The biggest problem is we (IAF) seem to have LOST confidence in the SU-30MKI. IAF is nolonger sure of being able to get air superiority over area's of conflict, e.g. Pak airspace. That will leave our ground forces and cities vulnerable.

To VED: This MAREEM AIP module has been developed (with technical assistance from France’s NAVAL Group) to fit in to the single-hulled CM-2000 Scorpene SSK. It can also be accommodated on the single-hulled Class 209/Type 1500 SSK provided some re-engineering of the AIP module’s dimensions are undertaken. However, for the double-hulled Type 877EKM/Kilo-class SSK, the re-engineering & hull modification costs will be prohibitive, since the design of the Type 877EKM/Kilo-class SSK is not available to anyone in India.
To SRIRANGA: I had already done an assessment of Project-75I 4 years ago in which I had stated that procuring a new-design single-hulled SSK will be a financial disaster. Hence, common-sense dictates that the IN continue procuring more CM-2000 Scorpene SSKs with either the MAREEM AIP module or with Lithium-Ion Battery-based AIP solution. Advantage of the latter is that irt consumes far less space than other AIP Module solutions like Stirling Engine or MAREEM.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: 2) Funds are available, but are not being made public. For example, the IN’s CNS during his press-conference refused to answer anything about nuclear matters, even though the IN already operates 2 nuclear-powered submarines & will get its third nuclear-powered submarine in another 2 years. In the ASW arena, what the IN requires most are: 1) 12-tonne & 10-tonne shipborne NMRHs. 2) Towed-array active/passive sonars for all its DDGs & FFgs. 3) Thin-line towed array sonar for its SSKs. 3) Correct. 4) Because the country’s decision-makers still haven’t figured out how to create & sustain a financially viable military-industrial complex.

To JUST_CURIOUS: The half-life of the MAREEM AIP module has already been established, i.e. uninterrupted operation for 14 days. Once the total technical service life of the module is established, it will be ready for series-production sometime in early 2022. The Kestrel 8 x 8 requires customisation & ruggedisation, which can be achieved only after the vehicle has been subjected to user-trials. Right now, such trials are still ongoing.
To SUVO: 1) What is best will only emerge when the contenders are subjected to mobility & firepower trials in-country. 2 & 3) No.
To RAT2: Which type of IAF-operate MRCA is able to achieve air superiority inside hostile/contested airspace will become known only when such MRCAs are given the go-ahead to enter & prevail inside hostile airspace. As of now, there’s nothing to indicate that the Su-30MKIs are sub-optimal or are unable to carry out the taskings assigned to them. In fact, on the morning of February 27, 2019 the Su-30MKIs successfully neutralised the threats posed by AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs & that’s precisely what the PAF has till this day shied away from revealing exactly how many AMRAAMs were fired on that day.

I think the way forward is to go the global 6000 way instad of arguing with russia for their rusty old il-76 airframes and getting caught int their web for spares and other reliabliity propblems . As for the front section radar coverage a proven aesa radar like the 2052 with a large aperture for the front installed in the nose should do the job. Only a 60 degree cone at he back will be blind , but that is acceptable .
or is it possible to make a large antenna for the front nose cone ,using the same modules of the lstar and use the existing hardware in a time sharing mode?

Only the SSK’s OEM can supply all such data/parameters to the entity developing the AIP module.

To THE INDIAN: 1) Why should a SSK carry vertically-launched BrahMos-1 missiles when the SSK’s surface search radar can look out to a range of only 50km (horizon)? Instead, the projected BrahMos-NG that is narrower & smaller & can be fired from existing torpedo tubes is a far better option. 2) No, not arrays, but the ACTAS suite is being licence-assembled by L & T. 3) That was for the projected S-5/S-6/S-7 SSBNs, whose construction won’t commence until the latter half of the following decade. 5) I had been stating since 2014 that the IN requires a total of 28 P-8Is in all. As for NMRHs, the IN requires two 12-tonne NMRHs for each of its DDGs & two 10-tonne NMRHs for each of its FFGs & one 10-tonne NMRH for each of its ASW corvettes. So once you do the math, you will easily obtain the total numbers & types of NMRHs reqd by the IN.

