of Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula, to about the latitude of the Equator. The strength of the winds is great, and their stability of direction is higher than 75%t. Southern Sumatra and Java are under the rule of the west winds.

Australia will be getting world class Virginia class SSNs starting 2030s and after that future British designed SSNs in 2040s. Meanwhile India is still trying to figure out how to develop its own SSNs by using a vintage Soviet design of the 1980s. Why can't we enter into a similar partnership with France for Baraccuda submarines that we can build in an Indian shipyard? Or ask Russians to give us the Yasen class SSGN design which we can use to create a smaller class SSN by removing VLS cells? Russia is in a dire situation but we are not using this opportunity to extract the best out of them.

To SANJEEV: It is a great mistake to be fixated only on land warfare. There are other options, like this:

In a bold, imaginative and strategic move, the Indian government has quietly begun building a full-fledged naval base on Great Nicobar Island, which faces the entrance to the Straits of Malacca and is 90 miles from the tip of Indonesia. This move is like moving the queen into the open to give a direct check to the opponent’s king, based on the rules of the game of chess. Far out in the Indian Ocean, for example, China’s extended neck, stretching westward to Djibouti and Gwadar, threatens to bring immediate protection. A naval base in Great Nicobar will be the centerpiece of a maritime strategy to deliver a counter-punch to Chinese aggression in the Himalayas. Dependent on imported oil, China’s Indian Ocean communications depend on over 65 percent of its oil imports. With such deep vulnerability, one would think that China would act cautiously on the Himalayan Line of Actual Control. But so far, China firmly believes that India has completely and deeply immersed itself in a short-sighted land-centric strategy, ignoring the advantages conferred on India by its maritime geography. The strategic landscape in the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea is already dominated by the QUAD intelligence-sharing and communications agreements. In times of crisis, if these agreements are implemented, India will be the beneficiary of a full strategic edge in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea. China’s aggressive move along the Northern Line of Control will be countered by threats to Chinese-bound tankers in the Straits of Malacca. Indian warplanes, operated by its own air-warning aircraft from a new base in Great Nicobar, will control information dominance in the Straits of Malacca. The Chinese military’s attempt to send a task force to investigate the tanker stoppage would run straight into the trap of a geographically constructed “killing ground” (an area in front of a defensive position that an enemy must cross during an attack) dominated by Indian aircraft and missile-armed ships and submarines. Hopefully it won’t come to that as China and India can make their own tactical calculations. All this, of course, depends on whether India is ready to see the game and allow the new base in Great Nicobar as the start of a maritime strategy to replace the tired land-centric approach that India faces with impossible geographical obstacles. It depends on whether setting up a small spy base in Great Nicobar is merely a political objective or a full-fledged Pearl Harbor as an Indian defense station in the eastern military wing strong enough to prevent Chinese escalation with India. This is the strategy recommended in line with the current revolution in military affairs, namely dominance and information denial to the enemy which creates a prerequisite for victory. With a base at Great Nicobar, the entrance to the Straits of Malacca would be a hundred miles away, while the Chinese base at Sanya would be 1,500 miles away. Rumor has it that the Chinese have awarded a large dredging contract in Gwadar and their intention is to operate an aircraft carrier in support of Djibouti and station it in Gwadar. If access to the Straits of Malacca falls into Indian hands, these deep-rooted plans will fly into the air. A Sino-Indian conflict scenario would suddenly spell disaster for China. Of course India’s overall strategy needs to be played skillfully, coordinating between the armed forces and diplomats, and keeping the odds as low as possible.

To VED: Tejas Mk.1 will have Python-5 & Derby AAMs. Tejas Mk.1A & Tejas-AF Mk.2 MWF will have Astra-1s & AIM-132 ASRAAM Block-6s. Upgraded Su-30MKI with new weapons management computer & Targo HMDS will be able to use AIM-132 ASRAAM Block-6. The engagement ranges of ramjet-powered BVRAAMs depend on the tracking range of AESA-MMR. If the AESA-MMR can track airborne targets out to only 130km, then a 150km-range ramjet-powered BVRAAM will suffice. Existing mechanically scanning RF seeker goes active 4km away from its target with limited range-gates & narrow line-of-sight, but with AESA seeker the range-gate will have much more wider line-of-sight.

