The Mi-17V-5s should begin entering service by next month. The first batch of six Mi-17V-5s has already arrived in-country. The follow-on order should be in place by this October. The Mi-17V-5 has been upgraded to include a glass cockpit and more powerful and reliable Klimov VK-2500 engines. There's nothing to prevent the Mi-17V-5 from taking part in network-centric operations. Regarding the timing for placement of orders for the LUHs, attack helicopters and heavylift helicopters, your guess is as good as mine. The total reqmt for heavylift helicopters is 24. Don't know about the ICG's helicopter procurement plans, but the Navy wants to procure 16 10-tonne helicopters (S-70B Seahawks or NH-90) and 16 12-tonne machines (AW-101 or S-92). Presently, there are no helicopters with any of the three armed services that are optimised or tailor-made for either special operations or combat SAR.

I still have one question....
You pointed out IN's requirement of 16 10-tonne helicopters and 16 12-tonne machines....
I heard about IN's requirement for 16 Medium Multi role helicopters whose requirements can go upto 60....
Are those two separate 10 and 12 ton helicpoters belong to the same deal or both are different ??/

Just look at the LONG list of deals pending.....it is amazing at the way the MOD functions. Must be so frustrating for the Armed forces.....
