Pakistan’s on-going EX Sea Spark 2015, jointly conducted by the Pakistan Navy and the
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in the northern Arabian Sea, has seen the
participation of the PAF’s ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle
KE-3 AEW & CS platform for the very first time in a simulated joint
services warfighting environment.
During this exercise, the PAF’s ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle KE-3, apart from providing airspace surveillance of
Pakistan’s Makran coastline, also extended airborne battlespace management
support to not only the Pakistan Navy, but also for the PAF’s MRCAs operating
out of Masroor air base.
The PAF’s Masroor air base in Sindh province is
presently home to No.2 ‘Minhas’ Squadron flying F-7P Airguard L-MRCAs (which in
future will convert to the FC-1/JF-17 Thunder L-MRCAs), No.4 Squadron with four
four ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle KE-3 AEW
& CS platforms, No.7 ‘Bandits’ Squadron with upgraded Mirage-3EA/Mirage-3DP
MRCAs, No.8 ‘Haiders’ Squadron with Mirage-5PA maritime strike aircraft (to be
replaced in the near future by up to eight FC-1/JF-17 Thunders armed with CM-802A and CM-400AKG anti-ship
cruise missiles), and No.22 ‘Ghazis’ Squadron with Mirage-3D/E MRCAs.
Immediately west off Masroor air base is an
underground base—one of three that Pakistan now possesses—housing some of
Pakistan’s nuclear warheads and SRBM/TBM ballistic missiles, which are kept
there in a semi-recessed state. It is for this reason that the Masroor air base
is equipped to provide ‘hardened air-cover’ for such nuclear WMD storage sites.
The other air bases tasked with providing hardened air-cover include the air
base at Jacobabad, Rafiqui air base
in Shorkot, and the air base at Sargodha.
The four ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle KE-3 AEW & CS platforms worth US$278 million were
ordered in early 2008 from prime contractor China Electronics
Technology Group Corp (CETC). Xi’an-based Shaanxi
Aircraft Corp built the aircraft. For operating these aircraft, the PAF secured
approval for raising No.4 Squadron on November 27, 2010. This Squadron was
raised on August 10, 2011 at the PAF’s Masroor air base. The first ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle KE-3 arrived there on November 29, 2011, and its
acceptance sorties was flown on December 29 the same year. The full-strength
Squadron was formally commissioned on February 26, 2015.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 273 of 273To Sethz,
Everyone would like that to happen i.e. manufacture Rafales locally BUT BUT
the article itself says Dassault MAY MAY...
As Prasunda most often mentions, ANYTHING that starts with MAY has to be taken with a bit of salt...Loll
So i am asking the knowledgeable Prasunda...I specially don't trust these reports UNTIL concrete evidence is given....
To BIRBAL: How can there be a follow-on contract 'in the near future' when the first contract itself will take 7 years to be fulfilled? The 2nd tranche will therefore be ordered only after another 3 years. And of what use is 50% direct industrial offsets when even 15% cannot be absorbed for existing offsets commitments? The only alternative therefore is to go for indirect industrial offsets involving other industrial sectors, & not just the aerospace sector. If the contract value for the follow-on orders is to be kept low, then the only way to do it is to: 1) have the Rafales produced in semi-knocked-down condition & undertake their final assembly in India, since this is the most labour-intensive part of the manufacturinhg process. 2) ensure a high degree of commonality of components for both the Rafale & Tejas Mk2/LCA (Navy) Mk2.
There will not be any direct ToT for any major components or sub-systems. No OEM in the world undertakes such ToT, since design IPRs are never shared, not even by the Russians. Therefore, all that companies like SAMTEL do is to undertake final assembly of AMLCDs. SAMTEL neither possesses any IPRs or production-process patents for LED panels, nor for their processors. Same goes for SAGEM's SIGMA-95N RLG-INS that is licence-assembled by HAL's Korwa-based Avionics Division. And the Falcon family of bizjets are by no means low-cost; they represent the high-end of business aviation aircraft. Only Raytheon & Embraer make low-cost bizjets.
To SETHZ: The design proposed by Navantia for the IN's LPH reqmt is a flat-top. No ski-ramps or catapults. No fixed-wing aircraft will be operated from the LPHs. Navantia's design is therefore a derivative of the Canberra-class, but will not be identical to the RAN's vessel. Had the IN preferred its LPHs to be equipped with ski-ramps, then all contenders would have offered this option, especially the likes of Fincantieri. But this has not happened, meaning the IN has not specified any such reqmt for ski-ramps for its projected LPHs.
To JOYDEEP GHOSH: 1) The IN’s projected 15,000-strong naval infantry force is meant for expeditionary operations within the IOR, & not the kind of operations staged by the USMC. Therefore, the IN does not require a fleet of six aircraft carriers. Two will suffice. 2) Stage-2 is done worldwide on BTTs. Therefore, the IAF isn’t breaking any new ground here. The projected ‘Combat Hawk’ is likely to end up as a LIFT, albeit a subsonic one. This is a bad idea, since even the Philippine Air Force yesterday began receiving supersonic FA-50s from South Korea’s KAI to serve as LIFT. 3) Why? Because beggars can’t be choosers. You can take only what’s available on the table before you. 4) As of now the IN will get 12 P-8Is, but the reqmt is for 24, considering the size of the IOR. It makes no sense to go for MRMR. The LRMR & MRMR reqmts should be fused as one & the IN should stick to the P-8I. No one else today operates two types of MR/ASW platforms in the same navy. For maritime patrol & SAR, the ICGS ought to go for the US-2i amphibians & do away with the short-range Do-228s. 5) Read this:
http://indianexpress.com/article/explained/the-method-to-turkeys-mad-shootdown-of-a-russian-jet/
6) Because this is what the game of brinkmanship is all about. 7) Absolutely not. The NTRO undertakes only defensive & reactive operations.

