The period between
October 2015 and January 2017 saw a bizarre process being played out that has
now come back full circle to the point where it all originally started:
On October 17, 2014
the Indian Army HQ’s Directorate General of Mechanised Forces (DGMF) had issued
a Request for Information (RFI) for the comprehensive upgrade for 2,600 BMP-2
infantry combat vehicles (ICV).
This was followed by
another RFI issued on March
2, 3016 that invited proposals for upgrading
the fire-control system (FCS) of the BMP-2 ICVs.
Then came yet another RFI—issued on March
14, 2016—that invited proposals for upgrading the powerpacks of the BMP-2 ICVs.
On the very same day, another RFI was
issued, calling for proposals for arming the BMP-2 ICVs with new-generation
anti-armour guided-missiles (ATGM).
And finally, on June 23, 2016 came the
final RFI, this concerning the comprehensive upgrade of 1,500 BMP-2 ICVs.
Why were all these RFIs issued in such a
staggered manner and what made the DGMF revert back to square one, i.e.
proposals for the comprehensive upgrade of BMP-2 ICVs being issued twice (in October
2014 and again on June 2016)? Where were the disconnects and why?
(to be concluded)

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 221 of 22113) Will the final Agni-V have a thermonuclear warhead?
14) Will the Army upgrade the Agni TELs to the Russian mobile TEL standard?
15) Which supercomputers are available for nuclear weapons development in India? Is it just the ANUPAM series of supercomputers developed by BARC, or can BARC use C-DAC and CSIR computers? BARC’s ANUPAM series only has approximately 200 TFLOPs of combined processing power, which seems to be grossly insufficient for modern simulations. The Russians and French have several PFLOPs of processing power for military applications.
16) How far away is BARC from validating a thermonuclear warhead family? End of this decade? The end of the next decade?
17) In the recent China-Indian border conference you linked, former NSA Shivshankar Menon raised concerns of Chinese interactions with Bhutan. It is very probable to think that the Chinese could claim that the Bhutanese and certain Northern Nepali indigenous peoples are part of the greater Tibetan ethnicity and therefore these areas need to be part of the PRC, similar to the Chinese claims on Ladakh and Arunachal. This would challenge the idea of Indian hegemony in South Asia, and could be revenge if India successfully regains PoK and ruins CPEC’s connectivity objectives. Another alternative is that China may initiate something similar to the Russian action in South Ossetia, Donbas and Transnistria, where they could informally take control of pockets of Nepal or Bhutan by disguising professional soldiers as revolutionary irregulars native to the land. Such a military action could be used for domestic propaganda to increase internal approval of the PLAF, without input from the CPC. Economic sanctions would only work if the US, Europe, and Japan agreed to them, but this would be harder than Russia or Iran since China contributes a lot to the global economy. What kind of contingency plans can be adopted for Bhutan and Nepal?
18) Since the FICV program is not going to start soon, what is the ideal upgrade for the BMP-2? If the BMP-2 gets a 500hp diesel engine, what sort of protection can be outfitted to the BMP-2? Mobility parameters may be reduced in the end but battle survivability is the larger problem.
19) How is the rest of the world switching over to 7.62mm over 5.56mm? All NATO arms manufacturers seem to be sticking with 5.56mm for service rifles. Only second world and third world nations use 7.76mm battle rifles. Stopping power claims are completely subjective in nature, and the US Army Ballistics Lab has concluded that lethality is the same for both 5.56mm and 7.76mm.
20) What is the action of the Ghataak SLR? Direct impingement, short stroke, or long stroke piston?
21) The Ghataak link GESSLER provided (http://i.imgur.com/unvy8Zg.jpg) indicates that Ghataak uses Russian 7.62x39mm. So he could be right that this another shoddy AK-47 modernization, especially since the INSAS uses the same action as the AK-series.
22) Will Ghataak be effective for automatic fire since most 7.76mm guns are not? Especially considering that Indian jawans are smaller than their NATO counterparts, they will not handle automatic recoil well. I think a better feature to implement is a compact bullpup design.
22) Will the FGFA be a true MRCA that can be used for deep interdiction missions, like the Rafale?
23) The IMRH should be designed for the more challenging 12-tonne NMRH role, say drawing influence from the H225M instead of the Mil-17, and then work backwards to fill IAF/IA requirements for other IMRH variants. Will the Russian turboshaft work reliably in a naval environment, versus the operational Turbomeca Makila or GE T700?
Prasun da can you clarify whether additional f404i IN 20 order have been placed. If not how they are gonna make LCA mk1 after first 18 aircraft. Second thing, what is the plan for the F 414 IN6 which is pilling in Bangalore. Zebra
Dear Prasun,
By your reply above should we assume that he way forward is more Rafales and Tejas MK1A, MK2. Can we get both Jet engine tech and GaN AESA radar both from France?
Pressure is being built up :