To AMIT BISWAS: From both INS Vikramaditya & Project 71/IAC-1/INS Vikrant the naval MRCA to be used will be the MiG-29K, but for the projected IAC-2 CATOBAR carrier, the Super Hornet & Rafale-M are the only contenders. The IN is insisting on a CATOBAR design because it wants the Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye AEW platform & is therefore not interested in acquiring AEW helicopters for IAC-2.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: 1) Not 600, but only 118 units. And not Volvo, but Cummins engine. The principal drawback of the Arjun Mk.1A is the turret-mounted RCWS since it restricts the 360-degree view of the commander’s panoramic sight. Hence, the sight needs to be elevated further. Secondly, the 68-tonne weight reduces the power-to-weight ratio of the MBT, due to which this MBT cannot be the optimum solution for rapidly advancing into hostile territory. Hence such MBTs will be used for defensive purposes only in areas where the likelihood of armoured battles taking place is almost nil, i.e. along the IB in Punjab, Rajasthan & Gujarat. For offensive operations, the IA will continue to rely on the T-90S powered by both 1,000hp & now the 1,350hp powerpacks that offer superior power-to-weight ratios.
If the S-5/6/7 start construction after 2025, they should be ready in the 2031-35 time frame. With the 6000 km+SLBM beginning flight tests in 2023 or so, as per what you said earlier, the SLBM should have undergone several flights from a pontoon by the time the S-5, etc. go for trials. To SATYAKI: The S-5 SSBN won’t be available till 2035 at best. Hence the 6,000km-range SLBM should be available by then, but the S-4 SSBN will be used for test-firing both this SLBM & the K-4 SLBM.
To VED: The different types of sniper rifles are for the IA & the CAPFs like the BSF. LMG procurement is still being processed. The F-21 HWT will be procured in due course for the Scorpene SSKs as well as for the SSBNs.

M88 is having 75KN afterburner thrust whereas MiG 29k has >80kn afterburner thrust.... So in this way M88 will be under powered for MiG 29k. Also MiG 29k is heavier then Rafale-M. MiG29k may get decommissioned if navy gets better aircraft... I am not sure if they will go for change of hangers etc on ships at their MLU or ever for accommodating new aircraft.
And lastly, during the EX Eagle Strike-2015 joint training exercise in November 2015 held in Thailand, the J-11s & Su-27SKs of the PLAAF’s 6th Air Regiment belonging to the 2nd Air Diviision in Thailand prevailed over the RTAF’s JAS-39Cs in within-visual-range air combat, but were defeated in beyond-visual-range air combat. The term Union of India has been used for legal cases filed with the Indian Supreme Court because until late last October, the verdicts of the Indian Supreme Court were not automatically applicable to the State of J & K, meaning unless the erstwhile J & K State Legislature approved the Indian Supreme Court’s rulings, the J & K High Court could not accept or endorse the Indian Supreme Court’s verdicts as binding on the state of J & K. Now that this discrepancy has been removed, the GoI will change the wordings from Union of India to Republic of India.

And while the IAF did produce radar tracks to prove that a PAF F-16 was downed, no such evidence of this type/quality has been tabled to date by either Pakistan or the US. And as for the engagements between the PLAAF’s J-11s/Su-27UBKs & the RTAF’s JAS-39C Gripens, they were ‘controlled air warfare scenarios’ that were played out in which neither side was allowed to make use of any ASPJ suites, either internally-mounted or pod-mounted externally. In actual wartime air battles, such limitations will not exist & hence any Su-27-derived platform equipped with ASPJ suite will be fully capable of neutralising any inbound BVRAAM. Nor are there any fixed RCS quantums, since frontal & rear RCS quantums always differ. Consequently, RCS is the least issue of concern during dissimilar beyond-visual-range air combat.

Regarding the Feb 27th incident. I was shocked at the result, because IAFs budget is many times their budget (4 times as much) and we had the best aircraft in Asia. I have read a lot on this incident from all sources. Why do I think we came off worse:
-They came during the day and targeted our army HQs, whilst we targeted their terrorist facility - we have admitted this.
-They shoot Mig-21 down, bloody our pilot, in full international glare.