" How can there be a follow-on contract 'in the near future' when the first contract itself will take 7 years to be fulfilled? " - VERY TRUE
" The 2nd tranche will therefore be ordered only after another 3 years "- Yah i should have asked you about the 2nd tranche NOT the follow-on contract. So the 2nd TRANCHE will most probably be the 44 Rafales that wiil be ordered to make-up the total of 80 Rafales as told by you earlier...Correct me if wrong.
"....have the Rafales produced in semi-knocked-down condition & undertake their final assembly in India, since this is the most labour-intensive part of the manufacturinhg process "
I have read Dassault is in talks with some of the private aerospace companies for this purpose of assembling future tranches of Rafales in semi-knocked down configuration or completely knocked down configuration in future...!!!Hope to enlighten us...
Good night Prasun da.
With regards,
Pallab.
To PALLAB: Even for licenced-final assembly, the figure of 44 is far too low to become economically viable. It will have to be far more than that, if fact, more than double that number number of 80. There's simply no other option, because the Jaguar IS will be used as tactical interdictors, & not DPSAs. The only platform capable of replacing the Jaguar IS as low=level DPSA is the Rafale. That's the bottom line. So, either the IAF acquires Rafales in appreciable numbers for performing low-level deep penetration air-strikes, or the IAF relinquishes the role of low-level deep-strikes altogether. The choice then becomes obvious.
The Mukesh Ambani-led industrial group will be involved with the Rafale, not the Anil Ambani-led group. Kits cannot be supplied in completely knocked-down condition because the Rafale's airframe is built with machined sub-sections, not rivetted ones as in the case of Su-30MKI. The other option is to progressively do the machining of airframe sections & sub-sections at lower cost & dispatch them back to Dassault, i.e. the buy-back provision that also comes under direct industrial offsets. This is similar to what Boeing is now doing for the CH-47F & AH-64E industrial offsets commitment.

So when do you think it will become CLEAR when the IAF will go for MORE Rafales or not?
What's the main reason behind for ordering so low a figure of 36 Rafale??? Even the UAE, being a small country with only Iran to contend, with i heard will be ordering about 60+ Rafales. You said earlier that provisions will be there for ordering MORE Rafales in future tranches.....upto 189.
When do you think will all these things become PRETTY CLEAR? Can we expect these things to become pretty clear during French President Francois Hollande's visit to India???
Thanks.

the arjun mk2(1A) seems to have gone for ERA tiles on top of khanchan armour for improved armour protection on the turrent instead on more composite armour in the form of add on modules, like on the western heavy tanks like leopard 2 A6,A7,SG(singapore army),is there any particular reason for that i.e does ERA provide better protection than more composite armour? also is there any progress on the NERA AMOUR project? Was APS like ironfist not pursued because of cost reason?