With H1B facing restrictions. Expect the F-16/18 to either end or an out right purchase. Which could be cheaper. Expect USA to start to demand more of India. Yes we will help you but you must help us first. Also Indians in USA facing much harder time. Hope things don't become violent.

is it jut a coincidence that Aman 2017 is takin pace at the same time as Tropex 2017
Sir,
Media quoted COAS Rawat as saying Rudra WSI or LCH is junk because Helina ATGM is not in place!
Is it not possible to pursue a different off the shelf ATGM like Spike MR or American TOW as an alternative until HELINA is in place?Or is it too much a bother to substitute Helina ATGM kit for the time being which is not even available! I am not able to make heads or tails regarding the issue.Even if DRDO screwed up on HELINA,is it so grievous to junk LCH/Rudra purchases? Also does it mean Army/Airforce was not at all planning a backup ATGM option if HELINA didnt show up on time?
Hi ,
Iam living here in U.K. For past 11 years , there are some higher concentration of muslims in some areas but council and police were turning a blind eye to radicalisation as they were harping on political correctness a trend started by labour which was in power. But at the end now since brexit happening the govt has found a spine to keep the radicalisation in check , mark my words when Britain becomes independent from EU they will come down on these guys like a ton of bricks.
Me personally iam an Indian Muslim proud at it, was also disgusted like guys like anjum chaudary who bites the hand that feeds them , now the judiciary started to take a tough stance on immigrants like Rochdale pedophile ring , they are gonna deport them .
most of it is just media bullshit prasunda was right unchecked migration and Muslim especially Sunni failing to adapt to U.K. Way of life is the main crux of the problem. Rest assured please don't go on hyperbole about these so called guys like anjem and his lackeys . Funny part is they live on govt benefits , council homes and they bite the hand that feeds them
This is a free country like india , people are allowed to project their
Views and Sadiq khan is not a radical but it shows either a deep rooted fear of Muslims in you. Iam from the south of India where Hindus and muslims are known for their bonhomie and it's up to u and me to maintain it
When Britain becomes free of shackles , it will be tough for muslims especially these bigoted radicals and will see a sporadic spurt in racial incidents but rest assured it will be civil
Prasun Da,
1. Did cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune,Hyderabad become IT, Aerospace, Defense, Finance hubs because for decades the Central Govt invested crores in these regions to develop these industries, something that the Central Govt did not do in other regions?
2. This article claims that Alexander lost several battles in India & therefore returned to Greece. Is this true?

What I am confused is that, homosexuality is prohibited in Islam, but many Muslims have sex boys. In Kerala also, in and around my home town in Calicut, people say if you want to make extra money, go to beach even in 80s. The colloquial name is: kundan adikkal for homosexuality. I heard from my friends who were in law college that a few of their friends used to make extra money like this. 1 hour entertainment will fetch Rs. 5000 to 8000 at that time. Also, I read that many Islamic rulers keep a lot of young boys for pleasure. So if something is harem in Islam, why people are doing this?

There’s little that India can do about the CPEC. But to look at the bright side, a more economically stable Pakistan may be quite good for India, as both countries can then look to de-escalate tensions across the border and talk trade.
The CPEC project promises rich rewards not just to Pakistan and China but to India and other countries in South and Central Asia as well. It is in the economic interest of Islamabad and Beijing to draw India into the project. India’s markets are the big prize that they should be eyeing and work to connect with. This will require them to allay Indian misgivings about the project.

sir
why drdo is wasting time money on BMD project
when everyone knows that without a credible
early warning system interceptor missile is useless
@Vikram, why all this about Alexander and Porous. What has that got to do with India today? You are simply feeding more pride to the neighbours who already feel they are suppier to Indians. Now telling them their ancesters stopped Alexander and others.

hi prasun
the prithvi adv seems to have a IIR seeker and the report says it went to outer space beyond the atmosphere the nose cone ejected and the iir took over. Seems too complicated a scenario for indian drdo . reminds me of a seeker on the arow missile .We got the seeker from them? How did uncle sam allow it ?
the padv looks fat and chubby unlike other missile like thaad ,arrow, patriot etc any explanation for this ungainly design.
do take a lot of Pics in aero 17 . unfortunately i will b e missing it this year.
and i thought Rudra was a helicopter

To DEVOPRIYO: I had already stated before that one must be wary of news-reports emanating from devious/dubious sources. The Rudrastra is the twin-rail launcher for HELINA, as shown in the latest thread.
The way matters are being played out in the US under the Trump Administration, the future looks extremely bleak for Pakistan. For starters, just see how the Pakistani taxpayer continues to be taken for a ride by all kinds of conman’s announcements about various ‘gamechangers’:
