When is MI 17V5 entering into IAF ?? Also why aren't we going for a black hawk as the Mi17 in this deal is more expensive than black hawk but technologically very poor, not to mention our forces wants to go for network centric capabilities but still insist on purchasing Soviet era helicopters which even Russian army does not wants ?And when is the follow on order for next 50 will be placed ??Also does Indian Army Aviation Corps has a plan to procure choppers in the category of of Mi17 or much heavier version like Chinook ?When are we going to sign these deals and when will the enter the services :1) 197 Light utility helicopters2) 22 Heavy Attack Helicopters3) 12 Heavy Lift helicopters ??Also why only 12 Heavy Lift helicopters for one of the world ? Is there a plan to place a follow on order ??Finally what is going on with IN and ICG helicopter program ?/ When are these deals going to be signed ?Also do we have special operation Dhruv like US Black Hawk's version meant for special operations with features like night vision, Identification Friend or Foe and special radar equipment?/
The Mi-17V-5s should begin entering service by next month. The first batch of six Mi-17V-5s has already arrived in-country. The follow-on order should be in place by this October. The Mi-17V-5 has been upgraded to include a glass cockpit and more powerful and reliable Klimov VK-2500 engines. There's nothing to prevent the Mi-17V-5 from taking part in network-centric operations. Regarding the timing for placement of orders for the LUHs, attack helicopters and heavylift helicopters, your guess is as good as mine. The total reqmt for heavylift helicopters is 24. Don't know about the ICG's helicopter procurement plans, but the Navy wants to procure 16 10-tonne helicopters (S-70B Seahawks or NH-90) and 16 12-tonne machines (AW-101 or S-92). Presently, there are no helicopters with any of the three armed services that are optimised or tailor-made for either special operations or combat SAR.
Thanx for the reply....I still have one question....You pointed out IN's requirement of 16 10-tonne helicopters and 16 12-tonne machines....I heard about IN's requirement for 16 Medium Multi role helicopters whose requirements can go upto 60....Are those two separate 10 and 12 ton helicpoters belong to the same deal or both are different ??/
Wow !!!Looks Good......You got to give it to the Yanks for technology......
Just look at the LONG list of deals pending.....it is amazing at the way the MOD functions. Must be so frustrating for the Armed forces.....India has moved on and the ovt sector can compare with the best.....but the politicians and beaucrats are still stuck in the 19th century....