To RAT2: Leave alone objectivity, you are continuing to dabble in irrationalities. For instance, firstly your ASSUMPTION that just because the IAF spends 4 times more than the PAF, then it, according to you, means that all that amount is being spent to counter ONLY Pakistan, as if the IAF does not have to allocate resources for defending Indian airspace anywhere else. Thirdly, also in full international glare, a PAF F-16 was shot down & its video footage still exists in YouTube. The so-called independent analysis about no AAMs being fired by any IAF MiG-21 Bison was no third-party analysis, but images uploaded by the Pak ISPR. No one else was allowed to either inspect them or videograph them. And since when has ‘dodging’ AAMs become a cowardly act? Going official with radar intercept imagery says a lot, i.e. in private the complete recording of such continuous air situation pictures is always shared with friendly countries. Most significantly, neither the PAF nor the US has so far questioned the authenticity of such data. Now, coming to the expended AMRAAMs, since according to you an AMRAAM explodes only when it hits ‘something’, let me reveal to you what that ‘something’ is:
A second AIM-120C-5 that was probably fired against Wg Cdr Abhinandan’s wingman failed to hit its target (due to being spoofed by the EL/M-8222 ASPJ pod) and consequently it slammed into Mamankote Mallas village, Reasi, and caused an explosion that spread splinters and missile parts within a radius of 100 metres.
So, in the end we are left with the following: 1) Only 1 PGM was expended & that too way off its targetted point of impact. 2) Attack-runs on 3 other targets were aborted in haste. 3) None of the F-16s succeeded in achieving effective lock-ons to either the Su-30MKIs or the Mirage-2000s airborne at that time. 4) The PAF has to date not even provided any verifiable evidence about how many of its MRCAs were airborne during this engagement & exactly how many succeeded in entering India-controlled airspace. Hence, when all this is juxtaposed against your claims, it clearly emerges that you are dead-opposed to both LOGICAL REASONING & the LOGIC OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY, & instead are more inclined to reach emotive conclusions based upon your assumptions that are not backed-up by credible/verifiable data. And all this in turn clearly indicates from which direction you have been heading & what your intentions were, are & will always be.
One query remains on this old matter from various lessons learnt, as you have already pointed out. That the IAF is aggressive in controlling it's own airspace inspite of shortages & all air action took place over Pakistan (Balakot KPK) & POK too. More acquisitions are being made, SOPs being enforced (the blue-on-blue MI-17).
But will all combat aircraft be equipped with RWRs & SPJs in view of the fact that both Air Forces seem to be preparing for BVR action?

To ASHISH GAUTAM & BUDDHA: The NRC/CAB issues are multi-dimensional in nature that require deep assessment. For instance, in today’s world, it is IMPERATIVE/MANDATORY to have a NRC, in fact in India this could easily have been done since the 1950s itself everytime a national census was conducted. In countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand & Indonesia, where their independence was followed in the 1950s & 1960s by insurgencies & subversive activities, those countries were quick to realise the importance of a NRC & they introduced national identity cards in those decades itself. In India, the 1985 Assam Accords mandated that the GoI conduct an NRC starting with Assam & if proven to be successful, then this could be expanded to include all other states & UTs of India. The problem was especially acute in 3 states sharing boundaries with first East Pakistan & later Bangladesh, i.e. Assam, Tripura & Meghalaya. There, large-scale migrations first took place in 1940 during the Bengal famine, in 1946 after the Noakhaali riots, again in 1948 after Partition, then in 1956, 1965, 1971 & 1993. Consequently, only in Assam today, 19 lakh people have been declared as illegals of which only 7 lakh are Muslims & all the rest are Hindus. If the NRC was to be conducted in Meghalaya & Tripura as well, then the number of ‘illegal’ Hindus residing in the North east will go up much more. In Tripura, this has changed the demography due to which Bengali settlers form 80% of the state’s population today, In Sikkim, Nepali settlers account for 62% of the state’s population, reducing the natives (Bhutias & Lepchas) to a minority. In Assam, the situation is far less serious if one takes only the 35% Muslim population there into account. But if one adds to this number the Bengali settlers that migrated from April 1971 onwards, then the situation gets very alarming for the local Ahoms of Assam, because the non-native populace of Assam then outnumbers the Ahoms who in turn now also have to accommodate the Bodo hill-tribes who have since been resettled in the plains of Assam. Obviously this constitutes an unacceptable state of affairs in a country where states were created on linguistic basis. Consequently, the ideal solution would have been to accord Bengali-speaking settlers of Assam, Tripura & Meghalaya Indian citizenship, but not Assamese DOMICILE, with 1998 being the cut-off year. In addition, had India accurately documented the migrations from Bangladesh up to then, then the GoI should have pressured Bangladesh to part with some of its real estate (i.e. surrender land to India) where such settlers could have been accommodated. This to day is the biggest problem thrown up by the NRC, i.e. all those identified as illegals, be they Nepalese or Bengalis, have nowhere else to go even if granted Indian citizenship.
Logically, if both Bangladesh & Nepal do not want to get their citizens deported back, then they need to provide India with other forms of compensation, i.e. part with portions of their lands because the land now available to states like Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim, & WB is too little for accommodating the settlers. And if in future there’s once again domestic instability inside Bangladesh, then 1.97 crore Bengali-speaking Hindus will make a beeline for India. Where would they be accommodated? It is uncertainties like these that are causing fear & anger within the North East, as explained here:

As concerns the refugees hailing from Pakistan & Afghanistan, they number no more than 32,000 & the CAB covering them poses no controversy at all. The implementation of CAB thus has the worst repercussions for the North East, plus Sikkim & WB. From this, we can only conclude that the methodology adopted by this GoI for implementing both the NRC & CAB has not been well-thought-out, & is consequently being executed with paleolithic efficiency. Lastly, the GoI’s representatives, such as the present-day Union MHA Minister, has used absolutely the wrong type of words to describe friendly countries like Afghanistan & Bangladesh. For instance, neither of the 2 are theocratic states, nor is Bangladesh an Islamic State. In addition to your elaborate explanation about the NRC, I just wanted to make a couple of points based on my own experience of living in the North East as an outsider.
A majority of Hindu Bengalis who live in Assam i.e Goalparia Bengalis & Syleti Bengalis are indigenous unlike those of us who migrated to North East from Bengal in search of work.
In 1874 Assam was facing a major revenue deficit. To tide over that problem the Brits added Goalpara division (Lower Assam), Sylet and barak from Bengal province into Assam.
Even today 80% of Hindu Bengalis live in barak Valley remaining 20% in Lower Assam. In 1947 Congress handed over Sylet to Pakistan because they did not want Assam to become a Hindu Bengali state.
Subsequently throughtout the 50s,60s, 70s the Congress allowed lakhs of muslims from East Pakistan/B'desh to enter Assam and settle in Lower Assam(Goalpara, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar) and Barak Valley. If you look at any/all the census carried out since '47 you'll notice that the % of Hindu Bengalis in Assam has decreased not increased.
It's only the muslim population that has been increasing. NRC made it worse because lakhs of Hindus (Bengalis, Hindi Speaking) who submitted testimonials were told that those documents cannot be verified by assam govt because assam govt did not keep any such records, hence they were labelled illegals.
Muslims in any case define themselves as Assamese so they cannot be expelled. Ergo, the total number of Hindus living illegally in Assam is just 6 lakhs (even RSS admitted it last week).
North Eastern states have always been racist and xenophobic. Illegal immigrants, Bangladeshis are just pretext used to target people from other parts of India. Assam has its own border police apart from BSF. How can these B'deshis enter without being stopped ?

To VED: This MAREEM AIP module has been developed (with technical assistance from France’s NAVAL Group) to fit in to the single-hulled CM-2000 Scorpene SSK. It can also be accommodated on the single-hulled Class 209/Type 1500 SSK provided some re-engineering of the AIP module’s dimensions are undertaken. However, for the double-hulled Type 877EKM/Kilo-class SSK, the re-engineering & hull modification costs will be prohibitive, since the design of the Type 877EKM/Kilo-class SSK is not available to anyone in India.
To SRIRANGA: I had already done an assessment of Project-75I 4 years ago in which I had stated that procuring a new-design single-hulled SSK will be a financial disaster. Hence, common-sense dictates that the IN continue procuring more CM-2000 Scorpene SSKs with either the MAREEM AIP module or with Lithium-Ion Battery-based AIP solution. Advantage of the latter is that irt consumes far less space than other AIP Module solutions like Stirling Engine or MAREEM.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: 2) Funds are available, but are not being made public. For example, the IN’s CNS during his press-conference refused to answer anything about nuclear matters, even though the IN already operates 2 nuclear-powered submarines & will get its third nuclear-powered submarine in another 2 years. In the ASW arena, what the IN requires most are: 1) 12-tonne & 10-tonne shipborne NMRHs. 2) Towed-array active/passive sonars for all its DDGs & FFgs. 3) Thin-line towed array sonar for its SSKs. 3) Correct. 4) Because the country’s decision-makers still haven’t figured out how to create & sustain a financially viable military-industrial complex.

The Kestrel 8 x 8 requires customisation & ruggedisation, which can be achieved only after the vehicle has been subjected to user-trials. Right now, such trials are still ongoing.
To SUVO: 1) What is best will only emerge when the contenders are subjected to mobility & firepower trials in-country. 2 & 3) No.
To RAT2: Which type of IAF-operate MRCA is able to achieve air superiority inside hostile/contested airspace will become known only when such MRCAs are given the go-ahead to enter & prevail inside hostile airspace. As of now, there’s nothing to indicate that the Su-30MKIs are sub-optimal or are unable to carry out the taskings assigned to them. In fact, on the morning of February 27, 2019 the Su-30MKIs successfully neutralised the threats posed by AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs & that’s precisely what the PAF has till this day shied away from revealing exactly how many AMRAAMs were fired on that day.
To VENKY: The Kestrel requires further ruggedisation.
To MOHAN: 1) Because had the Kestrel been developed by OFB, then the MoD would easily have nominated OFB for the contract. But since the Kestrel has been developed with DRDO’s help by a private-sector company, the charade of competitive evaluations has to be played out. 2) Depends on what is meant by ‘near future’.

