India’s Ministry of Defence on
August 26, 2019 inked a contract worth Rs.380 crore with Chennai-based Data
Patterns (India) Pvt Ltd under which the latter will supply, install and
commission an initial nine X-band Precision Approach Radars (PAR) incorporating
active phased-array scanning antennae at Indian Navy and Indian Air Force Air
Stations.
All installation and commissioning works at the Indian Naval Air Stations is planned for completion by April 2022, and at Indian Air Force Stations by December 2022. Eventually, more than 60 such PARs are due to be ordered by the MoD.

The active phased-array PAR
has been under development by Data Patterns since 2010 and it was only at the
Aero India 2017 expo in Bengaluru that one caught the first glimpse of this
PAR.
The offer by Data Patterns was adjudged as being superior to the one from ASTRA Microwave.

Operational since 1985, Data Patterns has to date developed more than 1,000 systems and sub-systems
in-house, which include ESM sub-systems for various DRDO-developed ELINT/COMINT
suites, as well as for jammers. It has also developed a multi-Bit, wide-band
radar warning receiver, IFF Mk.XII transponder with Mode 5 capabilities, plus an
active phased-array radar in 205MHz frequency (first of its kind in the
world).
It has also developed pulse-Doppler weather radars in X and C bands, as well as an X-band Imaging Monopulse RF seeker for the projected Brahmos-NG supersonic multi-role cruise missile in cooperation by the DRDO’s with Hyderabad DRDL lab.

Dear Prasun,
Who is this author, who is repeating what you mentioned long ago?

Dear Prasun,
Now Pakistan had erected a monument in the memory of 27th February retaliatory attack on Indian army installations. Now in that it is mentioned that F-16 was used to down Su-30MKI and MiG-21. Now what are its implications that Pakistan was lying about? Any restrictions on PAF from USA? Anything else???
Why is Editor Force magazine always critical of our military? He has agenda?
Dear sir,
Can maritime patrol aircrafts like P8I provide mid course update to anti ship missiles. If not what are the methods IN is using for mid course update for their anti ship missile inventory.
To Manivannan Sermaiya: Yes, the P-8Is can provide course-corrections to the AGM-8$ Harpoon ASCMs.
To SANGO: Is it wrong to be critical or expose the inadequacies/deficiencies? Or do you want to see the realities all brushed under the carpet?
To ASD: They are in that case contradicting themselves sibce they themselves have officially stated that no Indian military installation was targetted & what were targetted were just wooded/forest areas near the supposed military installations. And the PAF has so far released vcideo footage of only 1 wooded/forest area being hit. Nor has anyone ever produced any credible evidence of any IAF Su-30MKI being shot down. In fact, the Su-30MKIs at any given point were more than 100km away from the PAF MRCAs & hence no one could shoot down any Su-30NMKI with 70km-range AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs.
To PAVAN: I can only speculate that the writer is over-dramatising the events for the sake of selling his script to Bollywood. In any case, the PAF’s disclosures of September 14 have since contradicted several of his claims, since only 1 wooded/forested area near a Indian military installation at Narian (and not 4) was targetted. For, it is far easier to engage in chest-thumping than undertaking an objective assessment of what went wrong that day. For example, ever since the IAF decommissioned its Dvina V750VK SAMs in the 1980s, the IAF has been without LR-SAMs. Even when it comes to the S-400 LR-SAM, the IAF should have gone for anti-aircraft versions of this LR-SAM back in 2013 itself while ordering the BMD interceptor SAMs at a later date. Had the IAF’s LR-SAMs been operational on February 27, the PAF would not have dared to keep its F-16s orbiting over the Mangla Dam inside PoK. Secondly, why has the IAF delayed the introduction of tactical data-links on its frontline MRCAs? Thirdly, why has the IAF shied away from raising dedicated combat-SAR helicopter squadrons for rescuing downed pilots from within hostile territory?Till today, no one from the IAF or any IAF veteran is willing to take stock of such shortcomings through objective analysis.
To RAZA: Elementary: there’s simply no will or serious intent to develop such engines for either MRCAs or helicopters.
To ASHISH GAUTAM: For the sake of extending the benefit of doubt to Wg Cdr Abhinandan, the following are the possibilities: 1) Abhinandan got separated from his wingman because he was unable to receive the voice instructions from the ground-based GCI controller that was meant to order him to abort his mission & turn back towards Srinagar. 2) The wingman was busy conducting another intercept. 3) Abhinandan did not realise that he had already crossed the LoC into PoK airspace. For, his instructions were to strictly keep within India-controlled airspace. This would not have happened had his aircraft been equipped with a tactical data-link that would have shown him real-time positional data, thereby maintaining positive situational awareness.
To HOODS07: LoLz! Successive GoIs have only been stringing the NSCN(IM) since the latter’s demands just cannot be met. What the NSCN9IM) is demanding is the balkanisation of Manipur & the merger of such areas with Nagaland to create a Greater Nagalim—which no sane-minded individual will ever agree to.
To RAD: LoLz! Any MRCA flying 30,000 feet ASL will be a dead-duck for LR-SAMs. Also, the AIM-120C-5 that took down Wg Cdr Abhinandan’s MiG-21 Bison was fired from a distance of less than 50km. On the other hand, the Sura-1 HMDS/R-73E combination proved to be extremely lethal for the PAF’s F-16s, whose pilots have JHMCS but do not possess the kind of SRAAMs whose IIR seekers can be slaved toward off-boresight targets.
To MOHAN: My views are the same as his, because one doesn’t require military forces to combat terrorists who are armed with only AK-47s & RPG-7s. The CAPFs of India are more than a match for such poorly-armed terrorists. Hence, RR should have been made of human resources emanating from the CAPFs, and not from the IA.
To JOYDEEP GHOSH: 2) Rashid Dostum is an Afghan citizen & has nothing to do with bilateral India-Uzbekistan ties. 4) He was killed within the erstwhile FATA, near Parachinar.
To SUJIT: 1) had answered that in previous threads dealing with EW suites. 2) No. 3) It provides auto-tracking. 5) Without MAWS today any MRCA will be a dead duck when attacked by SRAAMs. 6) Again, read the thread dealing with EW suites.
To PINKAL SHAH: 1) It was done last year itself. 2) No such contract has been inked so far. 3) One will have to wait for MIRVed version of Agni-5 to emerge. 4) DRDO Newsletters are already providing such information. 5) IAC-1 will proceed for sea-trials only in 2012. 6) They will be delivered by 2021. 7) Everything is possible. 8) 1,457. 9) Not yet. 10) Not yet. 11) It is mentioned in the thread dealing with Eurosatory 2018 expo. 12) It is in series-production. 13) Not yet. Not before 2021. 14) Not before 2021. 15) Yes. 16) No updates.