Meanwhile, it looks like the 'desi' VSHORADS is using the CLU of MBDA's Mistral:

Dear Sir
I have come across one very informative you tube channel by the name Gunners Shot by retired Lt. General P. R. Shankar. I just wanted to inform about this channel to you and other forum members.

To JOYDEEP GHOSH: It is at Campbell Bay in Great Nicobar Island, now renamed after Shaheed Bagha Jatin. The now-disused airstrip at Car Nicobar was severely damaged by the December 2004 Tsunami & is need of upgrading, especially an increase of its height. Both air bases will be required, one for basing MRCAs & the other for LRMR/ASW aircraft. The existing airport at Port Blair is being expanded to include a brand-new tarmac for hosting both LRMR/ASW aircraft as well as MALE-UAVs.

To RAD: The VSHORADS missile has a length of 2,000mm, diameter of 90mm, weight of 20.5kg, range of 6km, 2kg pre-fragmentation warhead, flight-time of 20 seconds, speed of Mach 1.5, service ceiling of 3.5km, dual-thrust rocket, and an IIR seeker (not dual-colour, IR only, not UV). There is no data-link. What you see is an IFF transponder. The DARE-developed HBJ is effective against X-band MMRs. Ka-band & Ku-band RF seekers of BVRAAMs re jammed by mid-band jammers.

To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) It has nothing to do with any pipeline, but rather because both Iran & KSA trusted China to be an honest & non-partial arbiter. 2) I had already explained several times before that Taiwan holds an estimated US$14 trillion in reserves that has been parked with Japanese banks since the late 1980s & this is what has kept Japan afloat economically thus far.

To SOUMYA Ray: They are for the following:

October 2013: The IN announced interest in 15 mobile missile coastal battery (MMCB) systems for deployment at various locations along the country's coastline. The IN is looking for a missile system with a minimum desired range of 150km and a warhead weight of at least 150kg. The MMCB will be required for the anti-ship and near land attack roles, and the IN has specifically asked for commonalities with anti-ship missiles launched from warships. In addition, the IN has sought details of missile construction, capabilities and specific features, including waypoint, re-attack capability, flight profile (e.g. flight altitude/speeds in various phases, details of sea-skimming capability, etc), speed of missile (minimum required 0.8 Mach), terminal phase manoeuvre capability, RCS of missile, hit probability against various targets, inertial navigation system (INS), any GPS/ GLONASS or other receiver for positional and targeting accuracy.

August 9, 2019: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved procurement of Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long-Range) or NGMMCB-LR, for the IN.

February 23, 2021: Cochin Shipyard has won a contract with Indian Navy for construction of six of Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV). The state run firm emerged as the lowest bidder and grabbed the order worth Rs 10,000 crore. "We would like to inform that at the meeting held at the Ministry of Defence, New Delhi, Cochin Shipyard Limited has been declared as L1 in the tender floated by the Indian Navy for construction of six of Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) and the estimated total order value is around Rs 10,000 crore".

To NIKHIL M: While Indian public-sector & private-sector entities continue to play around with conceptual UAVs like Archer-NG, Tapas-BH & others, Taiwan has already developed a wide range of UAVs, as shown here:

To SP: When one deals with IAF squadron strength, it must be noted that back in 1962, the IAF had projected a reqmt of 55 combat aircraft squadrons. Following that, only 42 squadrons were financially sanctioned. Today, that reqmt still exists & to that are the reqmts for new combat-support squadrons, like 2 MRTT squadrons, 2 AEW & CS squadrons, 2 manned ISR platform squadrons, 4 ISR-related UAV squadrons, & 1 COMINT/COMJAM Sqn. So, the total projected reqmt is for 55 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 66 Sqns.

Wow An IIR? then we seem to have taken the lead in installing an IIR seeker rather than a 2 color seeker with conical scanning ? Is there any other vshordas that has an IIR seeker? Then our vshorads is inherently more sensitive and jam proof?

if the rocket motor is for 20 secs then i feel it will have a free flight of at least 10 km as the firsts 5 secs are needed to take it max speed and then the next 15 secs at mach 1.5 should take it to 10km ?

again where did the basic iir seeker come from as we dont have that capability, of course tonbo must have made a effective use of the it.

do you think it is better to make a GPS chip that has US GPS , glonass, navic and Galileo as well? as we know china will jam our signals?

is there plan that DARE is making mid band and low band aesa jammers as well?

The unified EW system that is supposed to be for the LCA and later fighter have the capacity to jam the entire spectrum?

You say approved number of squadrons for IAF is 42.
But back then there were no attack helicopters or Standoff weapons or Drones.
IAF operated plenty of close air support aircraft: SU7, Marut, Hunters, Mig23BN/MiG27. Now there is a change in force structure is it not?
No CAS (in fact only A-10 and SU25 CAS exist, they too are endangered), so should there not be a review of what kind of force is needed and how Ground force/Navy will be supported. IAF calls it air land battle, not CAS anymore.

Then more emphasis needs to be paid to air refuellers, AEW/ISR/CommInt platforms and even growler types and their protection during times of conflict.

Will DRDO upgrade seeker in VSHORADS missile like as in Verba Manpads, what about the man portable version of VSHORADS missile

To RAD: Have uploaded above the VSHORADS poster that says it all. UEWS suite for Tejas-AF Mk.2 will be able to tackle wide-band EW threats.

To VENKY: Back then there was a much smaller PAF and a non-existent PLAAF within TAR & hence 42 squadrons was considered sufficient. Today the adversary’s geographical footprint has increased & hence much more than 42 squadrons are reqd. The IAF will continue to render CAS with standoff PGMs. Only immediate air-support will be rendered by IAF & IA attack helicopters.

To SIDHARTH: Have uploaded above the VSHORADS poster that says it all. VSHORADS is man-portable when operated by a 2-man crew.

VISHAL: LoLz! They were all sporting very pensive looks. In my view, this is the most immediate reqmt that will become the gamechanger:

Not coast to shore, but shore-to-sea. The Long Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) is the 1,000kg Gaurav glide-bomb that will be produced by Adani Defence & Aerospace. The smaller 550kg Gautham glide-bomb & 550kg PG-HSLD (with dual-guidance) meant for LCA, Jaguar, MiG-29UPG, MiG-29K & Mirage-2000s is still awaiting a production order. A few questions on current Brahmos:
1. Does Brahmos comes with waypoint navigation? If yes, then how many points?
2. Can it receive shipborne or/and airborne midcourse updates and act upon it?
3. Does it have autonomy over its flight regime by routing itself to other target? Can it throttle/adjust up & down its supersonic speed by few notches to increase range?

Prasun da with Pakistan in disarray, don't you think it is naive to believe in a two-front war scenario? I think there is no chance of Pakistan going ahead because of weak institutions, a rapidly growing population, extremism, illiteracy and political instability among others. They might end up as worse than Congo and Somalia. It seems that China is the only external threat to India.