I think the way forward is to go the global 6000 way instad of arguing with russia for their rusty old il-76 airframes and getting caught int their web for spares and other reliabliity propblems .
As for the front section radar coverage a proven aesa radar like the 2052 with a large aperture for the front installed in the nose should do the job. Only a 60 degree cone at he back will be blind , but that is acceptable .
or is it possible to make a large antenna for the front nose cone ,using the same modules of the lstar and use the existing hardware in a time sharing mode?
other wise the mechanical risk of and cost and time of trying to put a rotodome on a A 330 , flight test it ,is cost prohibitive and a large target as well . The gloabal can be put in a hangar too.

How & from where can the DRDO obtain design & engineering data pertaining to the Scorpene SSK if not from NAVAL GROUP? If such data is not obtained from the SSK’s OEM, how then will the AIP module be engineered to conform to the SSK’s pressure-hull volume & all the piping/electrical interfaces? Only the SSK’s OEM can supply all such data/parameters to the entity developing the AIP module.

As for NMRHs, the IN requires two 12-tonne NMRHs for each of its DDGs & two 10-tonne NMRHs for each of its FFGs & one 10-tonne NMRH for each of its ASW corvettes. So once you do the math, you will easily obtain the total numbers & types of NMRHs reqd by the IN.

To AMIT BISWAS: From both INS Vikramaditya & Project 71/IAC-1/INS Vikrant the naval MRCA to be used will be the MiG-29K, but for the projected IAC-2 CATOBAR carrier, the Super Hornet & Rafale-M are the only contenders. The IN is insisting on a CATOBAR design because it wants the Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye AEW platform & is therefore not interested in acquiring AEW helicopters for IAC-2.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: 1) Not 600, but only 118 units. And not Volvo, but Cummins engine. The principal drawback of the Arjun Mk.1A is the turret-mounted RCWS since it restricts the 360-degree view of the commander’s panoramic sight. Hence, the sight needs to be elevated further. Secondly, the 68-tonne weight reduces the power-to-weight ratio of the MBT, due to which this MBT cannot be the optimum solution for rapidly advancing into hostile territory. Hence such MBTs will be used for defensive purposes only in areas where the likelihood of armoured battles taking place is almost nil, i.e. along the IB in Punjab, Rajasthan & Gujarat. For offensive operations, the IA will continue to rely on the T-90S powered by both 1,000hp & now the 1,350hp powerpacks that offer superior power-to-weight ratios.

With the 6000 km+SLBM beginning flight tests in 2023 or so, as per what you said earlier, the SLBM should have undergone several flights from a pontoon by the time the S-5, etc. go for trials. Is this a correct reading of the future ?

M88 is having 75KN afterburner thrust whereas MiG 29k has >80kn afterburner thrust.... So in this way M88 will be under powered for MiG 29k. Also MiG 29k is heavier then Rafale-M. MiG29k may get decommissioned if navy gets better aircraft... I am not sure if they will go for change of hangers etc on ships at their MLU or ever for accommodating new aircraft.

The term Union of India has been used for legal cases filed with the Indian Supreme Court because until late last October, the verdicts of the Indian Supreme Court were not automatically applicable to the State of J & K, meaning unless the erstwhile J & K State Legislature approved the Indian Supreme Court’s rulings, the J & K High Court could not accept or endorse the Indian Supreme Court’s verdicts as binding on the state of J & K. In actual wartime air battles, such limitations will not exist & hence any Su-27-derived platform equipped with ASPJ suite will be fully capable of neutralising any inbound BVRAAM. Nor are there any fixed RCS quantums, since frontal & rear RCS quantums always differ. Consequently, RCS is the least issue of concern during dissimilar beyond-visual-range air combat.