Prasun ji, who do you think should be worrying more about this (or other such) developments. The Afghans or the people investing there (us in this case)? I believe after decades of continuing Taliban problems, they must have gotten used to it.
How do you believe we will be acting to protect or develop such investments in Afghanistan? I'm still waiting for those Hinds to be delivered and those Garuds to get down & dirty. Or has the Kunduz episode changed those equations mentioned by you before in any way?
That said, there is a view put forth by some Afghan forum-dwellers online that the Kunduz episode was useful as an instrument to instill greater faith in ANA/Govt. and less in the so-called anti-Taliban militias active in that region (many of whom could be traced back to Northern Alliance groups). It is viewed that this whole siege has made it more than clear to the civilian population (even fighters) of that area that only ANA can provide any semblance of control or defence against the Taliban and that the militias are basically useless.
I don't know to what degree the Kunduz episode may have helped the Afghan establishment (even the decision of more Western forces to stay back was sited as a positive development) as a whole, or to what extent indeed it was allowed to happen in the first place...was it entirely orchestrated by the Govt. to bring forth the above mentioned "benefits" by baiting the talibs to attack one of their cities, or was there something the establishment could have done to prevent/better defend against such attacks but just chose to pass to reap the said benefits.
I dunno if this is a valid view (maybe they realized the benefits after they actually got them) or is just a conspiracy theory/face-saving measure? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Huge thanks in advance.
Would like your comments on this article:

Given the recent test of the Naval version of Barak 8 by the Israeli Navy how far away is India from deploying the Air Force version of the missile?
To BIRBAL/PALLAB: Things could have become clear last October itself had the ‘desi’ news-reporters asked the IAF’s CAS to clarify matters. But no one did so? Still, the IAF’s CAS stated on-record that the IAF requires 6 squadrons of Rafales. Things cannot get clear anymore.
To HOODS: That’s because ERA tiles were available as the immediate option. Development of conformal add-on armour panels would have consumed more time when the IA was asking for immediate solutions. NERA option has been dropped since APS offers a more lightweight active-defence solution. R & D work on composites-based ceramic add-on armour is still underway. APS installation remains an expensive option to exercise if the entire MBT fleet of the IA is taken into consideration. But APS installation on a limited number of tanks like the 310 T-90S due for mid-life upgrade will proceed, whenever the mid-life upgrade gets underway.
To MG6357: So the cat is finally out of the bag! It was the Ruskies who were holding back their component of the risk-sharing co-development of the IL-214 MRTA. It was the Ruskies that were backtracking & were not releasing their share of the R & D funds. That’s crystal-clear now.
To SBM: Is that so? I haven’t seen any photos showing this to be ther case.
To GESSLER: The news-item clearly states that the project has been suspended, not cancelled. Therefore, to give a headline saying that the project won’t be pursued is clearly mischievous. As for –I don't know to what degree the Kunduz episode may have helped the Afghan establishment—you are saying this because you haven’t yet watched this:
Interesting debate on Afghanistan's Pivot to India:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjqNw3ZPiTo
One of the first things the Afghan Taliban did after attacking & entering Kunduz was to stone a woman to death. Such incidents have made the ordinary Afghans totally detest the Afghan Taliban, especially the younger generation of Afghan citizens making up the lower middle-class & upper middle-class strata of Afghan society.
Also, read this following Op-Ed which details the POV of Afghanistan’s ruling establishment:.
http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/columns/india-and-afghanistan-traditional-friends-modern-allies/article7884477.ece
To JON: Do you really want to believe such bullshit that is a violation of all laws of physics? Even if any SSK running on batteries & cruising underwater at 3 Knots, its propeller is still operating & causing cavitation, which can easily be detected by any sonar suite operating in the passive mode on board another nearby submarine. The Barak-2 LR-SAM will be required to undergo at least 9 more live-fire tests before being installed on board any P-15A DDG.
BTW, the version of the LCA to be inducted into service (i.e. the IAF-specific version of the LCA (Navy) Mk1) is now known as LCA Mk1. That will be the official designation of the IAF. Not Tejas Mk1 or Tejas Mk1A or anything else. And what is planned to fly in 2018 will be the Technology Demonstrator of the Tejas Mk2 MRCA, & NOT the definitive prototype. That's the word from ADA.
Hi Prasun,
1) Why the need for technology demonstrator again, could ADA not go directly to Protoype stage. I thought TD stage was specifically to prove the flyability of the plane which was amply demonstrated for past 15 years, so is it required?
2)For this LCA Mk1 what is the empty weight, and payload weight? What is its endurance capacity in air-air configuration and in ground attack configuration?
Regards,
Santosh
Prasun JI,
I noticed in the Eurofighter(pic below)the nose gear door is shorter than the nose gear bay itself by a good few inches. What is the reason for this?
http://imgur.com/Ep07afh
Thanks
Sir,
This means all the orders by the IAF is of LCA Mk.1(Navy) & not one plane of previously intended version going to be delivered by the HAL?
To SANTOSH: Because the Tejas Mk2 will be a heavier aircraft whose flight-control logic & the fly-by-wire flight control system will be all-new, plus a new-design fuselage & wings & will therefore have to be subjected to more than 2,000 hours of flight-tests. Therefore, 1 flying technology demonstrator & 1 static airframe for fatigue-testing will be reqd.
2) It will be more or less the same as that of the LCA (Navy) Mk1. Endurance parameters depends on the availability of aerial refuelling tankers, since the LCA Mk1 will have a retractable aerial refuelling probe from UK-based Cobham.
To CHETAN SINHA: That photo was taken when the door was still retracting & wasn't fully shut.
To ARPIT KANODIA: As for previous orders, only 20 Tejas Mk1s have been ordered, & not 40 as expected or stated earlier.