To SANTOSH: Dispersal of assets on the ground will assure survival against drone saturation attacks. Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To ASD: LoLz! Who has said that India is neutral? India has already stated that this is not the era of war, meaning that Russia must terminate its aggression & instead negotiate with €Ukraine. As for India's diplomacy getting stronger, where's the evidence of that? On the contrary, it is still weak. Kindly read this Op-Ed:

https://twitter.com/SujanChinoy/status/1637337865859334147/photo/1

The author of this piece is so IDIOTIC because while he clearly mentions the McMahon Line as the concept for boundary resolution in northeastern India, he fails to mention the Johnson Line as the concept for boundary resolution in Ladakh! And on top of that he expects the US to recognise the Johnson Line!!! Worst, he now heads the IDSA. What he fails to divulge is that within the Indian MEA itself there was such more disagreement over which concept-line to choose for Ladakh in the 1950s ( between the McCartney, McDonald & Johnson lines) that the MEA did not authorise the IA & the IB to even conduct a detailed land survey of Aksai Chin until 1958, by which time it was too late & the survey could not be done. So, if India herself continues to be ambiguous & unsure about the validity of the Johnson Line, then how can anyone else (like the US) be expected to voice support for the Johnson Line? That's why S Jaishankar had admitted a few months ago that even other members of the QUAD are not willing to accept India's definition of her borders.

To KAUSHIK: 1) No updates. 2) No.

2. Neither Virginia nor Astute are ancient technology. They are recent and evolving. Then why SSN-AUKUS?
3.When things could have been straight forward as 8 Astutes/Virginias, then why this convolution? Australia job worry could have been easily handled.
4. USA-Australia convergence on SSN is understandable vis-a-vis China's past 10 years of international conduct against both the countries. However, UK-China relations are not that fraught, except over Hong Kong. Its involvement could have been purely commercial. Then, why is United Kingdom so strategically embroiled in Indo-Pacific centred AUKUS? What does it gain out it, in the medium & long term?

Instead of dying, the Khalistani movement is on the rise. This I believe is due to the unrest within POK and in Pakistan which is hurting Chinese business. I believe the Chinese handlers have poured cash and admonition to Pakistan simultaneously to re jig Khalistan issue so India gets distracted from the Chinese expansionism as well as gives time for the Pakistani government to strangle unrest within. What I fail to understand is, why aren't any of the Western countries impeding the separatist movement in their country and why no one is raising the issue that would the organisers and supporters - 95% of them overseas- leave the comfort of those countries and live in Khalistan renouncing their foreign citizenship? Are they only interested in Indian Punjab or Pakistani one too otherwise how can it be a divided Khalistan? Obviously it is a nuisance movement aimed at destabilising India rather than a nationalist one.

To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) Why should the PA deploy such a radar in one of its cantonments? Should it not be the PAF to use such radars? Or does the PA no longer trust the PAF to provide air-defence cover? 2) Not much as of now. 3) They are already on board the 6 Project 1135.6 FFGs of the IN. 5) HJT-36 has been buried by the IAF.

To RAGHU: This is not any new revelation, but was known all along. The hardware buildup at Lhunze was noticed by India last October itself & the likely entry areas by the PLAGF were all subjected to persistent ISR from the Indian side. What was not known was the D-Day & it is here that the €US National Security Agency’s COMINT & SIGINT assets obtained the crucial inputs from the Western Theatre Command’s Chengdu-based HQ & it is this that was shared with India. Unlike India, China has an extensive fibre-optic cable network all along the border areas & by using 4-G/5-G networks the PLAGF can successfully maintain radio silence right until it makes first contact with the IA/ITBP in such areas. Consequently, signals intercepts by India are impossible.

To SOUMYA RAY: 1 & 2) That’s because technological advances will require periodic retrofits. And in future these will all flow from the new-generation hardware to be deployed on future USN & RN SSGNs. 4) The UK is also a member of the Five-Power Defence Arrangements that includes Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia & Singapore. 5) Yes. 6) The PWRs of such SSGNs are of the life-long type, i.e. they will never require new fuel-rods.

To RANJAN KOHLI: Yes, the Khalistan movement is on the rise, but not inside India. It is on the rise in the US, UK, Canada & Australia & hence India should clearly state that it has no objection to an independent Khalistan being created in any of those countries or inside Pakistan. In this age of information warfare, India somehow seems unable to wage offensive IW.