I always try to be objective. This ensures that I can ask the difficult questions. It does however mean that I can be wrong, but it gives me a chance to learn and improve. I always thought you had enough sheep here anyhow.
Regarding the Feb 27th incident. I was shocked at the result, because IAFs budget is many times their budget (4 times as much) and we had the best aircraft in Asia. I have read a lot on this incident from all sources. Why do I think we came off worse:
-They came during the day and targeted our army HQs, whilst we targeted their terrorist facility - we have admitted this.
-They shoot Mig-21 down, bloody our pilot, in full international glare.
-Our best aircraft SU-30MKI is dodging AMRAAMS and not firing back. Our ROE allows them to fire when fired upon and when they are trying to hit our bases (one of them was hosting our Gens meeting).
-We claim to have shot down an F-16, yet independent analysts admit no missile was fired from Mig-21, Pakis have showed them. They have invited people to inspect them. USA report says they counted all aircraft. IAF have no proof otherthan a still radar screenshot, which can be spoofed. Independent analysts (including some ex-IAF) did not buy it either. Hence I discount this.
-PAF claim to have shot down SU-30MKI, yet they have no proof apart from what they have shown to some British journalist. We showed an exploded AMRAAM, which according to USA sources can only explode when it hits something. We have not provided a count of our SU-30MKIs. I discount this too.
-We shot down our own helicopter with mid-ranking officers in it during their strike. This is a war loss caused by panic and their attack.
They dominated the whole incident and gained air superiority. Whereas we thought they will fly their aircraft to Iran. The invincibility of SU-30MKI is no more.
How can we say we didn't come off worst, if we look at this objectively to learn lessons and improve?

For instance, firstly your ASSUMPTION that just because the IAF spends 4 times more than the PAF, then it, according to you, means that all that amount is being spent to counter ONLY Pakistan, as if the IAF does not have to allocate resources for defending Indian airspace anywhere else. This is highly indicative of the single-track Pakistani mindset that spews out a narrative about the PAF existing to counter ONLY the IAF & no one else. Secondly, there’s no evidence anywhere to even suggest or imagine that Indian military facilities were targetted for destruction. In fact, even the PAF has admitted to only targetting the forested vegetation north of the IA’s FSD at Narian & its videoclip was subsequently shown by the PAF. Consequently, all claims of 4 Indian military targets being hit by the PAF have since been rubbished by the PAF’s own displayed evidence. In fact, the evidence clearly reveals that the remaining 3 attack-runs were aborted in haste after the PGMs were prematurely ejected before the targetting process even began. Thirdly, also in full international glare, a PAF F-16 was shot down & its video footage still exists in YouTube. The so-called independent analysis about no AAMs being fired by any IAF MiG-21 Bison was no third-party analysis, but images uploaded by the Pak ISPR. No one else was allowed to either inspect them or videograph them. And since when has ‘dodging’ AAMs become a cowardly act? Going official with radar intercept imagery says a lot, i.e. in private the complete recording of such continuous air situation pictures is always shared with friendly countries. Most significantly, neither the PAF nor the US has so far questioned the authenticity of such data. Now, coming to the expended AMRAAMs, since according to you an AMRAAM explodes only when it hits ‘something’, let me reveal to you what that ‘something’ is:

One query remains on this old matter from various lessons learnt, as you have already pointed out. That the IAF is aggressive in controlling it's own airspace inspite of shortages & all air action took place over Pakistan (Balakot KPK) & POK too. More acquisitions are being made, SOPs being enforced (the blue-on-blue MI-17).
But will all combat aircraft be equipped with RWRs & SPJs in view of the fact that both Air Forces seem to be preparing for BVR action?
India will ofcourse retain it's edge in CCM & dogfights, but BVR miisiles shall continue to be a threat, increasingly more & can best be handled over enemy airspace with ASPJs.
To JUST_CURIOUS: 1) In Sri Lanka there exists 2 different types of Tamil communities: the Jaffna Tamils who are the natives of the soil; and those Tamils whose forefathers were brought in by the colonial Brits as plantation workers. Colombo believes the latter to be stateless who ought to return back to India. Hence, the CAB does not mention Sri Lanka. One may also recall that back in 1962 Myanmar under the communist dictator Ne Win forcibly evicted the Tamil community of that country, just as the present-day Myanmar does not recognise as the natives of the soil even though they are of mixed bloodlines, i.e. ethnic Myanmarese who had inter-married with the immigrants of undivided pre-Partition Bengal & had settled down in the Arakan (Rakhine) region. 2) Even light tanks need roads for movement. The Rafales will come with all such mission avionics installed, while the MiG-29UPGs & upgraded Mirage-2000s already have them. To ASHISH GAUTAM & BUDDHA: The NRC/CAB issues are multi-dimensional in nature that require deep assessment. For instance, in today’s world, it is IMPERATIVE/MANDATORY to have a NRC, in fact in India this could easily have been done since the 1950s itself everytime a national census was conducted. In countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand & Indonesia, where their independence was followed in the 1950s & 1960s by insurgencies & subversive activities, those countries were quick to realise the importance of a NRC & they introduced national identity cards in those decades itself. In India, the 1985 Assam Accords mandated that the GoI conduct an NRC starting with Assam & if proven to be successful, then this could be expanded to include all other states & UTs of India. The problem was especially acute in 3 states sharing boundaries with first East Pakistan & later Bangladesh, i.e. Assam, Tripura & Meghalaya. There, large-scale migrations first took place in 1940 during the Bengal famine, in 1946 after the Noakhaali riots, again in 1948 after Partition, then in 1956, 1965, 1971 & 1993. Consequently, only in Assam today, 19 lakh people have been declared as illegals of which only 7 lakh are Muslims & all the rest are Hindus. If the NRC was to be conducted in Meghalaya & Tripura as well, then the number of ‘illegal’ Hindus residing in the North east will go up much more. In Tripura, this has changed the demography due to which Bengali settlers form 80% of the state’s population today, In Sikkim, Nepali settlers account for 62% of the state’s population, reducing the natives (Bhutias & Lepchas) to a minority. In Assam, the situation is far less serious if one takes only the 35% Muslim population there into account. But if one adds to this number the Bengali settlers that migrated from April 1971 onwards, then the situation gets very alarming for the local Ahoms of Assam, because the non-native populace of Assam then outnumbers the Ahoms who in turn now also have to accommodate the Bodo hill-tribes who have since been resettled in the plains of Assam. Obviously this constitutes an unacceptable state of affairs in a country where states were created on linguistic basis. Consequently, the ideal solution would have been to accord Bengali-speaking settlers of Assam, Tripura & Meghalaya Indian citizenship, but not Assamese DOMICILE, with 1998 being the cut-off year. In addition, had India accurately documented the migrations from Bangladesh up to then, then the GoI should have pressured Bangladesh to part with some of its real estate (i.e. surrender land to India) where such settlers could have been accommodated. This to day is the biggest problem thrown up by the NRC, i.e. all those identified as illegals, be they Nepalese or Bengalis, have nowhere else to go even if granted Indian citizenship.