on your comment at 4.33 AM, ridiculous theories, why can the indian diaspora not feel a part of 2 cultures, one where they were born and raised, and other where they found professional opportunities, while being patriotic to both. Longing for one's home country is a natural instinct - it is not due to a feeling of insecurity or lack of purpose in the new habitat. After many years India has a strong, charismatic leader who is making bold decisions (most right, and some wrong, as is with all decisions) and trying to cure the lacunae and paralysis that affected our bureaucracy. What is wrong if the 1st generation Indian diaspora is attracted to this leadership? So if NRIs love cricket and Virat Kohli, is it because they do not or cannot love American Football or Soccer. This guy is crazy with his generalizations.

@Prasun dada, indeed desibandalbaz is wrong in his assessment, yet AGAIN. NRI's thronging Modi shows hope they repose in this Man to make India as prosperous as the country of their work or their new home. NRI's going back and forth b/w India and their new countries is a meaning less argument. Today, all diaspora be it Chinese, Korean or Japanese etc...make best use of economic opportunities available in their country of origin and their new adopted country.

Dear Prasunji,
I was about to draw you attention towards "Bandalbaaz'"'s that program but it seems you already noticed it. :) His views were deplorable & obnoxious at best, full of contempt for all educated NRIs who can have intelligent views about events in India. According to him & host of show NRI should sent money, lobby for India but don't ask anything.
Its seems his pain was arising out of support that Modi get abroad but somehow his favourite party congress is not able to get.

Dear Prasun,
Thanks for your reply.
From My school & college days I have read so much of tamil literature as one of my subject. Tamil literature says about tamil is the oldest and classic language. I have studied the sangam age tamil literature which are highly rich in knowledge e.g. "Tolkappiyam". As per many expert’s " Tolkappiyam " is the very oldest book in the world which gives more info about ancient period.
My question is now a days I am watching many documentaries regarding Tamil with Sumerian Connections. "SUMMERIAN-LEMURIA-KUMARI KANNDAM" with Tamil Links. Now I see one you tube documentary about tamil connection with Cameroon Country. And another documentary talk about Iraq Yazidis worship Tamil God Muruga.
1) Do you believe Tamil is the oldest Language?
2) Dravidians are the first to settle in India?
3) People like Subramainam samy says Aryaan-Dravidian theory is fake.
4) Do you believe "SUMMERIAN-Tamil" connection.
5) Is there exist Tamil Sangam 1 & 2 which is submerged in Lemuria (Kumar Kandam) ?
6) Why Muruga God is called as Tamil God and other parts of India is not worshiping?
7) Do you believe only tamil & Sanskrit are Indian Classic Languages?
But because of Indian Politics many languages are called as Classic Language.