India will fight frontal war while china will fight a different war. Our each solider will face a drone and we are at risk of loosing further in China and a lot in Arunachal. We have capability and planning weaknesses and they are not addressed. So the question is what should India do? Surrender already? Also the analysis that GOI surrendered in September 2020 and agreed defacto to the 1959 claim of China seems to hold up. We were outmaneuvered, humiliated and defeated at minimum loss of life from Chinese perspective.

To 3rd-EYE: Everything went off smoothly, just as was the case when the Tejas Mk.1s in the past had exercised in Rajasthan in the past.

To SRINIVASA NANDURI: The Pakistani factor is becoming insignificant by the day since Uncle Sam has sprung the perfect trap for its WMD projects & what will follow next is total de-nuclearisation, which will come as a huge sigh of relief for Iran, and it is this that will lead to Iran entering into serious negotiations with the West on its own nuclear projects. As for Ladakh, India had since 1962 more or less agreed to the 1959 claim-line of China & what the latest series of buffer zones has done is to create the REAL LAC that is not disputed by either party. This in turn has given China some breathing space to focus its military efforts towards Taiwan & South China Sea, while buying time for building up its military infrastructure & upgrading its fighting capabilities within TAR. This also gives India time to re-orient its military power in Ladakh, Sikkim & Arunachal Pradesh so that China does not enjoy an walkover.

LRDE submitted (November 2006) a proposal to Air HQ for development of MPR using imported antenna through direct import of MAP antenna from M/s Thales, France at a cost of Rs.97.84crore to meet IAF timeframe of 36 months. Prasun,

1- how many tejas Mk1 can be rolled off in total with the 3rd assembly line coming up in April. the numbers seem to vary from 21-32. How many total assembly lines are planned? why can't HAL rope in TASL which is hanging on to the F21 knowing its futility
2- CSIR wants $2 billion for 90seater RTA. why can't it work with airbus on a commerical version of C-295 , on embrear E2's & russian MC21's all these would gladly set up assembly lines & also R&D/product development centers in india . The Aviation minister recently tried to sound big by claiming it was high time airbus/boeing set up an assembly line in india .. which they will not do as neither we are their ally nor are we a big trading aprtner like china , which also controls a major chunk of rare earth minerals & its processing
3-on rare earth metals why is india slow to explore them in India ?
4- the whole khalistani drama clearly showed up that it was primarily the Leftist US & its anglo saxon cronies esp Uk which still is in the colonizer syndrome propping it up -add canada helmed by that slimy fellow trudeau. what is baffling is the very cartoonish chase of the bhagoda.. seems like the punjab police do not want it to end. who are the internal lot who are sympathzing /propping it up. SGPC(akalis) made some stmts/ APP is looked at as a sympathiser. Clearly it was a deliberate attempt aimed at 2024 elections.
5- It's disappointing with the way the Modi govt has retaliated to the khalistani provocation. and many before that.. more so with US & canada trying to act big daddy by saying they are watching.. what is holding india back for paying back? spine?
6- why hasn't india raked up Porkies covert supply or weapons to Ukrane? also why is russia gving wheat & oil to porkies who have never wished them well

Prasun,

6- Shouldn't IA+IN go for rafales for commonality & replace M88 with 404 & standarize it across Tejas Mk1a+ rafales. this along with F414 assembly line wud give a massive cost advantage by way of standardization with more thrust to Rafales for carrying directed energy weapons in future. Should be a relatively easy job since rafales started flying for f404's. Alternatively use a downgraded F414 with @90Kn thrust for mk1A's & rafales thus standardizing on a single engine across the fleet for even more cost+ maintenance savings... your thoughts pls
7- how do Amogha 3 & DRDO vshroads compare to the world's best
8- is Zircon based Bramhos 2 still on? also is there a near hypersonic bramhos version in the making? ---https://alphadefense.in/brahmos-x-extreme-performance-missile/