Logically, if both Bangladesh & Nepal do not want to get their citizens deported back, then they need to provide India with other forms of compensation, i.e. part with portions of their lands because the land now available to states like Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim, & WB is too little for accommodating the settlers. And if in future there’s once again domestic instability inside Bangladesh, then 1.97 crore Bengali-speaking Hindus will make a beeline for India. Where would they be accommodated? It is uncertainties like these that are causing fear & anger within the North East, as explained here:

Regarding your analysis on NRC no offence but it most stupidest thing to do.
Ask for repatriation of illegal immigrants but asking for land is stupid.Obviously they won't cede territory.Will in addition make India look expansionist and will add to the fears of regional neighbours abt Indian bullying and will open space for china. Actually It is a cultural problem... not a real estate problem

In addition to your elaborate explanation about the NRC, I just wanted to make a couple of points based on my own experience of living in the North East as an outsider.
A majority of Hindu Bengalis who live in Assam i.e Goalparia Bengalis & Syleti Bengalis are indigenous unlike those of us who migrated to North East from Bengal in search of work.
In 1874 Assam was facing a major revenue deficit. To tide over that problem the Brits added Goalpara division (Lower Assam), Sylet and barak from Bengal province into Assam.
Even today 80% of Hindu Bengalis live in barak Valley remaining 20% in Lower Assam. In 1947 Congress handed over Sylet to Pakistan because they did not want Assam to become a Hindu Bengali state.
Subsequently throughtout the 50s,60s, 70s the Congress allowed lakhs of muslims from East Pakistan/B'desh to enter Assam and settle in Lower Assam(Goalpara, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar) and Barak Valley. If you look at any/all the census carried out since '47 you'll notice that the % of Hindu Bengalis in Assam has decreased not increased.
It's only the muslim population that has been increasing. NRC made it worse because lakhs of Hindus (Bengalis, Hindi Speaking) who submitted testimonials were told that those documents cannot be verified by assam govt because assam govt did not keep any such records, hence they were labelled illegals.
Muslims in any case define themselves as Assamese so they cannot be expelled. Ergo, the total number of Hindus living illegally in Assam is just 6 lakhs (even RSS admitted it last week).
North Eastern states have always been racist and xenophobic. Illegal immigrants, Bangladeshis are just pretext used to target people from other parts of India. Assam has its own border police apart from BSF. How can these B'deshis enter without being stopped ?
Earlier this year in Shillong, innocent students studying at NIT, Shillong were targetted by locals simply because they came from North & South India.
90% of the revenue of NE states comes from the Center, IOW Indian tax payers money. They get 85% reservation, 100% reservation on land, 100% tax free income and a few dozen subsidies. This is frankly bleeding India dry.
Yet these freeloader states will use discriminatory laws like ILP, PRC to prevent the entry, leave alone settlement of people from other parts of India.