Prasun,
You bloody bundlebaaz. You mentioned on your blog last year that INS Sindhukirti was a writeoff. These are your exact words:
"INS Sindhukirti S-61, which was commissioned on October 30, 1989, has been declared as a writeoff." http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/the-blind-leading-blind.html
Now this submarine is sailing around and almost every news channel is showing it. That makes one ask, where do you manufacture your facts for this blog? From your smelly buttocks?

Dear Chadha,
"That makes one ask, where do you manufacture your facts for this blog? From your smelly buttocks"
First try to Respect others views & thoughts and avoid such kind low level writing.
According to me, Prasun is in defense field for decades having links with many defense experts, companies, brochures, literature, etc.
So one should consider those who have vast knowledge, Skills & experience in a particular field as SME - Subject Master Expert. To me he is a SME in defense area.
His conclusion of " INS Sindhukirti" write off may be correct based some input parameters & Circumstances. May be those parameters & Circumstances changed due to unknown reasons.
If you want to comfort him, you should do your homework with all relevant data, present to him & ask him why your option goes wrong.
Not like the way you posted...
Another one thing you should know that he is giving his OPINION. His opinion may be wrong or correct. That's up to you to cross check & take it or leave it.

THUMBS UP S.KUMAR....

Dear Birbal,
In today's world there are lot of "HIGHLY KNOWLEDGEABLE" people with zero experience. People with at least 20 to 30 years working in a particular field get in-dept experience & knowledge. Before presenting article you should do your homework with facts & data and finally with your experience & knowledge you should present with your opinion.
But in today's world you don't want brain. Just go to google download the matter, copy & paste, Present it and get the name of "CONSULTANT" OR "SECURITY EXPERTS" and if you have more influence you can come to TV LIVE Shows and talk & advice others.
Now a days there are lot of "LAPTOP" Warriors or "ARM CHAIR" tigers giving more ideas and suggestion without working in the field. May be CHADHA comes under this case.
What to say. World is moving in that direction.....
Thanks

@Chadha, Prasun Da, may have made a guesswork, on that blog in 2014, but that should not and does not necessarily makes him target of your sudden abusive verbals, if you simply don't like his blog, you are free to stop lurking in his blog.
To CHADHA: Yes, I was indeed the one to state that the Sindhykirti was a writeoff & I was also the first one to state that after its mid-life refit, this very SSK will be utilised as a training platform after the decommissioning of all of the IN's Project 641 SSKs. But of course, given your mindset, you never took heed of this fact & instead you're being selective with your past recollections. And judging by the posts of other bloggers above, we all have a pretty good idea about the reasons for your regressive mindset.
To BIRBAL/PALLAB: The CAS was referring to the need for close air-support platforms, be it the LCA Mk1 or the Combat Hawk.
To LACHIT: LoLz! Really? And pray, what exactly are they discussing about me? Can you kindly post some examples? That will enable all of us to 'map' their mindsets in even greater detail. Hope you could oblige. VMT.
To S KUMAR: Your point of departure should be: why is that the temples & Gopurams throughout southern India have conical design architectures that are identical to what has already been built & flown since the 1960s, i.e. the A.R.V. Fluxliner?
As for what the Fluxliner is all about, do watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HcFH-1h12Y
All this will give you a pretty good idea of what Kumari Kandam was all about & also about the 'Sangams' that used to be held there. Till today, no one has been able to explain why exactly do temples in general (of almost all--if not all--faiths) & Stupas sport a conical design architecture.
To PAWAN: Excellent move! Creativity like this will lead to more job creation within a short timespan:

@prasun
i tried to find the threads but without success.
too many threads and blame my poor memory
but from what i can recall it was related to the authenticity and credibility of ur posts among other technical related discussions.
and by the way ur trishul tagged pictures r a regular feature there.
opinion seems to be divided regarding u among indian members in defence.pk lolzz
sorry for my poor memory
next time i come across such posts i will surely post it lolzzz
on the hind sight why even bother u r doing a good job here and many of us appreaciate u for it.

1what's the status of Technical Support Division (TSD) now? are they still active?
2 Can the the first 4 Scorpene SSK's be fitted with AIP modules 10-15 years down the line?
Thanks! and keep up the good work.
Prasunda-
A question, don't know if its too simplistic, if 2 M88 engines (50/75 kn D/W thrust) can power a Rafale, why can 2 Kaveri's or 2 GE 414s as is not power the AMCA. Why is uprating to 110-125Kn required? Or is this just a forward looking spec to keep the aircraft relevant after 2 decades post release, so for the next 30 yrs. Why is a similar argument not applicable to Rafale?
Secondly, do you have any updates on what exactly has happened after the shelving of Kaveri project? Is there work ongoing to have PPP or JV on either core engine tech, crystal blade tech, or TVC, etc that might help in 2020 or 2025?
Thanks
Ashish
If it will take 7 years to execute the first Rafale contract, then it would be better to procure F-18E/F to fill the remaining 153 MMRCA deficit. The initial 36 is enough of a "bait" or leverage for SSN manufacture, while operating one small Rafale fleet and one large F-18 fleet will be cheaper than one large Rafale fleet. (This reasoning is based off of export contracts that have already been inked.)
Of course, if the initial Rafale deal has clauses that stipulate follow-on orders and has contract breaking penalties, this would not be possible.
Dear Prasun,
Your links describes about “Alien Reproduction Vehicles” something like UFO & Extraterrestrial.
From this what is the link between APV and Kumari Kandam or Lemuria Continent.
1) Are you saying that KumariKandam/Sangam exist outside the Earth Structure?
2) Are you saying there is something special in South Indian Temple structure and Alien?
Please explain in detail. I am not able visualize what U R Saying.
Thanks
S.Kumar

So much for reform.
Dear Prasun,
Looks Like INS Arihant will join the Service from 2016. Now INS Aridhaman is due to take off. What is the status of INS Aridhaman and what about 3rd & 4th Vessel Status.
Please comments.
Thanks

Interview with one of the finest Indian historian and why he thinks what is happening wrt intolerance in India is nothing new:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-34943206
"There was never a "golden age" in India, despite what all stripes of myth-makers like to claim."
@RaviN,
Would love to see what the widow on mohammed akhlaq would say about tolerance in India. We all know how intolerant some people are, there is no point is trying to whitewash it!
This is big news if this is true
http://www.news18.com/news/uttar-pradesh/photos-ufo-spotted-in-gorakhpur-panic-grips-residents-843921.html
But it seems more like photoshoped.
Hi Prasun,
Take a look at these photos and you'll see no armament or EO turret on Goa OPV at commissioning and L40/60 on IPV (no EO either).

@anthony
i read the article in the link u provided
a qoute from the article
"How tolerant has India been as a civilisation?
As a historical space, India has been no more or less virtuous than any other part of the world.
Why do we also need to claim that we are better than everybody else? It is precisely because we are not, that we need to examine our own present as well as our past with a critical eye.
The student of Indian history finds no lack of violence of all sorts in the Indian past, whether based on religion, caste, colour, xenophobia, or political jockeying."
using this logic no civilization anywhere in the world at any point of time in the past and in the present can claim to be tolerant.
so why the spotlight on india?
because it is the latest fashion fad for wannabe intellectuals?
or nothing better to do for the hyprocrates?
i dont think there exists a scale in this world where u can judge a civilization,
or better no morally perfect human exists in the world who can make the call on any civilization including Sanjay Subrahmanyam, who teaches in the US and France lolzzz
how gullible r we ?
keep gloating over ur perception
we indians have not taken the burden to be moral torch bearers of "morally twisted concept of intolerance " where the life and honour of a hindu is put way below that of a muslim or a christian or any body.
wanna start a discussion on US and french intolence mr.anthony?
or like amir khan ur hyprocratic answer will be "this is the intoleance i was talking about"
get a life
nobody is perfect
nobody has the high moral standing in this world to point at others
u can always go to US and FRANCE if u r threatened by indian intolence
then dud ka dud pani ka pani ho jayega
sabe