I believe the realisation is already there that Muslim Bangladeshis posing as Assamese are the real culprits & Hindu Nengalis pose little risk to the Assamese, but economic disadvantage & the assumption that these poor people were in India & not hostile xenophobic territory might have made Hindus complacent to their disadvantage & not well integrated with Assam.

Wg.Cdr Joshi & ACM Dhanoa's viewpoints are accepted. It's certainly correct to heed the cautionary note by Shri.Pravin Sawhney regarding the then lack of SFDRs & still persistent deficiencies in communication, Electro-Magnetic spectrum & Cybernetic capability vis-a-vis PLAAF & PAF by extension because of their inter-operability, joint training etc. The PLAAF ofcourse has deficiencies but it's never wise to look at only what we like as you also have pointed out many times. Even during UPA time they were negative - mostly on rapes. But ever since Modi became PM their hostility has crossed all limits. Have you noticed how the western media NYT, WaPo and all others use the term 'Hindu nationalist' in each and every article/report they do on Modi, BJP and GoI? Nationalism is a bad word in the West. In India it's not. They probably know this and yet use this term in western context for Modi and his govt. They went crazy on Kashmir after 370 was scrapped. Criticism regarding political detentions and cutting off internet (done to save lives) is understandable for once since it doesn't happen in the West but what creates suspicion is that they never once mentioned Islamic terrorism or about the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits let alone the Valmikis who were forced to work as sanitation workers and West Pakistan refugees who were denied all basic rights. Now they have gone mad on CAB and painting Modi and Amit Shah as fascists. The US foreign affairs committee shared a very negative NYT story about CAB on twitter. While the wordings of the tweet was restrained and our MEA gave a befitting response, question is why did they do that? The whole world knows what these chutiyas - sorry to use this word - are doing to imigrants in their own country by separating children from their families and yet they have the audacity to give gyan to rest of the world. One US agency is even calling for sanctions on Amit Shah. Strong and confident countries don't give a damn about these things and I'm sure no one in the govt is worried about all this. But what is the reason behind such immense hatred? What wrong have we done that we are being vilified like this?

1) Mr Sawhney spoke well on domain of EM warfare, our weaknesses even on time of Balakot n in present too. Critic comments by him were good but not well. PAF did better then us in terms of EM warfare i don't agree with him completely coz yes they managed to jam our comms for sometime but dodging of 5 AMRAAMs by su30mki was a great success on our side.
Also he said that su30s took off n they didn't knew where to go n landed back i was laughing at that time on him that how can such a matured aged person make such a claim?? Where did he got such info from?? Coz in your Balakot thread it was clearly mentioned that su30s were actually flying away from location of skirmish on 27 Feb. 2) Sawhney sir said that PAF us getting some good enough EMW systems n ryt now their entire focus is on fine tuning PAF in various zones, how u see this comment as?? What should we do now to maintain effective edge on them.
3) our Astra n other AAMs which r actively guided ka/ku band seekers may turn out to be useless if PAF gets good enough ka/ku band jammers like we have. What can be done to improve performance of present missiles in arsenal in terms of seeker specially to overcome this problem?? 6) u have already told about super su30mki upgrade package etc. Question is since russian AESA tech is still under refinement n may take time to get matured what can be done to improve performance of present radar of aircraft n IRST too? coz am not sure if their new IRST is as good as other counterparts be it French or Americans.
7) lady in that fest Ms Fair was quite upset with F16 getting shot down by bison n it was clearly visible from her opening comments saying if u can shoot down mighty (so called) F16 with bison then u don't need new aircraft n blah blah blah, bechari ka business hit hua lgta hai F16 k girne se 😂😂 F21 ka mmrca jeetna or mushkil 😛. Jokes apart do u think that govt may directly order additional 114 rafale's for airforce "if they closely analyse our present situation n need of aircrafts in large qty to maintain edge"?? Coz su30mki upgrade may eat up to 5years n still we aren't sure how will it perform after upgrading especially in terms of radar n other sensors. Just for example i don't know if new engine of 145kn afterburner thrust will be able to give upto 4-5 sorties per day.
8) ACM dhanoa accepted shortfall in tech availablity at time of skirmish n frankly said that s400 may be able to fill the gap till some extent but we need much more system's. It was clearly about Sam's. What u see aa a roadmap now for new inductions in terms of SAM capability & how soon?? Will this thing force folks to establish a national air defence system integrated one?? Or still going on with same old school tacts??