Sir,
If IL-214 is a risk sharing R&D project, then why Russians have problem if India equip the Indian version with western engines?
RE: http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13940905000553
This is what is known as a typical air-mobile CSAR operation--the kind which the IAF's Garud SOF formation caters to. Exact GPS coordinates of downed aircrew cannot be obtained from anywhere else via any other airborne platform, manned or unmanned. Instead, the downed aircrew uses what is called a Personal Locator Beacon--a handheld radio that also contains a beacon transmitter. Only after this is used is one able to localise the terrain or CSAR operations. While armed air-assault helicopters & attack helicopters can be used for sanitising the area, familiarity of the terrain is of utmost importance & this is why the combined Hezbollah-Syrian SOF team was chosen to lead the ground element of the CSAR operation. During such missions, localised wide-band EW jamming--primarily GPS & comms jamming--is resorted to by airborne fixed-wing or rotary-winged platforms flying at medium altitudes in order to totally isolate the area & prevent hostile reinforcements from pouring in. But such jamming cannot be undertaken once the CSAR team on the ground is already within visual sighting distance of the target-to-be-rescued--in case the target is still free to use his hand-held personal locator beacon for two-way comms. Even if the target is in custody of hostile forces, localised EW jamming cannot be resorted to just prior to the hostage rescue effort.
It was a Russian Marine EW detachment that provide the EW jamming cover from the air. Russian Army air-assault & attack helicopters could not directly fly in close to the area of operations because the Free Syrian Army rebels (and not ISIS) have access to the FN-6 MANPADS of Chinese origin (they are re-engineered MISTRALs) that were procured by Saudi Arabia from Sudan's military stocks.& then supplied to the Free Syrian Army.
In India, the IAF prior to the mid-1990s never issued any personal locator beacons to any of its combat aircraft pilots. In other words, from 1947 till the mid-1990s, only search-and-rescue (SAR) was the norm. Combat Search-and-Rescue (CSAR) was introduced within the IAF only in the latter half of the 1990s & personal locator beacons were sourced from the UK, while SATCOM systems for the Garud as well as the Army's SF (Para) battalions came from US-based Harris Corp after 2002.
@rasun
do u have any info on the avaibility of cluster warhead with fuel-air-explosive-filled cluster bomblets for TOS-1
could not find it on google searches.
thanks
To LACHIT: They are primarily hyperbaric sub-munitions used in higher altitudes where the atmosphere is rarified. Russia developed such warheads for use in high-altitude mountain warfare, in areas like the northern Caucasus.
To ARPIT KANODIA: That’s because every OEM aspires to have the cake & eat it as well.
To SBM: That’s because of 1 reason: the photos were taken when the vessels were undergoing sea-trials ahead of schedule. Shipyards like GSL & CSL along with that of L & T have been constructing the vessels ahead of schedule, due to which there is a mismatch of hardware arriving for fitment from OFB & foreign vendors. On top of that is the manpower shortage of the IN & ICGS. Therefore, the shipyards nowadays ‘deliver’ the vessel to the IN, instead of allowing the vessels to lie around in anchorage or alongside waiting for the crew complement or fitments to arrive.
To ARPIT KANODIA: Doesn’t look like the photos are photoshopped. But it’s interesting because of similar sightings in the very recent past:
http://www.ufosightingsdaily.com/2015/11/three-giant-ufos-over-thailand-during.html
http://www.ufosightingsdaily.com/2015/11/passanger-on-american-airlines-sees-ufo.html
From the looks of it, it appears that this is a mothership emerging from an inter-dimensional wormhole. The size indicates that this mothership is almost 6 miles in diameter & 28 storeys high.
To S KUMAR: It will not enter service as in ‘being commissioned into service’. Rather, it will be ‘delivered’ to the IN, with the IN then taking its time to commission its various weapons fitments in a staggered manner, just as is the case with INS Kolkata & INS Kochi.
To GOPU: Not quite. The proposals actually are correcting a grave wrong that was perpetrated due to AKA’s inability to exercise due diligence & the bureaucracy’s inclination to shy away from placing repeat orders for fear of attracting allegations of corruption. For instance, if a vendor is supplying pipes or valves for the 1st production batch of hardware, then as per existing rules, when it comes to placing orders for the 2nd production batch, an altogether new tender is issued for procuring the same type of pipes or valves, instead of placing a repeat order from the original vendor. This sounds crazy & illogical, but is very much true & that’s one of the main reasons why SMEs are shy to be part of the military-industrial complex.
To S KUMAR: The operative word is ‘conical’, i.e. the common shape found in vehicles like the ARV Fluxliner & in the temples & stupas of ancient India. What it means is that in ancient times, certain advanced civilizations from within the Milky Way galaxy (according to the Mahabharata there are 400 planets apart from Earth that are capable of supporting human habitation) came to Earth to make the primitive natives ‘civilised’ by altering their DNA (close to 70 specific alterations). The earliest primitive humans belonged to the brown race residing in the continent of Kumari Kandam. And as far written records go, ‘civilised’ human societies were created in two areas: Kumari Kandam, followed by Mesopotamia where the Sumerian civilization existed in an area that includes present-day Iraq, Iran & Azerbaijan. According to Sumerian records, their ‘Gods’, or superhumans from the skies, came on-board massive star-shaped/corss-shaped motherships measuring some 21 miles in length & 17 miles in height, & they were taller than the natives of Earth. On the other hand, the massive ‘vimanas’ coming to Kumari Kandam were conical in shape & therefore the temples & stupas built in Kumari Kandam & later throughout southern & even central India were cone-shaped structures. The ARV Fluxliner too is cone-shaped & what this illustrates is the common principles of anti-gravity propulsion employed by both the Fluxliner & the ancient ‘viomanas’.
To GOPU: The French are not stupid to consume this bait of only 36 Rafales. It was conveyed to France way back in 2005 itself that the entire MMRCA fleet would comprise of Rafales. That pledge now has to be honoured. There’s no going back on one’s word.
To ASHISH: That projection of increased thrust-levels is based on the kind of metallurgical technologies likely to be available in that timeframe. Similarly, the M88 turbofan too has a pre-planned product improvement schedule in place. Kaveri turbofan development has NOT been shelved or terminated. Instead, work on building the first batch of flying prototypes is now in progress. All the earlier Kaveris built were technology demonstrators that required a certain degree of modifications after they were subjected to high-altitude flight-tests in Russia at the Gromov Flight Research Institute outside Moscow in Zhukovsky. The prototype Kaveri turbofans will incorporate components made of ceramics-based composites & these will be subjected to a series of airborne flight-tests on an IL-76MD testbed in Zhukovsky sometime in 2017. If everything goes well, then one such engine will then be installed on an IAF MiG-29 testbed for certification-related flight-tests. Only if these tests are successful will this engine be made available for the AURA UCAV.
To THEHUNDRED: 1) LoLz! It is reasonably safe to assume that after the TSD was de-activated & dissolved, something else has taken its place. AS for the Scorpenes, yes, during their mid-life upgrade, they can indeed be equipped with AIP module.
To ANTHONY: One of the finest Indian historians??? He can’t even speak in an articulated manner, leave alone having articulated views/opinions! For instance, since when have pickpockets resorted to robbing? Only robbers & muggers engage in robbery. Pickpockets & thieves on the other hand engage in stealing & theft. Therefore, there’s a huge difference between robbery & theft. Secondly, this ‘historian’ is evidently unaware of the difference between an empire & civilization. The ‘term’ golden age’ refers to a civilisational state of existence, that is, AFTER empire-building has been successfully accomplished.
As for tolerance/intolerance, what this historian & his ilk within India, as well as the BBC, isn’t able to figure out are the constitutional arrangements & contractual obligations, which mandate that maintenance of law-and-order is a state subject. The federal govt in Delhi only commands & controls the law enforcement machinery of the National Capital Region. So if there’s intolerance or violence of any kind within a particular state (with the exception of Delhi), then those angered or protesting or anguished should seek the active intervention of those state governments under whose rule such acts are taking place. One cannot drag the federal government in to such matters & make it responsible for taking corrective action. Due process has to be adhered to when enforcing the law, instead of resorting to broad brushstrokes for painting everyone & everything black—the kind being done by this nitwit of a historian & the BBC.
A final word on tolerance/intolerance: a Pakistani Nobel laureate like Malala Yusufzai is always welcomed in any corner of India with open arms by everyone. But she dare not step into her country of birth, because she faces mortal danger in every nook-and-corner of her own country.
Sir, can conformal fuel tanks be developed for Tejas ?
It will greatly increase its range !
